This is the listing’s overall capability figure, not a promise that every activity will contain six participants simultaneously. Can you use a Dark Souls III save with The Fire Fades Edition?
Yes, when the upgrade is on the same platform. FromSoftware states that you can use the same save data with the complete edition. A base-game character can therefore continue in The Fire Fades Edition instead of starting over.
The DLC visibility limitation
The save relationship is not symmetrical. FromSoftware also explains that data saved after entering DLC areas will not be found in save data created without the DLC. In practical terms, a save from the complete edition can contain progress that the base-only installation cannot interpret or display. The base save remains usable when moving into The Fire Fades Edition, but a copy that lacks the DLC cannot expose progress made in those DLC areas.
Safer same-platform upgrade procedure
- Back up the existing save using the platform’s normal save-backup method before changing editions.
- Install The Fire Fades Edition on the same platform family and user account used for the original save.
