Yes—cybersecurity students can find scholarships, federal service awards, training subsidies, grants, assistantships, work-study and employer tuition support for study beginning in 2027. The right search strategy is to filter by degree level, eligible major, enrollment format, citizenship or residency, school participation and any identity or service requirement. Award amounts and deadlines change frequently, so treat the figures below as the latest reported terms, not guaranteed 2027 openings, and confirm every live cycle with its sponsor.
Use scholarship applications alongside the Federal Student Aid Financial Aid Toolkit and your school and state aid offices. Federal Student Aid calls the FAFSA® form “the first step students take to apply for federal student aid,” and many states and schools also require it.
What cybersecurity funding is available for 2027?
Cybersecurity funding is not one uniform product. A conventional academic scholarship may reduce tuition, while a service scholarship can pay tuition and a living stipend in exchange for an internship and government employment. Training assistance may pay for a certification exam rather than college tuition. Compare the obligation as carefully as the dollar amount.

Representative undergraduate and general academic scholarships
The following are credible leads reported in the current guide. Check each sponsor’s application page for a new cycle, changed eligibility rules and the expenses the award may cover.
| Program | Latest reported amount and eligibility | 2027 status or timing note |
|---|---|---|
| AFCEA Cyber Security Scholarship | $5,000 for qualifying full-time sophomores or juniors at accredited four-year U.S. institutions; at least a 3.0 GPA; U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Online programs are eligible. | The latest listed application period was closed; do not infer a 2027 date. |
| Howard A. Schmidt Memorial Scholarship (ISSA Education Foundation) | $3,500 for undergraduate cybersecurity or related study; recipients must be at least sophomores when the award is received. | The reported 2026 window was February 1–June 15. A 2027 deadline was not announced. |
| ISACA Foundation Scholarship Program | $500–$5,000 for higher-education students in cybersecurity, IT audit and related digital-trust fields; global eligibility is described for the reported cycle. | A cycle announced September 9, 2026 accepted applications through November 3, 2026. Confirm whether it remains open and watch for the next cycle. |
| ISC2 Center for Cyber Safety and Education academic scholarships | Supports associate, undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity-focused study globally. | The Center awarded a new cohort in August 2026. Check the next cycle’s amount, dates and terms. |
| Nightwing Scholarship with AFCEA | $5,000 for qualifying undergraduate and master’s students in cyber, national-security, intelligence and related fields. | The latest cycle was closed. |
| vCISO Cybersecurity Scholarship | $1,000 for U.S. full-time cybersecurity majors age 18 or older, undergraduate or graduate. | The 2026 cycle closed May 31; no 2027 date should be inferred. |
These awards illustrate why a headline amount is not enough. A $1,000 award with broad eligibility may be more attainable than a larger award restricted to a particular year, school or residency status.
Graduate students: scholarships and campus funding
Graduate applicants should search both national awards and their department’s internal funding. The ISSA Education Foundation’s E. Eugene Schultz Jr. Memorial Scholarship is reported at $3,500 for graduate cybersecurity or information-security-related study. AFCEA’s Ralph W. Shrader Graduate Scholarship is reported at $3,000 for qualifying full-time graduate students in eligible STEM fields, including cybersecurity.
Ask a department graduate coordinator about assistantships, fellowships, research positions and institution-specific awards. These can include a stipend, tuition reduction or hourly employment, but availability and selection are controlled by the institution. Also ask an employer whether tuition support applies to a cybersecurity degree or approved courses.
Federal and service-based programs
Service programs can be the largest source of support, but they are not “free money” in the ordinary sense: the recipient accepts work, internship, clearance or employment conditions. Read the service agreement before comparing these programs with no-obligation scholarships.

