Choose Dashlane if its included Wi-Fi VPN and dark web monitoring matter to you, especially as an individual. Choose 1Password if you want a clearly described five-person family plan, shared vaults, and Travel Mode. Both offer core password-management features in their paid personal plans; the better fit depends on how you share access and which extras you will actually use.

Both companies describe password storage, autofill, sharing, and security-monitoring features in their paid personal offerings. These are vendor-listed capabilities, not results from comparative hands-on testing or independent security validation.
Which service makes more sense for an individual?
Consider Dashlane Premium for its bundled extras
Dashlane lists unlimited devices and passwords or passkeys, secure sharing, dark web monitoring, real-time phishing alerts, and a VPN for Wi-Fi protection with Premium. Its documentation also lists breach notifications and says users can choose a Master Password, PIN code, or physical security key as a login option. Those features may make Premium appealing if you want these particular capabilities in one plan; the available information does not establish how its detection performs compared with 1Password’s.

1Password lists password generation, autosave and autofill, secure sharing, use across devices, browser extensions, developer tools, 1 GB of storage per user, and Watchtower alerts for weak or compromised credentials. It describes end-to-end encryption and account protection using both an account password and a Secret Key. Its Travel Mode may also be useful if you want to keep selected vaults out of the apps and browser extension while the mode is enabled.

Which family plan fits your household?
The plans differ in both the number of people covered and who receives certain features. Dashlane Friends & Family covers ten accounts under one subscription, but Dashlane says only the plan manager receives VPN access; invited members do not. 1Password Families includes up to five family members, unlimited shared vaults, and simple access controls.
For a household larger than five, Dashlane’s listed account count may be the more relevant distinction. For a smaller household that wants shared vaults and straightforward controls, 1Password describes those features as part of Families. Check how each service’s sharing and permissions work for your household before choosing: the plan descriptions do not establish which one will feel easier to manage in practice.

How Travel Mode works in 1Password
1Password says Travel Mode hides selected vaults when crossing borders. Its support documentation explains that vaults not marked safe for travel are removed from the apps and browser extension while Travel Mode is enabled. It also cautions: “Travel Mode removes vaults from the browser extension, but it doesn’t stop the extension from signing you in to 1Password.com.” This is a specific behavior of the apps and extension, not a guarantee about every possible access path or legal outcome.
What the plans cost in the 2026 snapshot
The 1Password page checked in 2026 listed promotional annual-billing rates of $2.99 per month for Individual and $4.49 per month for Families, against listed regular prices of $3.99 and $5.99 per month, respectively. The promotional rates apply to eligible new customers subscribing directly through 1Password.com, for the first year with annual billing; third-party app-store subscriptions are excluded. Recheck the official checkout terms, since eligibility and prices can change.
Dashlane said personal-plan price changes began taking effect on its website and app stores in mid-February 2026, and that customers are notified before renewal when their price changes. The Dashlane material available for this comparison did not show a readable current numeric USD price for Premium or Friends & Family, so there is no sound basis here for estimating or reusing an older figure. Check Dashlane’s live checkout price and compare the amount and renewal terms against 1Password before subscribing.

How to choose when the feature lists do not settle it
- Start with the people who need accounts. Compare Dashlane’s ten-account Friends & Family plan with 1Password Families’ five-person plan.
- Ask who needs the VPN. Dashlane says the Friends & Family manager receives VPN access, not invited members.
- Decide whether Travel Mode matters. 1Password describes a specific way to remove vaults not marked safe from its apps and browser extension while the mode is on.
- Check the full renewal cost. Confirm eligibility for any 1Password first-year promotion and get Dashlane’s current personal-plan price at checkout.
- Try your own everyday tasks. The available plan descriptions do not establish comparative autofill accuracy, migration ease, reliability, audit outcomes, or customer satisfaction. If those are decisive, test your usual devices, browser, and account-sharing workflow before committing.
