Verdict: The Dangbei MP1 Max is a bright, convenient lifestyle projector that can produce an enormous image, but its headline 300-inch (25-foot diagonal) maximum is a ceiling, not the size most rooms or picture modes should target. Its integrated rotating stand, automatic setup, Google TV and licensed Netflix make it unusually easy to live with. The compromises are equally clear: 4K UHD is produced by wobulating a 0.47-inch DMD rather than a native 4K chip, black levels are weak, the brightest mode has a visible green cast, and 35 ms input lag limits it to casual gaming.
For most buyers, the sensible target is an 80- to 150-inch screen in a dimmable room. At that range, the MP1 Max’s useful brightness and flexible placement are more important than the 300-inch specification. It is a strong all-in-one option for animated movies, sport, television and occasional games; it is less convincing as a dark-room home-theater projector or competitive gaming display.
What the Dangbei MP1 Max actually is
The MP1 Max is a DLP projector built around a 0.47-inch DMD and a triple-laser-plus-LED light source. Dangbei specifies 3,840 × 2,160 output, which is 4K UHD output rather than native 4K imaging. Les Numériques reports that the projector reaches that apparent resolution through wobulation: the imaging device shifts pixels rapidly to display the full 4K frame. That distinction matters if you are comparing it with a projector that uses a native 4K chip, because fine detail and pixel structure are produced differently.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The optical system has a 1.2:1 throw ratio and Dangbei lists an image range of 40 to 300 inches. A 300-inch diagonal is approximately 25 feet, which explains the “25-ft screen” claim. It does not mean the projector is optimized for a 25-foot viewing setup. ProjectorCentral says Dangbei recommends 80 to 150 inches for best performance, a far more realistic range for homes and living rooms.

A built-in stand rotates 360 degrees horizontally and tilts up to 135 degrees vertically. The projector also provides autofocus, automatic keystone correction and screen-fit functions. Those features make it easy to aim at a wall, screen or ceiling without first building a permanent mount. They are digital corrections, however; they do not add optical zoom or lens shift. If you need to move the image without reducing its pixel geometry, the MP1 Max cannot do what a projector with a lens-shift mechanism can.
How large can you realistically project?
Use the 300-inch number as a physical limit, not a recommendation. As the image grows, brightness per unit area falls and any weakness in black level, uniformity or wall quality becomes easier to see. The projector’s own recommended 80- to 150-inch range is a better starting point for judging picture quality.
The 1.2:1 throw ratio means the lens-to-screen distance is about 1.2 times the screen’s width. The estimates below use a 16:9 screen and rounded dimensions; actual placement depends on the optical design and the projector’s correction settings.

| Diagonal image | Approximate 16:9 width | Approximate throw distance at 1.2:1 | Practical reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80 inches | 5.8 feet | 7.0 feet | Bright, manageable living-room target |
| 100 inches | 7.3 feet | 8.8 feet | Good general-purpose size |
| 120 inches | 8.7 feet | 10.4 feet | Immersive if the room can be darkened |
| 150 inches | 10.9 feet | 13.1 feet | Upper end of Dangbei’s recommended range |
| 300 inches | 21.8 feet | 26.2 feet | Maximum specification; demands a very large, controlled space |
These are diagonal sizes, not wall widths. A 25-foot diagonal image is roughly 21.8 feet wide in 16:9, so a room must accommodate both that width and more than 26 feet of throw distance. At that scale, a suitable screen, wall flatness, seating distance and ambient light become bigger constraints than the projector’s ability to generate a signal.
Brightness: 3,100 ISO lumens needs context
Dangbei’s current US product listing rates the MP1 Max at 3,100 ISO lumens. That is a manufacturer rating, not a promise that every picture mode produces 3,100 lumens with accurate color. ProjectorCentral measured 3,084 lumens in the projector’s SDR High Performance/Game mode, which is close to the specification, but observed a noticeable green tint in that brightest setting.

The more practical Standard mode measured 2,007 lumens in ProjectorCentral’s SDR test. Movie mode measured 1,720 SDR lumens. In HDR, the same review measured 3,050 lumens in High Performance and 1,949 in Standard, while Movie mode produced 1,679. These figures show why a single headline lumen number is insufficient: changing the mode changes both output and color balance.
| Picture mode | ProjectorCentral SDR measurement | ProjectorCentral HDR measurement | Reviewer’s qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| High Performance/Game | 3,084 lumens | 3,050 lumens | Brightest option, with a noticeable green tint |
| Standard | 2,007 lumens | 1,949 lumens | More practical balance; cooler cast reported |
| Movie | 1,720 lumens | 1,679 lumens | Dimmer presentation for cinema-oriented viewing |
Les Numériques measured a 193 cd/m² HDR peak. That is a screen luminance measurement from its test setup, not an interchangeable replacement for the ISO-lumen figures. Keep the measurement methods separate when comparing projectors.