CyberAI Scholarship for Service (CyberAI SFS, also seen as CyberCorps/SFS)
The guide reports that NSF renamed the program CyberAI Scholarship for Service in 2026, while the Office of Personnel Management’s public student overview still uses CyberCorps/SFS. Confirm the name used in the current solicitation and by your participating school.
Reported support is up to three years of tuition and required education fees, an academic-year stipend of $27,000 for undergraduates or $37,000 for graduate students, plus a professional allowance. Students apply through participating institutions, which run their own selection processes. Recipients complete required internships and generally owe qualifying post-graduation government service for a period equal to the support period. Check citizenship or residency rules, eligible degree fields, participating schools and the current consequences for leaving the program or not completing service.

CIA Stokes Undergraduate Scholarship
The guide reported that the CIA was not accepting Summer 2027 applications at the September 2026 snapshot. It describes a financial-need-based program with summer work and relevant cyber career areas. Monitor the agency’s current student page rather than relying on a previous opening or closing date.
Focused opportunities for women, veterans and community-college students
Women in cybersecurity
Several programs target women or women’s participation in cybersecurity:
- ESET’s 2026 U.S. cycle included two $10,000 awards and ran March 8–April 8. Those figures and dates are historical; do not assume a 2027 repeat.
- The Center for Cyber Safety and Education’s Samantha Jennings-Jones Memorial Scholarship is reported at $5,000.
- ISACA’s SheLeadsTech offers awards whose amount and current eligibility must be checked in the live cycle.
- ISSA’s Shon Harris WIS Memorial Scholarship is reported at $2,000.
- An EC-Council University tuition reduction is school-specific and not transferable.
Veterans and military families
AFCEA’s War Veterans Scholarship is reported at $2,500. An AFCEA iWorks award is described for a military member’s or veteran’s spouse or child, and an EC-Council University veteran tuition deduction is also listed. Each has distinct enrollment, service and funding conditions; military status alone does not establish eligibility.
Community-college and professional training support
Microsoft and the Last Mile Education Fund are described as providing qualifying low-income U.S. community-college cybersecurity students with up to $500 in financial assistance and up to $375 in certification-exam subsidies. These are assistance programs, not necessarily full tuition scholarships.
WiCyS’s Security Training Scholarship supports members seeking cybersecurity work through professional-development funding. ISSA/SANS training support is separate from ISSA’s academic scholarships. Confirm membership, income, course and exam requirements before treating any of these as degree funding.

Online students and students applying to multiple awards
Online enrollment is explicitly eligible for the AFCEA Cyber Security Scholarship, but that does not make every online program eligible for every award. Check accreditation, participating-school lists, full-time or part-time rules and whether the sponsor pays the institution directly.
You can apply to multiple scholarships at once unless a program’s terms say otherwise. Build a separate record for each application: eligibility decision, essay prompt, recommendation requirements, transcript format, FAFSA information, deadline and award restrictions. Winning one award may affect need-based aid, so report outside scholarships to your school’s financial-aid office and ask how the package will be coordinated.
FAFSA and other aid for the 2027–28 academic year
The 2027–28 FAFSA covers attendance from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2028. Its federal submission deadline is June 30, 2028, but state and institutional deadlines can be earlier. Complete it as soon as the form is available and check the deadlines published by your state and school.
FAFSA is not a cybersecurity-specific application. It can unlock federal grants, work-study and loans, and many states and schools use the form to determine their own aid. Submit it even while you pursue private scholarships, unless your aid office confirms that a particular program does not use FAFSA information.

