Livonia is about 163 km², making it smaller than Chernarus (usually quoted at roughly 225–230 km²), but its forests, rivers, hills, and indirect roads make it feel less compact in play. Loot is tiered, yet published tier boundaries disagree; use a current interactive map rather than treating any static chart as definitive. The main underground destination is the Dambog Bunker in the far southwest. Its primary entrance needs a degrading Punched Card, its three floors rise from tier 1 to tier 3 military loot, and a complete run normally requires at least two players.
Livonia at a glance
| Question | Practical answer |
|---|---|
| How large is Livonia? | About 163 km², a figure attributed to the DLC description as quoted by the DayZ Fandom wiki. It is not a measured area published by Bohemia Interactive. |
| How does it compare with Chernarus? | Chernarus is commonly described as about 225 km², with some community sources using 230 km². Livonia is therefore the smaller map by area. |
| Why can Livonia feel larger? | Dense woodland, winding rivers, elevation changes, and fewer obvious straight-line sightlines slow travel and make route choice more important than the raw area suggests. |
| Where is the best surface military loot? | Swarog is described as the largest surface military installation; Lukow Airfield offers hangars, guardhouses, and exposed approaches. Radunin is a contaminated zone that requires complete NBC protection to loot safely. |
| What opens the Dambog Bunker? | The main entrance uses a Punched Card. Cards are scarce, and each swipe consumes durability. |
| Can a solo player clear Dambog? | Entry and looting can be attempted alone, but the bunker’s alternate outside opening and a full, safe loot run generally require at least two people. |

The published area figure
The number most often used for Livonia is approximately 163 km². That value comes from the DLC description as quoted on the DayZ Fandom wiki; the year of that quotation is not recorded. Treat it as a description-level figure, not as the result of a modern, independently published survey.

For context, community guides commonly put Chernarus at about 225 km², while some state 230 km². Even allowing for that small difference between sources, Livonia is materially smaller on paper. The comparison is useful for broad planning, but it does not tell you how long a particular trip will take.
Why there is no reliable width-by-height answer
Bohemia Interactive has not published an official Livonia width and height in the material available for this guide. A DayZ forum discussion found no official answer; one user estimated roughly 12,800 by 12,800 world units, while Chernarus is listed at 15,360 by 15,360. That estimate is not an official map specification and should not be converted into a definitive kilometre measurement.
#1 Best Overall
- Use any means necessary to survive a hostile open world for as long as possible.
- explore the authentic open world of chernarus, featuring 230 square kilometres of hand-crafted terrain based on real-life locations.
- become immersed in a tense, emotional experience driven by the emergent interactions of 60 players on a single server, each one fighting for survival.
- experience a wide variety of complex survival mechanics, from hunting and crafting, through to sophisticated injury simulation and transferable diseases.
- survive against environmental dangers, including the infected, dynamic weather, and animal predators
The official printed Livonia map gives a scale and sheet dimensions, but those details do not themselves state the playable area. In other words, “163 km²” is the defensible headline; a precise north–south or east–west kilometre figure is not established.
What the size means in a real session
- Shorter does not always mean faster. A direct-looking line can be blocked by a river, ravine, steep slope, forest, or a settlement that forces a detour.
- Visibility is inconsistent. Forest and rolling terrain break long sightlines, so navigation often depends on roads, power lines, rivers, and distinctive ridges rather than seeing the destination.
- Route risk matters as much as distance. A longer road approach may be safer than crossing open ground near a military site, while a “short cut” can expose you to more angles.
- Keep a reserve for extraction. A bunker or contaminated-zone trip is not complete when you find the loot; you still need time and supplies to leave by a different route if another group is nearby.
Understanding Livonia’s loot tiers
Why guides disagree
There is no single, stable community chart that all current guides use. One published layout places Lukow Airfield and Bielawa in Tier 1; Radunin, Borek, and Krsnik in Tier 2; and Swarog plus the Dambog Bunker in Tier 3. That same guide separates military and industrial locations into a “Unique” category rather than treating them as an ordinary geographic tier.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Another guide describes tiers primarily by distance from the coast and by danger, with the northern military zones treated as Tier 4. Those systems are not interchangeable: one groups named locations, while the other describes a progression through the map. A route planned from one chart can therefore send you to a place that a different chart labels differently.
What is more dependable for a current build
Interactive loot maps such as WOBO’s map tools and DZPage reportedly derive their loot information from the game’s mission files. That approach is generally more useful for a current server build than a static article, although an update, server configuration, or map-data delay can still make a map stale.
- Open an interactive map that identifies its current data or mission-file basis.
- Select Livonia and the categories you actually need: food, medical items, civilian weapons, military weapons, ammunition, or NBC equipment.
- Check the date or version information shown by the map, if available.
- Compare the location with the server’s rules. Community or modded servers can change loot tables independently of the official configuration.
- Plan an exit and a fallback stop instead of routing only to the highest-labelled tier.
How to read a tier without overpromising
A tier is a probability band, not a guarantee that a particular rifle, magazine, or optic will spawn. Server population, previous players, persistence settings, and random loot rolls all affect what you find. Use tiers to decide where to search first, then verify the actual item pool and current build before committing to a long trip.
Livonia locations that shape a loot route
Swarog Military Base
Swarog is described as Livonia’s largest surface military installation. Its size makes it attractive for a serious military upgrade, but it also creates more buildings, approaches, and potential firing positions to clear. Treat the perimeter, nearby tree lines, and withdrawal route as part of the objective rather than sprinting straight to the first barracks.
Radunin contaminated zone
Radunin is a contaminated area. The assault rifles and night-vision equipment associated with it are not ordinary “walk in and search” loot: you need complete NBC protection to enter and loot it safely. A partial suit is not a substitute for a full, serviceable set, and a mask without working filters does not make the zone safe.
Before travelling, check every NBC component, carry replacement filters where possible, and leave enough time to decontaminate or reach safety. If your equipment is incomplete, use Radunin as a future target rather than gambling a geared character on a short visit.
Lukow Airfield
Lukow has military hangars, guardhouses, and open sightlines. The open ground can make movement and observation easier for both you and other players. Approach from cover, pause to listen, and avoid assuming that an apparently empty hangar has not already been watched from a nearby treeline.
Dambog Bunker: location and access
Where it is
Dambog is a small hilltop compound in Livonia’s far southwest. The bunker entrances are inside that compound. Its isolated position is part of the challenge: the trip consumes supplies, and the hill can become a predictable destination for players who have already collected a card.

