Cyberpunk 2077 is a single-player role-playing game. PlayStation’s current FAQ estimates 20–30 hours for one storyline, although optional quests, multiple endings and exploration can extend a playthrough to hundreds of hours. The game is currently listed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac. PS4 and Xbox One versions still run, but they no longer receive new content updates. Phantom Liberty is optional for the base game and its free updates, but the expansion requires the base game and current-generation hardware or PC support.

How long does Cyberpunk 2077 take to beat?
One main storyline: 20–30 hours
PlayStation’s official Cyberpunk 2077 FAQ says that completing one storyline takes an average of 20 to 30 hours. That is the clearest published estimate for a straightforward story-focused playthrough. It should not be read as a guaranteed campaign length: your choices, pace, difficulty, exploration and time spent in optional activities all affect the result.
Why the total can reach hundreds of hours
The same PlayStation FAQ notes that Cyberpunk 2077 has multiple endings and many optional discoveries, making it possible to spend hundreds of hours building V’s story in Night City. A player who follows only the critical path may finish near the lower estimate, while someone who completes side jobs, explores the city, experiments with builds and sees different endings will need substantially longer.
- Story-focused run: use the 20–30-hour estimate as a rough average for one storyline.
- Story plus side content: allow considerably more time because optional jobs and discoveries are not included in a narrow main-path estimate.
- Multiple playthroughs: different choices and endings can justify starting again rather than trying to see everything in one save.
- Completionist planning: no official completionist total is published, so any exact number you see is a player estimate rather than a CD PROJEKT RED or PlayStation guarantee.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer?
Treat Cyberpunk 2077 as a single-player RPG. The official PlayStation product listing specifies 1 player. The reviewed official sources do not document a released co-op mode, competitive mode or online campaign, so you should not buy it expecting shared Night City sessions with friends.

Online connectivity may still be relevant to your platform for downloading the game, patches or account-related services, but that does not turn the campaign into multiplayer. The player-count label describes the supported game mode: one person controls the character and progresses through the story.
What platforms is Cyberpunk 2077 on now?
CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.3 FAQ lists these current platforms:
- Xbox Series X|S
- PlayStation 5
- PC
- Nintendo Switch 2
- Mac
Update 2.3 is described as a free update for owners of the base game, including owners who do not have Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition. The platform list and update eligibility are separate questions: owning the base game does not make every version eligible for every future feature, particularly on older consoles.

Can you play Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 or Xbox One?
Older consoles still run the game, with a support ceiling
PS4 and Xbox One versions continue to work, but CD PROJEKT RED’s previous-generation support notice says that after Patch 1.6, new content updates and improvements are exclusive to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The older versions therefore do not receive the later expansion or subsequent new content.

PS4’s last patch and the PS5 requirement
The current PlayStation product page identifies November 8, 2022 as the last PS4 patch date. It also states that PS5 is required for later patches and for Phantom Liberty. In practical terms, a PS4 copy is usable as an older, fixed version, but it is not a route to the current update track or the expansion.
What this means before you buy
- Choose PS5, Xbox Series X|S or a supported PC if you want Update 2.3-era updates and Phantom Liberty.
- Choose a PS4 or Xbox One copy only if you accept the older feature set and do not need the expansion or later content.
- Check the exact store listing for your console generation; a purchase on one generation does not automatically remove the technical limits of the other.
Do you need Phantom Liberty to play Cyberpunk 2077?
The base game works without the expansion
No. Phantom Liberty is optional for the base campaign and for free base-game updates such as Update 2.3. You can play Cyberpunk 2077’s original story without buying the expansion.
What Phantom Liberty adds
Phantom Liberty is a separate expansion centered on the Dogtown story and its additional content. If you want that storyline and the expansion missions, you must purchase Phantom Liberty or a package that includes it. The expansion launched on September 26, 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and GeForce Now.