- FAFSA information and any verification documents requested by the school.
- Current transcript and enrollment confirmation.
- One-page résumé showing coursework, projects, competitions, employment, service or community work.
- Essays tailored to the sponsor’s mission rather than a generic cybersecurity statement.
- Recommendation requests made early, with the deadline and submission method clearly stated.
- Proof of citizenship, residency, veteran status, financial need or identity-based eligibility when required.
A practical application calendar
- Now through fall 2026: list degree programs, confirm accreditation and make a spreadsheet of scholarships, federal programs, school aid and employer benefits. Record the sponsor’s last verified date and the page where a new cycle will appear.
- Fall 2026: complete the 2027–28 FAFSA when available, ask schools about priority dates, and investigate programs with early or rolling institutional selection. The reported ISACA cycle ended November 3, 2026, so dates can arrive well before the academic year.
- Winter 2026–27: request transcripts and recommendations, draft essays, and check whether programs require a separate school nomination. Do not reuse a 2026 deadline as a 2027 deadline.
- Spring 2027: submit applications with every attachment in the requested format. The reported 2026 Howard A. Schmidt window ran February 1–June 15, illustrating why spring monitoring matters, not predicting the next window.
- Before accepting an award: read renewal rules, covered expenses, disbursement timing, internship and employment clauses, clearance requirements and the consequences of failing to meet them.
How to compare offers
Use a side-by-side worksheet. A program with a smaller nominal award may be better if it fits your school and has no service commitment; a larger award may be worthwhile only if you want the required government career.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
| Comparison question | What to record |
|---|---|
| Who can apply? | Degree level, year, full-time status, major, school, citizenship or residency, identity, veteran status and financial-need rules. |
| What is paid? | Tuition, required fees, books, supplies, equipment, certification exams, housing, travel, stipend or salary; note annual caps and one-time limits. |
| When is it paid? | Before or after enrollment, directly to the school or to you, one year or renewable, and any satisfactory-progress requirement. |
| What must you submit? | Essay, transcript, recommendations, FAFSA data, résumé, proof documents, interview or school nomination. |
| What must you do afterward? | Internship, summer work, security clearance, government or approved-FFRDC employment, length of service and location restrictions. |
| What if circumstances change? | Ask for the written rule covering withdrawal, transfer, reduced enrollment, inability to obtain clearance, leave of absence or failure to complete service. |
Keep service programs in a separate comparison group from ordinary academic awards. The Office of Personnel Management describes SFS as providing colleges and universities funds for scholarships in cybersecurity-relevant education and says recipients agree to qualifying post-graduation government or approved FFRDC cybersecurity work for a period equal to the scholarship length.
Expenses scholarships may cover
Coverage is sponsor-specific. Some awards are restricted to tuition and required fees; others name books, supplies, certification exams, equipment, housing or travel. The NSA Stokes figure of up to $30,000 per year is reported as tuition-and-fees support, with salary and other support described separately. The CyberAI SFS figures likewise distinguish tuition and required fees, stipends and a professional allowance.
Before budgeting, ask whether the award can be used for an online technology fee, laptop, home internet, exam voucher, housing deposit or an expense incurred before disbursement. If the terms do not name an expense, get written confirmation from the sponsor or financial-aid office.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsScam and accuracy checks
Be suspicious of a guaranteed award, a fee to apply or “reserve” money, requests for bank or card details before a verified award, and high-pressure demands to act immediately. The guide’s summary of Federal Trade Commission advice is not to pay simply to apply for a scholarship. Start from the sponsor’s official domain, verify the current cycle and contact the financial-aid office when a message seems inconsistent.
Quick Recap
- Do not send a payment to release an award.
- Do not provide financial-account credentials through an unsolicited link.
- Check that the award’s eligibility, amount, deadline and renewal terms appear in written sponsor materials.
- Ask whether the sponsor pays the school, reimburses you or sends a stipend, and when.
- Save a copy of every submitted form and the final terms.
Final checklist before you submit
- Confirm that the program is open for the 2027 cycle; a 2026 date is not evidence of a 2027 date.
- Match your degree level, enrollment status, major and institution to the written eligibility rules.
- Calculate the usable value after restrictions, not just the headline amount.
- Separate no-service scholarships from programs requiring internships, clearance or government employment.
- Submit the FAFSA and meet earlier state and school deadlines.
- Proofread essays, verify recommendation delivery and upload every required document.
- Keep a calendar for award acceptance, renewal, internship and service milestones.
