Half Human Games announced Myths from the Maw on October 14, 2026, as a dark cosmic-fantasy tactical strategy RPG for PC. The game is not released yet: its Steam page shows “Coming soon” and supports wishlisting. A Kickstarter campaign is planned for early 2027, but no launch date or funding result has been announced.
What Myths from the Maw is
You lead a band of mercenaries into the Maw, a colossal starfallen—or “spacefallen”—fortress. Expeditions send the party through hostile environments filled with rival warbands, eldritch horrors, traps and corruption. Half Human Games, the developer and publisher known for Dwerve, describes the project as a dark fantasy built around costly choices. Founder Percy Legendre IV calls it “basically our love letter to Dante’s Inferno.”
The central premise is risk management: blood sacrifices to alien gods can grant power, but every sacrifice adds moral and mechanical burdens to the mercenaries carrying it. As the founder puts it, “In the Maw, every choice costs something, and you carry it with you.”

How the tactical combat works
Combat is turn-based, with positioning and action timing at its core. The announced systems include area-of-effect skill patterns, attacks that combine movement with damage, status effects, knockback, pulls, immobilization and battlefield hazards.

The Battle Clock
Every action advances a Battle Clock. That makes an apparently safe move a timing decision: spending time to reposition, apply a status effect or set a hazard can change when enemies act and whether your formation survives. The announcement does not yet specify turn durations, initiative values or a complete list of status effects.
Positioning tools
- Move-attacks: attack while changing position, potentially opening or closing a route through the battlefield.
- Knockback and pulls: manipulate enemy locations and set up attacks or hazards.
- Immobilization: restrict a target’s movement so the party can control space.
- Area patterns and hazards: reward planning around groups, chokepoints and threatened tiles.
Corruption changes characters, not just a meter
Corruption can rise through blood sacrifice, killing enemies, narrative decisions and failed checks. High corruption produces sinful traits that influence narrative events, campsite actions and battles. These effects are behavioral as well as statistical, so a corrupted mercenary may undermine a plan without waiting for a combat debuff.

The corruption system can also remove a character from the roster. A mercenary who succumbs to sin may defect to the Cult of the Maw. Later expeditions can allow the player to confront that former ally, turning an earlier decision into a future encounter.

Races, classes and equipment builds
Announcement materials cite 12 races and 20 classes, with examples including Shadow Knight, Sword Dancer and Witch Hunter. Equipment-driven customization is intended to shape each mercenary’s role and abilities.

The class total is provisional. A separate BackerKit preview lists 25 classes, conflicting with the 20-class figure in the announcement materials. Until Half Human Games clarifies the difference, neither number should be treated as the final launch roster.

Roguelike expedition structure
Myths from the Maw is designed for repeated expeditions rather than a single fixed route. Announced roguelike features include meaningful permadeath, procedural dungeons, randomized loot and abilities, and replay-focused runs.

- Permadeath: losing a mercenary is intended to have lasting consequences.
- Procedural dungeons: layouts and encounters are expected to vary between expeditions.
- Randomized loot and abilities: each run can produce different build opportunities.
- Persistent consequences: corruption, defection and narrative decisions can follow the party beyond one battle.
The materials do not yet establish how much progression carries between runs, whether every death is permanent in every mode, or how procedural generation affects campaign objectives.

The confirmed platform is PC through Steam. Steam currently lists support information for Windows, macOS and SteamOS + Linux, while the product remains unreleased and marked “Coming soon.” No exact release date, early-access date or system-requirements list has been announced.

Half Human Games plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign in early 2027. “Planned” does not mean the campaign has launched or will be funded; pledge tiers, a target amount, rewards and a campaign URL have not been announced in the available materials.
What is still unknown
- The release date and whether the game will launch in early access.
- Final class and race counts, especially the 20-versus-25 class discrepancy.
- Detailed PC hardware requirements and performance targets.
- Campaign length, multiplayer features and the exact rules governing carried-over progression.
- Kickstarter funding goal, reward tiers and final schedule.
For now, the most reliable way to follow development is to wishlist the game on Steam and watch for Half Human Games’ Kickstarter announcement in early 2027.
