Deadlock does not yet have a complete official PC specification. Steam currently lists only “Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system”; the operating-system, CPU, graphics and sound-card fields remain marked not yet specified, and the release date is still listed as to be announced. You can still tune the game effectively: use the Telemetry HUD in a crowded team fight, identify whether the GPU or CPU is limiting performance, then adjust upscaling, shadows, particles and frame pacing in that order.

The practical targets below reflect performance guidance updated October 6, 2026 and checked against the October 5, 2026 patch. They are starting points, not Valve specifications or guaranteed benchmarks. Deadlock is still changing, so a patch can alter both performance and the best settings.

What Deadlock officially requires

Valve’s Steam support page currently gives one requirement: a 64-bit processor and operating system. It does not publish an official minimum or recommended CPU, GPU, RAM, storage or sound-card model. Steam shows the detailed fields as not yet specified for both minimum and recommended configurations. The same page lists Deadlock’s release date as to be announced.

That distinction matters because many websites repeat hardware lists as if they were certified requirements. They are not official specifications. A PC that meets an unofficial list may perform poorly in a large fight, while a different system with a stronger CPU or faster storage may feel smoother despite having a less impressive-looking graphics card.

What you can safely assume

  • Your operating system and processor must support 64-bit operation.
  • There is no published Valve target for a particular resolution, frame rate, graphics preset or refresh rate.
  • Performance advice should be verified in the current game build, not treated as permanent. The performance guidance was checked against the October 5, 2026 patch and updated October 6, 2026.

Practical baseline versus official requirement

For a modern Source 2 game running alongside normal desktop applications, 16 GB of RAM is a sensible comfort baseline. An SSD is strongly preferable: hard drives generally produce longer loads and are more prone to in-game hitching. Neither figure is a Valve specification. They are practical recommendations for avoiding avoidable stalls when Discord, a browser or other background software is open.

Can your PC run Deadlock?

Because no complete official requirement exists, answer this by measuring your own system at the resolution and frame rate you actually want. A quiet lane is not a valid stress test; ability effects, multiple heroes and rapidly changing geometry make a team fight substantially heavier.

Use these comparison criteria

  • Target resolution: decide whether you are testing 1080p or 1440p.
  • Sustained fight performance: judge the lowest-feeling moments in a busy fight, not the highest number in an empty area.
  • Limiting component: establish whether the GPU, CPU or game engine is responsible before buying hardware.
  • VRAM headroom: texture quality depends more on available video memory than on average shader speed.
  • Frame-time consistency: even frame delivery usually feels better than a high but erratic FPS counter.
  • Input latency: V-Sync, an unstable frame rate and display mode can change control response.
  • Storage behavior: loading and streaming from an SSD can reduce hitches compared with a hard drive.
  • Total upgrade cost: include compatible memory, power, cooling and storage rather than comparing GPU names alone.

Use case Suggested starting class How to interpret it
Higher-end 1080p or 1440p experimentation GeForce RTX 4070 or Radeon RX 7800 XT class Starting points, not measured FPS results or guarantees.
Mid-range systems GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6600 class Use sensible settings and verify sustained team-fight performance yourself.
Older laptops All-low settings, Quality or Balanced upscaling, and a 60 FPS cap Power, cooling and laptop-specific CPU limits can dominate the result.

Cards with 6 GB or more of VRAM can usually start with Medium or High textures with little expected FPS cost, based on that guidance. That is guidance rather than a controlled benchmark. If textures cause memory pressure, lower them before sacrificing resolution or image clarity everywhere else.

Measure the real bottleneck before changing settings

  1. Open Settings → Game → Telemetry and enable the Telemetry HUD.
  2. Enter a real match and reproduce the slowdown in a lane with several players or during a team fight.
  3. Watch FPS and frame time while the scene is busy. Note whether the problem is a sustained low rate, short spikes or hitching during asset loading.
  4. Change one setting at a time, repeat the same type of fight and compare the result.

Testing in an empty lane can hide the bottleneck. The Telemetry HUD gives you a consistent way to see whether a change improves the moments that actually affect play.

Signs of a GPU limit

If Quality upscaling produces a clear improvement in the same fight, rendering workload is probably the main constraint. Lowering shadows and particles should then help further. Keep the monitor’s native resolution when possible and let the upscaler reduce internal rendering work rather than immediately making the entire interface and distant targets look soft.

Signs of a CPU or engine limit

If switching between native resolution and an upscaler barely changes FPS, the GPU may not be the limiting part. A busy simulation, driver overhead or an engine-side limit can leave the CPU responsible. In that case, buying a faster graphics card will not necessarily solve the drops; prioritize stable frame pacing, background-process cleanup and a cap your processor can sustain.

