Short answer: Cyrus’s Classic STREAM and Stream-XR are BluOS streamers. Cyrus lists Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, Spotify, Roon, AirPlay 2 and other services for both models. The Classic STREAM handles common lossless and high-resolution formats up to 192 kHz/24-bit, while AirPlay 2 and BluOS provide different approaches to whole-home playback.
Long-term ownership is more nuanced. Cyrus says BluOS development is maintained by a third party, but it does not promise a fixed number of software-update years. Cyrus publishes firmware and says it can service many products more than 40 years old, subject to parts, market and model availability.
Which streaming services do Cyrus streamers support?
The Classic STREAM and Stream-XR use BluOS as their main network-audio platform. On the product pages checked for this guide, Cyrus lists Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer and Spotify, along with many other services, Roon and AirPlay 2. The list describes what Cyrus supports on those pages; it should not be treated as a permanent catalog because streaming companies, licensing agreements and regional availability can change.

Cyrus lists BluOS control apps for iOS, Android, Kindle, Mac and PC. That gives you a choice of phone, tablet or computer control rather than requiring a dedicated Cyrus remote. The app is the normal place to browse services, network libraries and internet radio sources exposed by BluOS.

How Roon fits in
Cyrus presents Roon as a library and service layer rather than simply another standalone streaming catalog. Its description says Roon can bring together music from internal or external drives, network-attached storage, iTunes libraries, internet radio, Tidal and Qobuz. If your collection is spread across a NAS, computer libraries and subscriptions, Roon is intended to present those sources in one interface; the Roon subscription and account requirements remain separate from the streamer hardware.
Service availability can vary
- A service named on a Cyrus product page may have different catalogs or features by country.
- Provider terms can change after a streamer is sold, so no service list should be read as a lifetime guarantee.
- For a purchase decision, check that your preferred service appears in the current BluOS catalog for your country and operating-system app.
Can the Classic STREAM play FLAC and high-resolution files?
Yes. Cyrus’s Classic STREAM specification lists support for MP3, AAC, WMA, WMA-L, OGG, ALAC, OPUS, FLAC, MQA, WAV, AIFF and MPEG-4 SLS, with playback support up to 192 kHz/24-bit. That includes widely used compressed formats, lossless formats such as FLAC and ALAC, and high-resolution PCM files within the stated sample-rate and bit-depth limit.

The published specification is a manufacturer claim, not an independent laboratory result. No independent compatibility or performance testing establishes how every file variant, tag layout or network library behaves. Files above 192 kHz or 24-bit are outside the Classic STREAM limit stated by Cyrus, so check the source file’s properties when troubleshooting playback.

Classic STREAM connections
Cyrus lists both wired and wireless network connections: a Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet port and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The hardware specification also lists optical and coaxial digital outputs, an analogue line output, USB and Cyrus MC-BUS.

Can a Cyrus streamer work in a multi-room system?
Yes, but Cyrus describes two related systems: AirPlay 2 and BluOS multi-room. They are not identical, so the best choice depends on which devices you already own.
AirPlay 2: synchronized or separate rooms
Cyrus says AirPlay 2 lets multiple Cyrus players communicate, play in perfect sync from room to room, or play different songs in different rooms under iOS control. This is useful when your household already uses iPhones or iPads and you want the familiar AirPlay speaker-selection interface. The control device is an iOS device, and the other AirPlay 2 players must be reachable on the same home network.
BluOS: a Cyrus player inside a BluOS system
The Stream-XR specification describes BluOS as multi-room software that can stream lossless music to every room, find music on a home network, cloud service or internet radio, and share those sources with BluOS-enabled devices. In practice, BluOS is the more natural route when the rest of your system already uses BluOS players and you want one platform for network files, online services and radio.
- Choose AirPlay 2 when iOS device control and broad AirPlay interoperability are your priority.
- Choose BluOS grouping when you want BluOS players to share the same network, cloud and internet-radio sources.
- Use Ethernet where possible for fixed players; otherwise, place Wi-Fi players where the 2.4 or 5 GHz signal is reliable.
Classic STREAM versus Stream-XR: what is actually established?
Cyrus’s pages establish common platform features, but they do not publish every comparable hardware detail in the material available for this guide. The table separates stated facts from items that require confirmation from a current manual or dealer.