No. CD PROJEKT RED’s launch announcement states that the base game is required. Phantom Liberty is an expansion, not a standalone release. A buyer who owns only the expansion still needs a compatible copy of Cyberpunk 2077 to launch and play its content.

The best purchase also depends on the platform generation and whether you already own the base game. Verify regional store availability and the edition name before checkout, because an Ultimate Edition listing and a standalone expansion listing solve different ownership situations.

CD PROJEKT RED’s support table applies to Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty. These requirements can change with later patches, so treat them as the published baseline for that update and expansion context rather than a promise about every future build.

How to interpret the table
- SSD is part of the stated requirement: plan for 70 GB of solid-state storage rather than assuming a hard drive is equivalent.
- Minimum is a low-preset target: the minimum specification is aimed at 1080p and 30 FPS on Low, not 60 FPS on High.
- Recommended is not ray tracing: both rows are explicitly non-ray-tracing targets. Enabling ray-traced effects requires checking the separate ray-tracing specifications for your chosen settings.
- RAM is 12 GB in both rows: the table lists the same capacity for minimum and recommended configurations, while the processor and graphics targets rise substantially for 60 FPS on High.
- Use the exact GPU model and VRAM: a graphics card with a similar name is not automatically equivalent, especially when the table specifies 6GB, 8GB or a particular architecture.
PC readiness checklist
- Confirm that your operating system is 64-bit Windows 10 or a supported newer configuration for your storefront and build.
- Compare your CPU model with the minimum or recommended processor row, not just its advertised clock speed.
- Check the exact GPU model and dedicated memory against the listed card and VRAM targets.
- Reserve at least 70 GB on an SSD before installation; leave additional free space for patches and temporary files.
- Choose your intended target first: 1080p/30 Low is the minimum target, while 1080p/60 High is the recommended non-ray-tracing target.
- If you intend to use ray tracing, consult the applicable ray-tracing requirements rather than treating the non-ray-tracing table as sufficient.
Was there a free trial?
CD PROJEKT RED’s 2024 FAQ documented a five-hour free trial on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It covered the base game only, and progress could carry into a later purchase. Availability was tied to that offer and its stated platforms; do not assume the trial is permanent or available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2 or Mac without a current store listing confirming it.

Choosing the right version
Pick the base game when
- You want the original Night City campaign and do not need Dogtown or Phantom Liberty missions.
- You are buying for a supported platform and prefer to decide on the expansion later.
- You are playing an older PS4 or Xbox One version and understand that it is outside the later content-update track.
Pick Phantom Liberty when
- You already own the base game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S or a PC that meets the requirements.
- You specifically want the Dogtown story and expansion content.
- You have confirmed that your edition and platform are compatible; the expansion cannot be added to an unsupported PS4 or Xbox One setup.
Pick the Ultimate Edition when
- You are a new buyer who wants both the original game and Phantom Liberty in one package.
- You want the simplest ownership check rather than matching a separate base-game license with an expansion license.
- You have already confirmed that your console generation or PC configuration supports the edition’s content.
Common purchase and compatibility mistakes
Buying the expansion as if it were standalone
Phantom Liberty does not replace the base game. Confirm that your account owns Cyberpunk 2077 itself, or choose a bundle that includes both.

Assuming a PS4 copy receives PS5-era updates
The last PS4 patch is dated November 8, 2022, and later patches and Phantom Liberty require PS5 according to the current PlayStation page. Check the version shown in your library before expecting Update 2.3-era features.
Reading “20–30 hours” as a total completion time
That figure describes one storyline on average. Side activities, exploration and multiple endings are why PlayStation also says a player can spend hundreds of hours in Night City.
Expecting multiplayer because the game has online services
The official listing says “1 player.” Downloading patches or using a platform account does not indicate a co-op or competitive mode.
Matching a PC only to the minimum row for a high-settings goal
The minimum row targets 1080p at 30 FPS on Low. For 1080p at 60 FPS on High without ray tracing, compare your system with the recommended processor and graphics rows instead.
