The Cyrus 40 ST is a high-end network music streamer that What Hi-Fi? named a 2025 Award winner. It combines Cyrus hardware with the BluOS streaming platform, supports major services including Qobuz and Spotify Connect, and is tuned for detailed, rhythmically secure playback. The headline claim that it has won a “third” What Hi-Fi? Award is not established by the currently available award pages, so it should not be treated as confirmed.
What the Cyrus 40 ST is
The 40 ST is a dedicated network streamer for a hi-fi system. It connects to your home network, retrieves music from streaming services or internet radio, and sends the digital signal to a separate amplifier or digital-to-analogue converter. It is aimed at buyers who already own serious amplification and speakers and want a source component at a similar level, rather than an all-in-one wireless speaker.
What Hi-Fi? places it among its best music streamers and gave it a 2025 Award. The review describes it as an unusually capable all-rounder rather than a product designed around one narrow musical speciality.
Price and the 2026 deal
What Hi-Fi? reviewed the Cyrus 40 ST at £2,995 in the UK, $3,995 in the US and AU$4,999 in Australia. A deal page published in May 2026 listed the UK price at £2,649, reduced from £2,995. That is a retailer promotion, not a permanent worldwide price, so check the current price and regional stock before buying.

The 40 ST runs on BluOS, giving it access to a broad network-audio feature set. Supported connection methods and services listed for the model include:

That combination makes it straightforward to use from the native service apps as well as through BluOS. Qobuz and Spotify users can therefore send music directly to the streamer using their respective Connect features.

Important omissions
The model does not include Bluetooth or Chromecast support, omissions What Hi-Fi? specifically highlights. If guests regularly play audio from a phone over Bluetooth, or if your household relies on Chromecast-enabled apps and speakers, those missing options may matter more than the 40 ST’s sound quality.

How it sounds
The review praises the 40 ST for clarity, precision, fine detail, dynamics and rhythmic security. It is intended to reveal small changes in level and timing without making music sound thin or analytical. What Hi-Fi? writes that it is “dynamically … impressively expressive,” handling low-level intensity changes elegantly and giving large orchestral crescendos real conviction.
The same review describes its “blend of detail, dynamics and rhythmic security” as difficult to better at this price. That assessment is paired with a broad-system verdict: the 40 ST does not favour a particular genre and is strong enough to work across a wide range of music and partnering equipment.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
What that means in a system
- For classical and large-scale recordings: dynamic contrasts and orchestral build-ups are a central strength.
- For rhythm-led music: timing and rhythmic security are intended to keep bass lines and beats coherent.
- For mixed libraries: its even-handed tuning avoids making the streamer a specialist choice for only one genre.
As with any source component, the result still depends on the amplifier, speakers, network and recording quality around it. The 40 ST is not a substitute for upgrading weak speakers or an unsuitable amplifier.

The optional Cyrus 40 PSU costs £2,495, nearly as much as the discounted streamer itself. What Hi-Fi? reports that the external supply adds scale, power and authority. Those improvements may appeal to an owner building a no-compromise system, but the accessory changes the economics substantially: buying both at the listed UK prices totals £5,144 before cables or other equipment.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
For most buyers, the sensible order is to assess the 40 ST on its own first, then consider the PSU only when the rest of the system is already sufficiently revealing to expose a worthwhile improvement. The PSU is an upgrade option, not a requirement for the streamer to function.
How it compares with other premium streamers
What Hi-Fi? explicitly discusses the Cyrus 40 ST alongside the Audiolab 9000N and Naim ND5 XS2. The practical comparison points are sound quality, rhythmic drive, software and service support, connectivity and total cost. The Cyrus stands out for its BluOS ecosystem and its combination of detail, dynamics and timing, while Bluetooth and Chromecast remain clear disadvantages for buyers who need those protocols. The competing models’ current prices and feature sets vary by region and date, so a direct shortlist should use live specifications rather than assuming the review-era figures still apply.
Who should buy the Cyrus 40 ST?
- Choose it if you want a premium streamer with BluOS, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect and internet radio in a high-end separates system.
- Choose it if your priority is a precise, dynamic and rhythmically confident presentation that works across many genres.
- Think twice if Bluetooth or Chromecast is essential, because neither is provided.
- Budget carefully if you are considering the 40 PSU; its £2,495 price is a major second-stage investment.
On the evidence of the 2025 review and Award, the Cyrus 40 ST is a serious high-end option rather than a routine network player. Its strongest case is the combination of BluOS convenience and musically convincing performance. The “third Award” wording in the original headline remains unverified; the established recognition is the 2025 What Hi-Fi? Award.