This distinction matters when comparing listings. A shared BluOS service list does not prove that the two players have identical DACs, input stages, file limits, displays or upgrade paths. For those details, use the current Cyrus manual or ask an authorized retailer to confirm the exact model and market version.
Will Cyrus keep supporting a streamer?
Software support: a commitment without a fixed end date
Cyrus states that BluOS development and support are secured by a third party. Its published wording is: “The ongoing development and support for BluOS is secured by a third party, providing a guarantee that the BluOS software will be maintained and developed well into the future, should new streaming options become available.”
That statement indicates an ongoing maintenance arrangement, but it does not promise a specific number of update years for Classic STREAM or Stream-XR. Streaming-service compatibility can also depend on changes made by the service provider, not only on Cyrus or BluOS. Treat any firmware version as time-sensitive rather than assuming that a version number will remain current.
Firmware downloads and change logs
Cyrus’s XR support page publishes firmware packages and change logs, together with update instructions and a support contact. The page lists firmware version 2.5 for i7, i9 and Pre-XR products. Because firmware pages can change, check the live XR support page for the current package, model match and installation notes before updating. Do not install a file intended for a different model.

Hardware repairs and product age
Cyrus says it can service most products it has manufactured, including some that left the factory more than 40 years ago. That is a broad service policy, not an unconditional guarantee: parts availability can create exceptions, and the supported model and market must be checked first.
For supported XR, Classic and ONE models, Cyrus lists a fixed-fee UK service price of £330. The fee is a UK figure and may change; international customers are directed to local retailers or distributors rather than the UK service route.
What the July 2025 model-status document means
Cyrus’s July 2025 supported-models document marks Classic STREAM green and Stream-XR yellow. In that document’s key, green means fully supported. Yellow means repair may be possible in some markets, while parts status is less certain. These colors are not a lifetime promise, so verify the latest status before committing to a repair or buying an older unit.
How to evaluate a Cyrus streamer before buying
- Confirm the platform you need. If your household uses BluOS products, the shared BluOS ecosystem may be the deciding factor. If your control devices are iPhones and iPads, AirPlay 2 may be more important.
- Check your services in your country. Compare your required subscriptions with the current BluOS catalog, because service availability and catalogs can change by region.
- Audit your files. The Classic STREAM specification covers the formats listed above and tops out at 192 kHz/24-bit. Identify any files above that limit before assuming they will play directly.
- Plan the connection. Use Gigabit Ethernet for a fixed installation when possible, or confirm that your Wi-Fi 5 coverage is strong at the player’s location.
- Match outputs to the rest of the system. Decide whether you need optical, coaxial or analogue line output, and check the receiving amplifier or converter’s input type.
- Check support status for used equipment. Ask for the exact model, serial-market status, available parts and likely service route. The July 2025 color coding is useful context but should be replaced by a current confirmation.
- Verify upgrade claims. PSU-XR compatibility and other hardware options are not established for every model in the published comparison material, so obtain confirmation for the exact unit.
Common problems and what they usually mean
A service appears on the product page but not in the app
First check country and account region, then update the BluOS app and streamer firmware using Cyrus’s current instructions. A service catalog change or licensing restriction can remove an option even when an older product page still names it.

A high-resolution file will not play
Check the container, codec, sample rate and bit depth. The Classic STREAM limit published by Cyrus is 192 kHz/24-bit, and the supported list is format-specific. A file that is merely labeled “hi-res” may still use a codec or profile outside the stated list.
Rooms are out of sync
Confirm that the players are on the same home network and that you are grouping devices through the same system. AirPlay 2 grouping is controlled from iOS; BluOS grouping is for BluOS-enabled devices. Mixing the two control paths can make a room appear unavailable or place it in a different group.
An older unit needs repair
Use the current Cyrus supported-model information, identify your market and ask whether parts remain available. A product’s age alone does not decide serviceability: Cyrus says some products over 40 years old can be serviced, but parts and regional status can still rule out a repair.

Cyrus’s Classic STREAM and Stream-XR are credible choices for listeners who want BluOS, major subscription services, Roon and AirPlay 2 in one network player. The Classic STREAM has a clearly published format list through 192 kHz/24-bit and a broad set of outputs. Multi-room playback is available through AirPlay 2 or BluOS, with each platform suited to a different device ecosystem. For long-term ownership, rely on Cyrus’s third-party BluOS support statement, current firmware page and model-status information rather than assuming a fixed update lifetime; hardware repair remains possible for many models, but parts, country and exact model determine the outcome.
