Deadhand Theater is not released yet. Its Steam listing gives a release date of “To be announced,” shows a Join the Deadhand Theater Playtest request, and does not confirm a generally available demo download. Steam Deck Compatibility is currently Unknown, so there is no official basis for calling it Verified, Playable, or Unsupported.
The live Windows requirements list Windows 10, an Intel Core i3 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 1060, and 1 GB of storage at minimum. The recommended configuration raises the processor to an Intel Core i5 and the graphics card to an RTX 2060 while retaining 8 GB of RAM and 1 GB of storage. These figures are store metadata rather than measured performance results, and they can change before launch.
Is the Deadhand Theater demo available on Steam?
Not as a confirmed public download in the current listing. Steam describes the title as unavailable and gives its release date as “To be announced.” The page does expose a playtest-access request, which is different from publishing an open demo that anyone can download.

A playtest is normally a separate branch or entitlement controlled by the developer. Requesting access places your account in consideration; it does not guarantee an invitation, a download, or access to the final game. Until the store page adds a public demo button or the developer announces an openly downloadable build, treat the playtest request as the only listed way to seek early access.

How to request the listed playtest
- Open the Deadhand Theater store listing in Steam while signed in.
- Find the section labeled Join the Deadhand Theater Playtest.
- Use the request control shown there and confirm the request for your account.
- Check your Steam library and account notifications later; access, if granted, will be delivered through Steam rather than through an unofficial download.
The presence of this control should not be read as proof that the playtest is active for every region or that it contains the same build that will ship. Steam can show a request page while participation remains limited or invitations have not yet been sent.
Current Windows system requirements
The current specification shown on the listing is compact but gives a clear target for Windows PCs. Both tiers call for Windows 10, 8 GB of memory, and 1 GB of available storage. The principal difference is processor and graphics performance.

Steam does not identify the processor generation, clock speed, graphics-memory requirement, DirectX feature level, or whether the storage figure includes patches and save data. “Core i3” and “Core i5” therefore describe broad processor classes, not one exact model. A newer low-power chip and an older desktop chip can perform differently even when both carry the same family name.

The minimum tier is the developer’s stated floor for launching the Windows build, not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution, loading time, or visual preset. A PC with a GTX 1060 and an unspecified Core i3 may be able to start the game, but the listing supplies no test conditions that would let anyone predict performance at a chosen resolution.

What the recommended tier tells you
The recommended tier pairs an Intel Core i5 with an RTX 2060. It is the safer target if you want more headroom for effects, background applications, or later content, but it still does not establish a benchmark. The equal 8 GB memory and 1 GB storage figures in both columns mean the store page is not presenting a larger install footprint or RAM target for the recommended experience.
Why older requirement figures may appear elsewhere
An earlier crawl of the same Steam listing recorded 4 GB as minimum RAM, 2 GB of storage, and 8 GB as recommended RAM. Those values are a historical snapshot, not the current specification. Store metadata can be revised as a build changes, and cached requirement panels can remain visible in search results or old articles.

Before installing any future demo or playtest, open the live Steam requirements panel and compare it with your machine. Give the live panel priority over screenshots, cached pages, and older guides. A change in RAM or storage can reflect a new build rather than an error.
What “Steam Deck Compatibility: Unknown” means
Steam’s official badge currently says Unknown. Valve has not supplied a current Verified, Playable, or Unsupported classification for the listing. Unknown is an absence of an evaluation, not a prediction that the game will fail.

Because no badge decision is published, there is no authoritative claim about frame rate, battery behavior, text legibility, launcher behavior, suspend and resume, or which Proton configuration should be selected. Windows requirements alone cannot answer those questions: the Deck uses a Linux-based operating system and compatibility layers, and the interaction between a particular build and those layers must be tested.
Details that are useful but inconclusive
The store description identifies Deadhand Theater as a single-player, turn-based roguelike deckbuilder. It also lists a mouse-only option. Turn-based play may reduce the importance of very high frame rates, but that is an inference about the design, not a performance measurement. A mouse-only option does not prove that menus, card selection, or text work correctly with the Deck’s controls.
Likewise, the absence of a controller-support statement should not be converted into a claim that controllers do not work. It simply leaves input behavior unconfirmed until a Deck-tested build or an explicit developer statement is available.
How to judge your PC against the published requirements
Use the table as a checklist rather than as a benchmark. On Windows, verify that your operating system is Windows 10 or later, identify the exact processor model instead of only its Core family, and check the installed graphics card. The GTX 1060 is the stated minimum class; the RTX 2060 is the recommended class.

What Deadhand Theater’s design implies for hardware questions
The game is presented as a dark, turn-based roguelike deckbuilder in which poker hands function as weapons. Progression involves collecting and upgrading talismans, altering decks with cards and sigils, sacrificing body parts for tactical effects, and dealing with hexes and stage modifiers.
Those mechanics explain why a mouse-oriented interface may be listed: card arrangement, talisman management, and selecting effects can be menu-heavy. They do not establish how readable the interface is on a 1280×800 Deck display, whether every action has a button binding, or how much GPU load the stage effects create. Treat the genre description as context for the likely interaction model, not as evidence of compatibility.
What to check if a public demo or playtest build appears
Use a fresh check when the build becomes available, because each item can change independently of the game’s release date.

- Confirm the build type. Identify whether Steam labels it a public demo, an invited playtest, or the main app. Access rules and update behavior differ.
- Read the current requirements again. Record the date you checked and compare the live values with the table above. Do not rely on the older 4 GB RAM or 2 GB storage figures.
- Check the Deck badge. Look for a new Verified, Playable, or Unsupported result. If it still says Unknown, compatibility remains unclassified.
- Inspect input information. Look for explicit controller support and test every essential action, including card selection, deck management, confirmation prompts, and text entry.
- Check display behavior. Confirm that text, tooltips, and card details can be read at the Deck’s native resolution without relying on an external monitor.
- Measure your own session. If you test on a Deck, note the game version, graphics preset, frame-rate cap, battery state, and whether the session was docked or handheld. A single result applies to that build and configuration, not to every future update.
Do not install unofficial files that claim to be a leaked demo. The Steam page is the authoritative place for entitlement and updates, and an unverified download cannot establish official Deck support.
Common misunderstandings and practical answers
“The game is turn-based, so it must run well on Deck.”
Turn-based pacing can make occasional frame-time dips less disruptive, but it does not test graphics drivers, input mapping, text scaling, or startup behavior. The official status remains Unknown until Valve or a reliable build-specific test provides evidence.
“My PC has 8 GB of RAM, so it meets the recommended specification.”
Memory is only one row in the table. Recommended hardware also names an Intel Core i5 and RTX 2060, and the listing does not define which generations qualify. Check the processor and graphics card separately.

The 1 GB figure is the current available-storage entry. It does not state the size of future patches, shader caches, temporary files, or other Steam data. Leave free capacity beyond the number shown.
“The playtest request is the demo.”
A request is an application for access, not a public download. Steam may grant access later, keep the test limited, or change the arrangement before release.
