Buy the Nintendo Switch 2 version if portable play, a physical game card and the complete story in one purchase matter most. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Switch 2 includes the base game and Phantom Liberty, and adds gyro aiming, Joy-Con 2 motion controls, touch commands and mouse support. Choose PS5 or Xbox Series X for a more consistently smooth living-room presentation, PS5 Pro for the highest documented console frame-rate and ray-tracing ceiling, or PC for maximum graphics settings and hardware flexibility.
The right choice depends less on the game itself than on where you play, which display you own, whether you already have a save, and how much you value image quality over portability. This guide compares the versions using their documented features and performance targets.
Cyberpunk 2077 versions at a glance
All of these versions contain the same Night City campaign, but they target different kinds of players. The table separates publisher-documented modes from figures reported by an independent Switch 2 review, because the latter are observed targets rather than a universal specification sheet.

Cyberpunk 2077 has passed 30 million copies sold and received more than 200 awards, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s publication information accessed in 2026. Those figures describe the game’s overall release history, not a guarantee that every platform performs identically.

Why the Switch 2 version is different
A complete first purchase
The Switch 2 launch package is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. CD PROJEKT RED says it includes both the original game and the Phantom Liberty expansion, so a new buyer does not need to purchase the expansion separately to get the full advertised package. The physical edition uses a 64GB game card, which is the clearest physical-ownership option in this comparison.
That combination matters if you are buying the game for the first time and want the campaign and expansion together. It also makes the Switch 2 edition attractive to collectors or players who prefer a cartridge-style purchase instead of a download-only transaction. Retail price, stock and any additional download requirement can change by region and retailer, so check the product listing before paying rather than assuming a launch price is still current.
Portable performance and display modes
An independent TechRadar review reports that docked Quality mode targets 30 frames per second at 1080p, while docked Performance mode targets 40fps at 1080p. In handheld Performance mode, the reported target is 40fps at 720p. These are review observations, not a publisher-wide specification sheet, and the game’s busiest areas can place more load on the hardware.

The practical trade-off is straightforward: Quality mode favors visual effects at a conventional 30fps, while Performance mode gives movement and aiming a quicker response. Handheld play reduces the target resolution to 720p, but the smaller screen can make that compromise less conspicuous than it would be on a large television. Dogtown, the district introduced in Phantom Liberty, is more demanding; the same review places Switch 2 below the base PS5 for smoothness in that kind of scene.
Controls that no other version combines
Switch 2 supports Joy-Con 2 motion controls, gyroscope aiming, touch-screen commands and mouse functionality. You can therefore use motion for fine aiming, touch input for selected commands and a mouse when the console is used in a compatible setup. These options are not a promise that every action becomes faster; they are additional control choices for players who prefer them over a traditional stick layout.
CD PROJEKT RED’s game director Adam Badowski described the release as bringing the “immersive world of the dark future” to Nintendo players at home or on the go. The value of the port is precisely that flexibility: it is the only version here designed around both a television and genuinely portable play.
How PS5 compares
Two clear priorities
The PS5 current-generation update offers a 60fps Performance mode with dynamic 4K scaling and a 30fps ray-tracing mode. Performance mode is the natural choice for driving, shooting and rapid camera movement because the higher frame rate reduces perceived input delay. Ray-tracing mode trades that cadence for more advanced lighting effects and reflections.

Dynamic 4K scaling means the console can change its internal rendering resolution to maintain the selected mode; it is not the same as rendering every frame at native 4K. The choice is therefore not “4K versus low resolution,” but a balance between a steadier 60fps presentation and a slower mode with more demanding lighting.
DualSense and audio features
PS5 adds Tempest 3D AudioTech, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. These features can make driving, weapons and environmental effects feel more tactile when you use compatible headphones and a DualSense controller. They do not raise the frame rate or image resolution, so they should be treated as immersion benefits rather than performance upgrades.
For a player who already owns a PS5 and has a library or save there, this is the least disruptive living-room option. It is also the safer recommendation than Switch 2 when your priority is a stable 60fps mode in the base game and expansion on a television.
How Xbox Series X and Series S compare
Series X is the PS5 counterpart
Xbox Series X offers the same official choice between a 60fps Performance mode with dynamic 4K scaling and a 30fps ray-tracing mode. In practical terms, Series X and PS5 belong in the same performance tier: both provide a high-frame-rate mode for responsiveness and a lower-frame-rate mode for ray-traced lighting.
Choose Series X over another console when your existing Xbox purchases, achievements, friends list or controller setup matter. The graphics decision itself is not a reason to expect a radically different result from PS5; the meaningful difference is the surrounding ecosystem and the display or audio equipment you already use.
Series S is a deliberate compromise
Series S has one documented presentation: 30fps at dynamic 1440p. It does not offer the 60fps Performance/ray-tracing split described for Series X. That makes it suitable for a player who accepts a cinematic 30fps experience and wants the smaller Xbox console, but it is a poor fit if smooth driving and combat are your first priority.
Why PS5 Pro has the highest documented console ceiling

PSSR is Sony’s reconstruction technology, while advanced ray tracing increases the cost and quality of lighting effects. The headline “up to 90fps” is conditional, not a fixed frame rate: you need a VRR-capable display, and the actual result can vary by scene. Without a high-frame-rate VRR screen, Ray Tracing Pro falls to its 30fps target and the main advantage of the Pro modes is reduced.