In use, the output is helpful for colorful television, animation and sport when some room light remains. ProjectorCentral found bright animated material watchable even with direct ambient light on the screen, although it looked better in a dark room. The same review found dark scenes noticeably washed out when room lights were on. Brightness can overcome some competing light, but it cannot restore shadow detail that the projector’s limited contrast fails to produce. An ambient-light-rejecting screen is worth considering if you regularly watch dark content with lights on; no particular screen model was tested.
Picture quality: strengths and compromises
Contrast and black levels
Les Numériques measured 650:1 contrast and characterizes it as a limitation. Blacks can look gray rather than truly black, especially in a room with reflective walls or lights on. This is the principal reason the MP1 Max is better suited to mixed-content viewing than to a dedicated, dark home-theater room where shadow detail and black level are the main priorities.
Color coverage and accuracy
Using a Calibrite Display Plus HL probe and CalMAN Ultimate, Les Numériques measured average SDR Delta E of 4.9 and HDR Delta E of 3.5. It recorded 94% Rec.709 coverage, 90.4% DCI-P3 and 68.6% Rec.2020. Those results indicate broad enough color coverage for mainstream HDR and SDR content, but they do not eliminate the visible tint associated with the maximum-output mode. Standard or Movie modes are the better starting points when color balance matters more than peak brightness.

Laser speckle and motion processing
Les Numériques reports laser speckle, a fine grain or shimmering texture that some viewers notice on bright, uniform areas. Sensitivity varies with the screen surface, seating distance and content. The review also found that MEMC can create a pronounced soap-opera effect even at a low setting. Leave motion interpolation off for film-like material and enable it only for content where extra fluidity is desirable.
Detail from the wobulated 4K output
The MP1 Max accepts and displays 4K UHD signals, but the 0.47-inch DMD is not a native 3,840 × 2,160 imaging chip. Wobulation shifts the displayed pixels to assemble the 4K frame. From a normal seating distance, this can look detailed and sharp; it should not be described as native 4K when comparing specifications.
Placement and automated setup
The stand is the MP1 Max’s most distinctive convenience feature. It can turn a conventional front projection setup into a flexible room-to-room device and allows ceiling projection without installing a ceiling mount. Digital Camera World found screen-edge detection quick in its hands-on testing except in direct sunlight, and also confirmed that ceiling projection is possible.
Automatic correction saves time, but every correction has a cost. Keystone processing digitally rescales the image, and screen-fit systems can reduce the usable picture area or introduce extra processing. For the cleanest 4K detail, place the projector as square to the screen as the room allows, then use autofocus and only the minimum keystone correction needed.
The rear power connection can push the chassis farther from a wall than expected. Measure the cable bend and ventilation clearance before deciding that a shallow shelf is deep enough. Digital Camera World also noted occasional menu hesitation and a fan that initially sounded relatively loud.