The Punched Card
The main bunker door has a card reader and requires a Punched Card. Cards are scarce; community guides commonly associate them with convoy zombies. Do not assume that every convoy or every infected group will provide one, and do not plan a run around a drop you have not actually secured.
Each swipe degrades the card. A pristine or worn card can support multiple uses, while a badly damaged card may be ruined after a single use, according to a Steam player report. Inspect the card before travelling, keep it protected in your inventory, and avoid repeated test swipes. Because durability behaviour has changed in community descriptions over time, verify it on the build and server you play.
Two entrances, different requirements
| Entrance | What it requires | Operational implication |
|---|---|---|
| Main bunker door | A Punched Card for the reader | The dependable card-gated route; card condition determines how many uses remain. |
| Smaller metal door beneath the military control tower | At least two people to open it from outside | Useful for a coordinated group, but not a solo workaround. |
The alternate control-tower entrance is not simply a second door that bypasses all preparation. Its outside opening requirement means a solo player cannot rely on it as an emergency entry method.
Can you get out without the card?
Yes, according to a Steam discussion: a lever on the main door can be used to leave without another card swipe. Locate and use the lever rather than assuming the entrance reader works in both directions. Test the door’s state before you commit to a deep loot run, especially if your group has split up.

| Floor | Reported loot tier | How to use that information |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Tier 1 military loot | Search methodically and preserve supplies; the first level is not the reported peak of the bunker. |
| Level 2 | Tier 2 military loot | Expect a stronger reward profile and greater value in controlling your route back out. |
| Level 3 | Tier 3 military loot | The highest reported floor tier; weapon caches after Puzzle 2 are described as the best targets. |
The weapon-cache claim comes from guides covering DayZ versions 1.19 through 1.23. Puzzle layouts, triggers, card behaviour, and loot placement may not match the current build, so use those details as a historical route outline rather than a guaranteed solution.
How to plan a Dambog run
Before leaving for the compound
- Confirm the objective. Decide whether you are entering for exploration, military weapons, ammunition, or the level-three caches. A focused objective limits the time you spend underground.
- Check the card. Record its condition and agree who carries it. A badly damaged card is a poor basis for a multi-floor attempt.
- Bring a partner. Full looting generally needs at least two people, and the control-tower entrance requires two people from outside.
- Carry light, useful supplies. Medical items, food, water, ammunition, a light source, and enough inventory space matter more than bringing every spare item you own.
- Choose a withdrawal route. Mark a rally point away from the entrance so one player can watch the approach while the other manages doors and inventory.
- Check the build. Puzzle and loot details sourced from version 1.19–1.23 guides are not proof of current behaviour.
Entry procedure
- Approach the hilltop compound slowly and observe the surrounding tree line, buildings, and likely approach roads.
- Clear or avoid immediate threats before standing at the door. The card-reader interaction leaves you exposed.
- At the main entrance, use the Punched Card once. Watch for the door response before attempting another interaction; unnecessary swipes consume durability.
- Once inside, establish who is watching the entrance, who is searching, and where you will regroup if contact occurs.
- Move through the levels deliberately. Keep the route back in mind and do not block a doorway with dropped gear.
- For a two-person group using the control-tower door, coordinate the outside opening with the player positioned inside or at the intended access point; do not separate without agreeing on a fallback.
Searching the floors
Start with a quick security sweep, then search containers in a consistent direction so you do not repeatedly cross the same corridor. Keep high-value items together and discard low-value clutter before reaching the deepest floor. If the objective is the reported level-three weapon caches after Puzzle 2, reserve inventory space and ammunition for the possibility that the cache is present but contested.
Do not treat a cleared room as permanently safe. Another player can enter behind you, and gunfire or door movement can reveal your position. One teammate should periodically listen toward the route you used, particularly while the other is reading a puzzle or managing a full inventory.
