DayZ launch parameters are command-line switches passed to DayZServer_x64.exe when the dedicated server starts. The essential Windows pattern is DayZServer_x64.exe -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -profiles=profiles -dologs -adminlog -netlog -freezecheck. Add -mod for client-visible modifications, -serverMod for server-only code, and optional switches such as -mission, -BEpath, -cpuCount, -limitFPS, and -storage only when your layout or operating requirements call for them.
What DayZ launch parameters control
A launch parameter is an option read by the dedicated executable before the server finishes starting. Parameters select the configuration file, listening port, profile and log location, mission, mod sets, BattlEye path, storage root, logging level, and a few process-tuning behaviors. They are separate from the settings inside serverDZ.cfg: the configuration file describes server identity, gameplay, security, persistence, and mission settings, while the command line tells the process which file and folders to use and which optional subsystems to load.

Editing a configuration file cannot substitute for a missing -config, -profiles, or mod switch.
A reliable Windows baseline
For a straightforward installation, start with this command:

DayZServer_x64.exe -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -profiles=profiles -dologs -adminlog -netlog -freezecheckThis uses serverDZ.cfg, listens on the documented example game port 2302, writes profile-related output under a folder named profiles, enables general server logging, records administrator actions and network events, and enables the five-minute freeze safeguard. The main game port is not the only network resource involved; the setup guidance notes that adjacent ports are also used by the server, so a firewall or hosted-service rule must account for the complete port arrangement required by your deployment.
Use an absolute path when the launch context has a different working directory from the server files. For example, a service may start from a system directory rather than the folder containing DayZServer_x64.exe; in that case, relative paths such as serverDZ.cfg and profiles can resolve somewhere unexpected.

How to build the command step by step
- Locate the executable. Confirm the file is named
DayZServer_x64.exeand decide whether the launcher will run from that directory or use absolute paths. - Select the configuration. Add
-config=serverDZ.cfg, replacing the value with the actual relative or absolute path. If the path is wrong, the server will not load the settings you edited. - Assign a port. Add
-port=2302for the documented example, or the port allocated to this instance. Configure the host firewall and network forwarding for the full set of ports the server requires. - Choose a profile directory. Add
-profiles=profilesor an absolute writable folder. Keep this directory persistent if you need logs, crash dumps, BattlEye files, BEC files, or RCON-related files after a restart. - Turn on useful diagnostics. Add
-dologs -adminlog -netlog. The spelling shown in the baseline is accepted as the corresponding logging switches; keep the names together so an operator can see the intended observability settings. - Protect against a hung process. Add
-freezecheckwhen an unattended instance should stop and produce a dump after a freeze longer than five minutes. - Add the mission or paths only when needed. Use
-mission=<path>,-BEpath=<path>, or-storage=<path>for a deliberate non-default layout rather than adding them speculatively. - Add performance controls last. If you have a reason to tune processing, append
-cpuCount=<n>without exceeding available logical cores and/or-limitFPS=<n>without exceeding the documented maximum of 200.
-mod versus -serverMod
The distinction is about who must have the files. -mod loads client-visible content. Clients generally need matching content before they can join, so the paths in this switch represent the public mod set. -serverMod loads server-side-only content and does not broadcast those mods to clients.

Both switches accept semicolon-separated paths. A command with two client-visible mods therefore follows this form:
-mod=@ModA;@ModBA server-only set follows this form:
-serverMod=@ServerLogicDependency order matters. Put a shared library or framework before the content mod that depends on it. Apply the same ordering discipline to server-only dependencies. A syntactically correct list can still fail during startup if a required dependency appears later than the module that uses it.
Do not assume a mod list belongs in serverDZ.cfg. The consolidated reference places mod selection on the command line when the mod documentation expects -mod= or -serverMod=; keep those responsibilities separate.

What belongs in serverDZ.cfg
serverDZ.cfg is the server’s settings document for identity, gameplay rules, security, persistence, and mission-related configuration. Launch parameters are process-level controls: they select that file, choose the listening port, redirect profiles or storage, select BattlEye’s path, enable logs, and load code or content.
This boundary makes troubleshooting more predictable. If the server starts with the wrong name or gameplay values, inspect -config and the file it points to. If logs are missing, inspect -profiles and write permissions. If clients report missing content, inspect -mod, dependency order, and the client installation rather than adding unrelated entries to serverDZ.cfg.
Logging, profiles, BattlEye, and storage layout
The profile path is more than a log destination. It is the location associated with logs, crash dumps, and related BattlEye, BEC, and RCON files. On a local installation, a simple profiles folder beside the executable is easy to understand. On a hosted or service-managed installation, use a persistent path that the service account can write to and that the provider includes in backups.

-BEpath is independent of -profiles: it selects a custom BattlEye file path, while -profiles identifies the broader profile and diagnostic directory. Likewise, -storage defines a custom storage root; it does not replace the configuration-file selector. Keeping these paths explicit prevents logs, security files, and persistent data from being scattered across an unknown working directory.
Enable -doLogs, -adminLog, and -netLog intentionally. General RPT output, administrative actions, and network events answer different operational questions. Retain enough disk space for the resulting files and rotate or archive them according to your operating practice.
Vanilla, modded, local, and hosted command patterns

Troubleshooting launch failures
The server starts with old or unexpected settings
Check the value after -config=, then verify that the file exists at that exact path and is the file you edited. A service’s working directory can make a relative filename point somewhere different from the installation directory. Use an absolute path when in doubt.

Logs or crash dumps are missing
Verify -profiles= points to the directory you are inspecting and that the account running the process can write there. If you enabled logging but see no output, first resolve the path and permission issue before adding more switches.
Clients cannot join a modded server
Confirm that client-visible content is listed under -mod, not only under -serverMod. Check semicolon separators, exact folder names, client installation, and dependency order. A server-only mod should remain under -serverMod because it is not broadcast to clients.
BattlEye or related administration files appear in the wrong folder
Inspect both -profiles and -BEpath. The first controls the profile directory used for logs and related files; the second overrides BattlEye’s file path. Make both paths explicit if your deployment separates them.
The process consumes more CPU than expected
Review whether -limitFPS is absent or set too high for the workload, and whether -cpuCount exceeds the logical cores available. The official guidance is not to set the CPU count above available cores, and the documented FPS maximum is 200.
The server appears frozen
With -freezeCheck enabled, a freeze longer than five minutes causes the server to stop and create a dump. Preserve that dump and the surrounding profile logs before restarting so the failure can be investigated rather than silently discarded.