Settings that usually raise FPS while preserving clarity

Setting Starting value Why and when to change it
Display resolution Monitor native resolution Preserves interface and target clarity. Reduce it only after trying an upscaler or when the GPU remains saturated.
FSR Quality Available for any GPU. Try Balanced only if Quality is insufficient; avoid Performance unless necessary because distant targets become harder to read.
DLSS Quality Use on supported NVIDIA RTX hardware. Move to Balanced only when the GPU is still the limit.
Shadows Low or Medium Shadows are expensive and visually noisy during fights; this is one of the safer reductions.
Particles or effects Low or Medium Ability and spirit effects can be a major team-fight cost.
Ambient occlusion Off Removes a relatively costly effect with limited competitive value.
Anti-aliasing Low Reduces overhead while retaining more detail than a large resolution drop.
Textures As high as VRAM allows 6 GB-or-more cards can often begin at Medium or High; reduce this if memory pressure or hitching appears.
V-Sync Off Reduces added latency. If tearing is distracting, use a cap a few frames below the monitor’s refresh rate.
FPS limit A level the PC holds consistently A stable cap is preferable to a fluctuating peak. A 60 FPS cap is a practical starting point for older laptops.
Display mode Exclusive fullscreen when practical Can provide the lowest latency; use the mode that behaves reliably on your system.
NVIDIA Reflex On, if available Use it when the option appears in the game’s settings.

A repeatable setup procedure

  1. Record a baseline. With Telemetry enabled, play the same kind of busy encounter for several minutes at native resolution. Note the typical FPS, the worst-feeling dips and whether frame time spikes coincide with effects or loading.
  2. Choose the upscaler first. On any GPU, set FSR to Quality. On a supported RTX card, use DLSS Quality. Compare the same fight before lowering resolution.
  3. Reduce shadows. Set shadows to Low, then Medium if Low looks unnecessarily harsh. Keep whichever gives stable frame times without obscuring gameplay.
  4. Reduce effects. Set particles or effects to Low or Medium. Re-test during an ability-heavy fight rather than in the spawn area.
  5. Disable ambient occlusion and set anti-aliasing to Low. These changes are usually less damaging to readability than a large resolution reduction.
  6. Adjust textures only for memory pressure. Keep them high enough for clear surfaces if your VRAM permits; lower them when the game hitches or reports memory-related problems.
  7. Turn V-Sync off and set a sustainable cap. If tearing appears, cap FPS a few frames below the display refresh rate instead of allowing large swings.
  8. Use exclusive fullscreen and enable Reflex where offered. These are latency-oriented choices, so keep the alternative if it causes instability on your setup.
  9. Apply system-side fixes. Update the graphics driver, close browsers and overlays, select Windows High Performance on a plugged-in laptop, and verify Steam files after a crash or major patch.

Fix stutter and sudden FPS drops

When the game hitches while loading or moving through the map

Move the installation to an SSD if it is on a hard drive. Confirm that the drive has free space and is not saturated by another download or background task. An SSD will not cure a CPU limit, but it addresses a common source of long loads and streaming hitches.

When drops happen only in team fights

Reproduce the issue with Telemetry active, then lower particles and shadows before touching native resolution. If Quality upscaling helps, continue tuning the GPU-heavy options. If it does not, investigate CPU load, background programs and frame-time consistency rather than assuming the graphics card is too slow.

When performance degrades after a patch

Deadlock is still changing. Restart the game, update the GPU driver if appropriate and use Steam’s file-verification command after crashes or patch-related corruption. Re-test your saved settings in a real match; a setting that worked before an update may no longer be optimal.

When a laptop runs well briefly and then slows

Plug it into AC power, select Windows High Performance and check temperatures and fan behavior. Thermal or power limits can reduce sustained performance even when the initial FPS looks good. Keep the 60 FPS cap or another level the laptop can hold continuously.

When overlays or browsers cause irregular frame times

Close browsers, recording tools and game overlays one at a time to identify conflicts. Do not change several settings simultaneously: isolating one process or option makes the cause easier to confirm.

Choosing an upgrade without wasting money

Observed result Likely next step Why
Quality upscaling gives a substantial FPS gain Consider a GPU with more rendering performance and adequate VRAM The GPU is likely limiting; verify the improvement in team fights first.
Upscaling barely changes FPS Investigate CPU performance, thermals, background software and engine limits A faster GPU may leave the actual bottleneck untouched.
Hitches coincide with loading or streaming Move the game to an SSD and ensure adequate free space Storage latency can produce stalls independent of average GPU speed.
System swaps or closes background apps Move toward 16 GB RAM or more, subject to platform compatibility 16 GB is a comfortable baseline for the game alongside Discord and a browser, not an official requirement.
Textures trigger memory pressure Use a GPU with more VRAM or lower texture quality VRAM capacity determines how safely you can retain higher textures.

Check motherboard, power-supply, cooling, memory type and laptop upgrade limits before purchasing. No upgrade should be sold as a guaranteed FPS increase without a controlled comparison at your target resolution and in the same type of fight.

Keep results consistent as Deadlock changes

Save a short test routine: the same resolution, upscaler mode, Telemetry layout and type of team fight. After a major patch or driver update, run that routine again before judging a new setting or hardware change. Record sustained FPS and frame-time behavior, not a single peak number. This approach respects the current evidence: Valve has not published complete requirements, and the game’s performance profile can change while development continues.
