Daiichikosho says information stored on a computer used by its service provider may have been exposed after malware infected the PC. The company’s 8 October 2026 notice estimates about 8.724 million records may be involved, but it had not confirmed that information was disclosed outside the provider or misused. The investigation was ongoing.
What happened?
Nippon Columbia Group (NCG), a service provider handling work commissioned by Daiichikosho, reported malware on an employee’s computer. The machine temporarily stored personal information connected with that work. Daiichikosho says it cannot rule out that information leaking from the computer; the notice does not establish that attackers took or published it.
NCG told Daiichikosho it believed the computer was infected between 1 and 2 October 2026 and isolated it from the network on 2 October. After investigating the possible scope, NCG reported the incident to Daiichikosho on 5 October. Daiichikosho published its notice on 8 October, saying the cause and scope were still under investigation and that NCG had reset passwords.
How many records may be involved?
Daiichikosho’s estimates, published on 8 October 2026, total about 8.724 million records. That is a count of records or items of information, not a confirmed count of unique people. The company deducts about 515,000 duplicate customer records in its customer total.

| Overall total | 8,724,000 |
All figures are approximate estimates published by Daiichikosho in its 8 October 2026 notice. The six category counts are not meant to be added to the adjusted customer total: the company lists about 515,000 duplicate records deducted from the customer aggregation. The overall figure combines that adjusted customer total with the employee-information estimate.
What information could be involved?
For customer information, Daiichikosho lists registered name, sex, date of birth, email address, and telephone number. It says passwords are not among the information potentially involved. The company also says this information alone cannot be used to redeem points, and that it had identified no point misuse when it issued the notice.

The notice describes possible exposure, not confirmed external disclosure. As of 8 October, Daiichikosho said it had not confirmed actual leakage to an outside party or incident-related misuse of personal information. It also reported no impact to its own systems. These are the company’s findings at that point in the investigation, not a final determination that no information left the provider’s environment.