It is not automatically the best value for a 60Hz television; the regular PS5 already supplies a 60fps Performance mode.
What PC offers that consoles cannot
PC is the flexibility-first version. You can choose the graphics card, processor, memory, monitor resolution, ray-tracing level, upscaling method and frame-rate cap. That can produce the highest image quality, but there is no universal PC frame-rate number to quote honestly. A powerful desktop and an entry-level laptop are both “PC,” yet they can deliver very different results.
Check your exact hardware
Before buying for PC, compare the game’s current system requirements with your own GPU and CPU, then account for your target resolution and whether you intend to enable ray tracing. A configuration that is comfortable at 1080p may need different settings at 1440p or 4K. Likewise, a ray-traced preset can require substantially more graphics headroom than a rasterized preset.
PC is the best match if you are willing to tune settings and troubleshoot drivers, updates or frame pacing. It is the least predictable choice if you want a fixed console-like target without adjusting anything.
Which version runs at 60fps?
PS5 and Xbox Series X both provide official 60fps Performance modes. PS5 Pro’s Ray Tracing mode targets 60fps and its Performance mode can reach up to 90fps when VRR is available. Switch 2’s independent review reports 40fps targets rather than 60fps. Xbox Series S is documented at 30fps. PC can exceed or fall below these figures depending on hardware and settings, so a 60fps claim for PC is meaningless without a specified configuration.
Frame-rate targets are not guarantees that every moment is identical. Crowded areas, heavy effects and the Dogtown section can be more demanding. A mode that feels smooth in open streets may show more variation during the busiest encounters.

Which version has the best image quality?
For a fixed console, PS5 Pro has the highest documented ceiling because it combines advanced ray tracing, PSSR and a mode that can use VRR at up to 90fps. PC can surpass it when paired with sufficiently powerful hardware and a high-quality display, but that outcome depends on the configuration you buy and the settings you select.
PS5 and Series X are the balanced choices: their 30fps ray-tracing modes prioritize lighting, while their 60fps modes prioritize motion clarity. Switch 2 is not intended to win a television-based image-quality contest; its advantage is putting the complete game in a portable system while retaining a docked mode.

Does Switch 2 include Phantom Liberty?
Yes. The documented Switch 2 launch package is Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which includes the base game and Phantom Liberty. That is important when comparing first-purchase value: do not compare the Switch 2 Ultimate Edition with a base-game-only listing on another platform without adding the expansion cost to the other package.
The expansion also explains why performance can vary by location. Dogtown is more demanding than many earlier areas, and the independent Switch 2 review reports lower smoothness there than on base PS5.

Official Update 2.3 documentation lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac. It adds vehicles, AutoDrive, Delamain taxis and expanded Photo Mode. The update is free to base-game owners and does not require a new save, so an existing compatible copy remains useful even when you move to a newer update.
Progression and save transfers
An independent review reports that Switch 2 can continue existing PC, PlayStation or Xbox saves through progression sharing. The exact account-linking and transfer steps should be checked in the current account documentation before you begin, because sign-in requirements and platform rules can change. Do not assume that every local save file can be copied directly between systems.

A second purchase is easiest to justify when you want portable play, do not already own Phantom Liberty, or prefer the physical 64GB Switch 2 edition. If you already own the complete game on PS5, Series X or PC and mainly play on a television, the Switch 2 purchase is a convenience and portability decision rather than a graphics upgrade.

Display, audio and accessory requirements
- Switch 2: use handheld mode for portability or dock it for the reported 1080p targets. Motion, gyro, touch and mouse features are optional control methods.
- PS5 and Series X: a 4K television makes the dynamic-4K modes worthwhile, but the consoles can still be used with lower-resolution screens.
- PS5 Pro: a high-frame-rate VRR display is necessary to realize the 40fps Ray Tracing Pro condition and the up-to-90fps Performance ceiling.
- Audio: PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech is most relevant if you use compatible headphones or a surround-capable setup; it is not required to play.
- PC: match the monitor’s resolution and refresh rate to the GPU you actually own. A high-refresh monitor cannot create extra frames that the hardware cannot render.
Accessory prices, stock and subscription-catalog availability change frequently. Treat those as separate purchase checks rather than assuming that a particular controller, headset or service inclusion is permanent.
Choose by player profile
Choose Switch 2 if portability is the deciding factor
Switch 2 is the clear choice for commuting, travel, playing away from the television or keeping one complete edition in a physical format. You accept lower resolution and a lower frame-rate target than the leading home consoles, but gain controls and flexibility unavailable elsewhere.
Choose PS5 if you want the safest all-round console balance
PS5 combines a 60fps mode, a ray-tracing mode, strong controller feedback and 3D audio. It is the sensible default for a new living-room console buyer who does not need the Pro’s VRR-dependent ceiling.

Choose Xbox Series X if your library is on Xbox
Series X delivers the same broad performance choices as PS5. Existing purchases, friends, achievements and accessories can outweigh small platform differences when the underlying 60fps and 30fps modes are comparable.
Choose Xbox Series S only if 30fps is acceptable
Series S is compact and capable of running the game, but its single 30fps dynamic-1440p presentation removes the high-frame-rate option available on Series X. Buy it with that limitation understood.
Choose PS5 Pro if you own the right display
PS5 Pro is for players who can use VRR and care about advanced ray tracing, PSSR and the possibility of up to 90fps. Without a compatible high-refresh display, much of its documented advantage is unavailable.
Choose PC if you want to tune everything
PC is the enthusiast option. It gives you the broadest settings range and the possibility of the highest output, but you must verify hardware, choose settings and accept that performance is configuration-specific.

Buy Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Switch 2 for the complete base-game-and-expansion package in a portable format, especially if the 64GB physical game card and alternative controls appeal to you. Buy PS5 or Xbox Series X for a smoother 60fps living-room mode without moving to premium hardware. Choose PS5 Pro when you have a VRR display and want the strongest documented console combination of ray tracing and frame-rate headroom. Choose PC when adjustable settings and hardware flexibility matter more than a fixed target.
