To remove your dating profile, use each service’s account-deletion controls; uninstalling its app is not enough. Before you delete, save anything you need, check subscriptions separately, and understand that a closed account may still have limited data retained for a stated safety, legal, or other legitimate purpose.
This guide covers current English-language instructions for Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Match, and eharmony, based on their public help pages and policies as of October 7, 2026. It is not an exhaustive list of dating services, and menus or rules may vary by country and change over time.
Before you delete: prepare each account
- Make an inventory. List every dating service you have used, including services you no longer have installed. Deleting an app or remaining inactive does not necessarily close the account.
- Save information you want to keep. Request or download a data copy where available, and save conversations or records you may need. Hinge’s in-app Download My Data feature is unavailable after account closure. Bumble says data may no longer be retrievable if a profile has been deleted for more than 28 days.
- Check billing separately. Identify whether each subscription is billed by the dating service, Apple, Google Play, or another provider. Cancel through the relevant billing provider rather than assuming account deletion ends recurring charges.
- Use deletion, not hiding or pausing. Some services offer temporary deactivation or profile hiding, which can leave the account available to reopen. Choose the permanent deletion option if your goal is account closure.
Where to delete each dating account
| Service | Deletion route | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Tinder | In the app or at Tinder.com: open your profile, go to Settings, scroll down, and choose Delete Account. Tinder also offers a Manage My Account deletion tool. | Its Help Center describes a 90-day safety-retention delay before profile data is purged; its privacy policy describes a three-month safety-retention window. Account deletion does not cancel an active subscription. |
| Bumble | In the app: open your profile, tap Settings, scroll to Delete account, choose a reason, and confirm. On Bumble.com: open the profile menu, go to Settings, and choose Delete account. | Some subscriptions may not cancel automatically. Bumble says support can reactivate a deleted profile if contacted within 28 days; its data-request guidance says data may not be retrievable after a profile has been deleted for more than 28 days. |
| Hinge | In the app: tap the Photo Icon, open Account Settings with the Gear Icon, scroll down, tap Delete Account, and confirm. | Its privacy policy describes a three-month safety-retention window. Account deletion removes profile content, photos, chat history, and member interactions under the policy; save any needed data first. |
| OkCupid | On the website, go to Settings and use the “Need a Break?” route. In the app, open your profile and Settings, then choose deletion in the disable/delete flow. | Choose deletion rather than disabling for permanent closure. Its privacy policy, dated January 16, 2025, describes a three-month safety-retention window. Apple and Google Play subscriptions must be canceled with those services separately. |
| Match | Use the account-deletion option in the app or on the website. | Match says it does not send an email confirming deletion. Keep a record of the completed flow or support correspondence if you need proof. The reviewed help information does not state a detailed retention schedule. |
| eharmony | Open the account’s Profile Status section, follow the permanent profile deletion link, and confirm deletion of the profile and personal data by entering the login password. | A universal retention period is not established in the reviewed FAQ. Check the privacy policy applicable to your account; legal obligations and regional rules may affect retention. |
What account deletion does—and does not—remove
Closing an account is not necessarily the same as immediate erasure of every record. Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid describe a three-month safety-retention period in their privacy policies; Tinder’s Help Center separately describes 90 days before profile data is purged. These are service-stated retention periods, not a guarantee that every record is deleted on one universal schedule. Policies also allow limited retention for specified legal, safety, or other legitimate purposes.

For a broader request about personal information, use the service’s privacy-request channel to ask about deletion, access, or other rights available where you live. The service may ask you to verify your identity. OkCupid’s policy says users can contact it for deletion and may need to verify identity; Hinge provides privacy-request guidance. Your available rights and the service’s obligations depend in part on jurisdiction.

After closing the account
- Keep any deletion confirmation, screenshots, or support correspondence. For Match, do not expect an email confirmation according to its help page.
- Review connected sign-ins and device permissions separately. Revoke access to contacts, photos, location, or notifications if you no longer want the app to use them. This prevents future access through that permission; it does not erase information the service already holds.
- If you cannot sign in, use the platform’s official support or privacy-request channel to ask how to close the account or submit a data request.
- Check the account and billing provider later if you need to confirm that a subscription was canceled. Account closure and subscription cancellation are separate actions on some services.