A reliable first-time setup
- Choose the surface and target size. Start around 80 to 120 inches if you want a bright, flexible living-room image. Use a flat, neutral screen or wall; textured or colored surfaces will show their own defects.
- Calculate the placement. Measure the screen width and multiply by 1.2 for an initial lens-to-screen distance. Leave room for the rear power lead and airflow.
- Set the stand angle. Use the 360-degree horizontal rotation and up-to-135-degree vertical tilt to aim the lens. Keep the chassis as level and square as possible.
- Run autofocus and screen fit. Let the automatic routines detect the edges, then inspect all four corners and small text for distortion.
- Minimize keystone. If the image is badly trapezoidal, reposition the projector instead of relying on a large digital correction.
- Select a picture mode deliberately. Use Standard for a balance of output and color, Movie for a dimmer cinema presentation, and High Performance/Game only when maximum brightness is worth the reported green cast.
- Check motion settings. Turn MEMC off for films if the soap-opera effect is distracting; enable it selectively for sport or other fast material.
- Test the room at viewing time. Look at a dark film scene with the lights in their normal evening position. If blacks wash out, darken the room or consider an ambient-light-rejecting screen.
Streaming, operating system and sound
Google TV is built in, and Dangbei lists licensed Netflix support. That means the MP1 Max is designed as a stand-alone streaming display rather than a projector that requires a separate streaming stick for the major service. App availability can still vary by country and account region, so verify the services you use before purchase.
Dangbei lists dual 12 W speakers, Dolby Audio and DTS:X. Reviewers generally found the built-in sound usable or strong for a projector. Les Numériques reports limited spatialization and bass that is overly emphasized in Film mode, so the speakers are convenient for everyday viewing but not a substitute for a properly positioned sound system. Dialogue-heavy programs may benefit from a different sound mode or external speakers.
Gaming performance
Les Numériques measured 35 ms input lag at 60 Hz. That is acceptable for occasional console play, turn-based games and slower single-player titles, but it is not a strong specification for competitive fast-paced play where every frame matters. The projector is listed and tested at 60 Hz; do not buy it expecting high-refresh gaming.
High Performance/Game mode is the mode that reached 3,084 SDR lumens in ProjectorCentral’s test, but it also introduced the noticeable green cast described above. Decide whether visibility in a lit room or color fidelity is more important for your gaming setup. A large projected image is immersive, but the 35 ms response remains the limiting factor for competitive use.
Noise, controls and everyday usability
Les Numériques measured 31.4 dB at one metre. That is audible in a quiet room, although the perceived impact depends on fan behavior, seating distance and the soundtrack. Digital Camera World described the fan as relatively loud at first and noted occasional menu hesitation. Place the projector far enough from the primary seats for the fan to blend into normal program audio, while preserving the required throw distance and ventilation.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The automated focus, keystone and screen detection reduce setup friction when the projector moves between rooms. If you install it permanently, spend time aligning it physically and save the corrected image rather than repeatedly asking the software to compensate for a poor angle.
Price and value by region
Price information is time-sensitive. Dangbei’s US listing displayed the MP1 Max at $1,599 against a $1,999 reference price and showed it in stock when accessed on October 13, 2026. That is a dated listing snapshot, not a guaranteed current price or promotion. Computer Bild cited €1,700 in Germany in March 2026. Taxes, distribution, warranty terms and regional models can change the comparison, so check the local listing immediately before buying.
At roughly this class of pricing, compare usable picture modes rather than maximum lumens alone. A projector that produces fewer measured lumens in a color-balanced mode may be preferable to one whose peak mode has a distracting cast. Also compare measured contrast, black level, throw flexibility, optical zoom, lens shift, input lag, noise, smart-TV licensing and speaker performance.
Les Numériques mentions the Hisense C2 as a similarly priced lifestyle projector, while Dangbei’s Mars Pro 2 is an internal alternative buyers may encounter. The relevant questions are whether each rival’s brightness is measured in a practical mode, whether it offers better contrast, and how much placement freedom comes from optical zoom or lens shift rather than keystone. Compare prices from the same country and date; a temporary promotion can reverse a value judgment.
Who should buy the MP1 Max?
It makes sense if you want:
- A large image without a permanent ceiling installation.
- One unit with Google TV, licensed Netflix and built-in speakers.
- A rotating stand and automated correction for occasional ceiling, wall or room-to-room use.
- Enough output for colorful content in a room that cannot be made completely dark.
- Casual gaming where 35 ms at 60 Hz is acceptable.
Choose another type of projector if you need:
- Deep black levels and strong shadow detail for dark-room cinema.
- Native 4K imaging rather than wobulated 4K UHD output.
- Optical zoom or lens shift for a fixed installation with little placement flexibility.
- Competitive gaming response or refresh rates above 60 Hz.
- Silent operation in a very quiet viewing room.
Advantages and drawbacks at a glance
| Advantages | Drawbacks |
|---|---|
| High manufacturer-rated output and strong measured peak brightness | High Performance/Game mode has a noticeable green tint |
| 40- to 300-inch listed image range | 300 inches is a maximum specification, not the recommended everyday size |
| 360-degree rotation and up-to-135-degree tilt | No optical zoom or lens shift |
| Autofocus, auto keystone and screen fit | Digital correction can reduce image geometry and detail |
| Google TV and licensed Netflix built in | App availability can vary by region |
| Dual 12 W speakers with Dolby Audio and DTS:X | Limited spatialization and emphasized bass in Film mode reported |
| Color coverage measured at 94% Rec.709 and 90.4% DCI-P3 | 650:1 measured contrast, gray-looking blacks and reported laser speckle |
| 35 ms input lag is workable for casual games | Not a good choice for competitive fast-action gaming |
Final buying guidance
The Dangbei MP1 Max is worth considering when convenience and image size rank above absolute cinema performance. Its stand, automatic setup and integrated streaming make it unusually easy to deploy, while its measured 2,007 lumens in Standard SDR mode provide useful headroom for ordinary living-room content. The projector can produce a very large picture, but the best ownership experience is likely to come from staying within the 80- to 150-inch range Dangbei recommends.
Buy it for bright, colorful entertainment, flexible placement and a self-contained Google TV setup. Do not buy it on the promise of a routine 25-foot screen, deep blacks in a lit room, native 4K, or esports-grade latency. Those distinctions turn the MP1 Max from an exciting specification sheet into a projector with clearly defined strengths and limits.