Leaving safely
- Regroup before opening the final door or climbing out. Confirm that both players have their intended weapons, medical items, and the card if it remains useful.
- Use the main-door lever to exit without spending another card swipe, as described in the Steam thread.
- Pause outside cover and scan the compound perimeter before sorting loot in the open.
- Take the preselected withdrawal route, but switch to the fallback if you hear shots, see fresh movement, or find the route watched.
Solo, duo, and larger-group decisions
| Group size | Advantages | Limitations | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | Quiet movement, no need to divide loot, simple decisions. | No outside opening of the alternate door; one person must search, watch, solve, and carry everything. | A cautious reconnaissance or a limited main-door visit when you already have the card and a clear exit. |
| Two players | Meets the stated outside requirement for the control-tower door; one can cover while the other searches. | More noise and a larger shared supply burden. | The normal choice for a complete bunker run. |
| Three or more | Better perimeter coverage, carrying capacity, and ability to recover a downed teammate. | Greater chance of detection, communication errors, and disputes over scarce loot. | High-risk, high-value attempts when the group has a clear role plan. |
Common Dambog problems and fixes
The card will not open the door
- Check that you are at the main card-reader entrance, not the smaller control-tower door.
- Inspect the card’s condition. A heavily damaged card may be ruined after one use.
- Make sure the server has not changed bunker access or item behaviour.
- If the door is already open, do not swipe again just to test it.
You are alone at the alternate entrance
The outside opening is reported to require at least two people. Return with a partner or use the card-gated main door; do not assume a solo player can force the control-tower route.
You cannot find a way out
Look for the lever on the main door. The reported exit method does not require another card swipe, so searching for a second card should not be your first response.

The puzzle does not match a video or guide
Many detailed bunker references cover DayZ 1.19–1.23. Updates can alter puzzle steps, interactable objects, or loot locations. Confirm the game version and server configuration, then follow the current in-game interactions rather than forcing an old sequence.
The bunker appears empty
Tier labels describe expected loot categories, not guaranteed items. Another player may have searched it, persistence may have changed the spawn state, or randomisation may simply have produced a poor result. Leave with the information and supplies you can safely carry instead of extending exposure in search of a guaranteed weapon.
A practical Livonia route framework
Use the following decision order when building a route from a spawn or safehouse:
- Stabilise first. Secure food, water, basic medical supplies, and a serviceable weapon before crossing the map for military loot.
- Choose the risk band. Civilian and lower-tier stops are appropriate when under-equipped; military installations and contaminated zones require a stronger loadout and a planned exit.
- Verify the tier map. Check a current interactive map because static guides disagree about the boundaries and even the number of tiers.
- Match the target to equipment. Radunin requires full NBC protection; Dambog requires a Punched Card for the main door; neither should be a casual detour.
- Prefer connected objectives. Link nearby food, medical, and ammunition stops so a failed high-risk visit does not leave you stranded.
- Build in an exit. For Dambog, decide in advance whether the group will leave through the main door and where it will regroup outside.
What is confirmed, and what can change
The broad map comparison is stable enough for planning: Livonia is described as about 163 km² and smaller than Chernarus. The exact dimensions are not officially established. The existence and general layout of the Dambog access points are documented by community sources, but card durability, puzzle steps, and loot placement are version-sensitive. Loot-tier boundaries are the least settled part of the guide material, because reputable community descriptions use different classification systems.
For a current session, verify three things immediately before you travel: the interactive map’s data date, your server’s configuration, and the condition of the card or NBC equipment your route depends on. That small check prevents the most expensive planning mistakes without pretending that a 2026 guide can freeze a live-service game’s mechanics.
