Cybersecurity analytics degrees apply data analysis to security questions, but there is no single standardized degree title or curriculum. Examples range from an undergraduate degree combining analytics and security operations to online master’s programs that pair cybersecurity with analytics. Compare the actual courses, delivery format, requirements, and current cost—not just the program name.
What is cybersecurity analytics?
Cybersecurity analytics uses data-science methods, such as statistical modeling, machine learning, and behavioral analysis, on security data. The aim is to detect threats, identify vulnerabilities, and inform incident response. A cybersecurity analytics program may teach some of these methods, but requirements vary; the title alone does not establish which techniques are included.
It sits at the intersection of two broader fields. Cybersecurity covers a wider range of security work, while general data analytics may not focus on security data or security operations. Programs may emphasize technical security operations, quantitative analysis, business decisions, or a combination.
Which cybersecurity analytics degree programs are available?
“Cybersecurity analytics” is a family of program names, not a standardized credential. The examples below illustrate different approaches; they are not a complete national list or a ranking.
#1 Best Overall
| Institution and credential | What the official description establishes | What to verify before applying |
|---|---|---|
| Penn State — B.S. in Cybersecurity Analytics and Operations | The 2026–2027 Undergraduate Bulletin describes an interdisciplinary undergraduate program preparing students for cybersecurity careers and provides degree requirements. Penn State bulletin | Campus availability, the applicable bulletin edition, current requirements, tuition, and admissions details. |
| Champlain College Online — M.S. in Cybersecurity Analytics | The college advertises an online Master of Science in Cybersecurity Analytics. Champlain College Online program page | Current curriculum, total credits, tuition, fees, admissions requirements, and completion expectations. |
| University of New Mexico — M.S. in Cybersecurity and Business Analytics | The university describes a fully online Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Business Analytics. University of New Mexico program page | Current admissions prerequisites, program requirements, tuition, and fees. |
These examples show why it is useful to search related titles as well as the exact phrase “cybersecurity analytics.” A relevant curriculum may be housed in a cybersecurity, operations, or business analytics degree rather than a program with an exact-match title.
What should the curriculum include?
Inspect the required courses and learning outcomes rather than assuming a degree title guarantees particular skills. Look for coverage suited to your goals in these areas:
Rank #2
- Statistics and data analysis: methods for interpreting security data and distinguishing meaningful patterns from noise.
- Programming and data handling: practical work with code and the data used in security analysis.
- Networking and cybersecurity foundations: enough context to understand the systems and risks represented in the data.
- Security operations: topics such as threat detection and incident response, if those are part of your intended career path.
- Research, projects, or capstone work: opportunities to apply methods to a substantial problem. Check whether this work is required and how it is assessed.
Compare course descriptions, prerequisites, and required versus elective courses. Two programs with similar names can devote different amounts of study to analytics, operations, business, and research.
How do I compare format, length, and total cost?
Start with the format and campus that fit your circumstances, then calculate the full cost for your student category. Published tuition can depend on residency, academic year, course load, and fees; a quoted rate or estimated total is not necessarily your net price.
- Confirm the exact credential and delivery mode. Check whether the program is online, campus-based, or offered in more than one format, and confirm any campus-specific availability.
- Find the required credit total and realistic timeline. Ask how transfer credits, course sequencing, part-time study, and course availability affect time to completion.
- Calculate your applicable cost. Use the institution’s current tuition information for your residency or student category, multiply by the credits you expect to take where appropriate, and include mandatory fees. Check whether rates are per credit, per term, or otherwise structured.
- Check admissions requirements. Confirm required prior education, technical or quantitative preparation, prerequisite courses, and application materials directly with the school.
- Compare the result with your goals. Weigh required courses and total expected cost against the skills and credential you need, rather than relying on a general ranking or a headline tuition figure.
The available program examples do not establish a consistent, current tuition basis across schools, so a like-for-like cost table would risk suggesting more comparability than the published details support. Use each institution’s current program and tuition pages for a personalized estimate.
What does an NSA CAE designation mean?
The National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity program is managed by NSA’s National Cryptologic University with federal partners. NSA describes its aims as setting cybersecurity curriculum and academic excellence standards, developing competencies, encouraging professional development and outreach, integrating cybersecurity practice across disciplines, and engaging with cybersecurity education challenges. NSA says CAE-CD is awarded to regionally accredited academic institutions offering cybersecurity degrees and/or certificates at associate, bachelor’s, and graduate levels. The designation can be a useful institutional signal, but it does not guarantee job placement, quality in every individual course, financial aid, or government employment. Check NSA’s current listing and confirm what designation applies to the specific institution and program.

A separate NSA criteria page says successful CAE-Cyber Operations designation lasts five academic years before reapplication and that designation itself does not commit the sponsor to provide funding. It depends on your background, career goals, the curriculum, and the cost you would actually pay. An undergraduate program may suit someone building foundational skills, while a master’s may be a better fit for someone whose prior education and experience meet its admissions requirements and whose goals align with its advanced coursework. Neither credential guarantees a specific job or salary.
Before deciding, compare the program’s required courses with the skills you want to develop, confirm admissions fit, and estimate total cost and time to completion. The sources available here do not validate a specific workforce-opening or salary statistic for cybersecurity analytics degrees, so use institution-specific program details rather than an unsupported earnings promise to assess value.
