Deadline Guardian is a student-built, RAG-based study assistant designed to help students search and organize their own course materials during exam preparation. Its creator, Masham, says it can answer questions with citations to uploaded files and pages, make high-yield cheat sheets, and build an hour-by-hour plan for upcoming deadlines. Those are the creator’s descriptions, not independently verified performance results.
Why Deadline Guardian was built
Masham describes building the project after he and a college friend faced a familiar exam crunch: slides, notes, scanned PDFs, past-year papers, and syllabi to review with only a few hours available. Deadline Guardian is intended to make that material easier to search, summarize, and prioritize.
The project was presented as a RAG-based entry for the DEV Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge. In retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), a system retrieves relevant passages from a collection of documents to ground a generated answer. The project description says answers can include inline citations identifying the uploaded file and page, but does not establish how consistently those citations work or how accurate the answers are.

What the creator says it can do
- Answer questions about uploaded material: Responses are described as grounded in the uploaded files, with inline file and page citations.
- Create high-yield cheat sheets: The app is intended to condense course materials into revision notes.
- Make a deadline plan: A “panic plan” is described as ranking topics by priority and laying out an hour-by-hour timetable.
- Handle different study formats: The post lists digital PDFs, PPT and PPTX presentations, text, Markdown, and photos of handwritten pages or diagrams.
- Display technical content: The creator says the app supports LaTeX math and formatted code.
These are feature descriptions in the creator’s post, not independently tested findings. The post does not establish answer quality, OCR accuracy for handwriting, or how well the prioritization works across different courses and documents.

The post alone does not provide enough information to assess those terms.
How to assess the project’s fit
Based on the creator’s description, Deadline Guardian is aimed at students who want one interface for asking questions across a set of revision materials and turning that material into a prioritized study plan. Before relying on it for exam preparation, check whether the demo is available, whether the formats you need work, and whether answers cite the right passages in your own files. Treat generated explanations and schedules as aids to review, not as substitutes for checking the source material.
