Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, but the current version and Phantom Liberty expansion are limited to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. PS4 and Xbox One remain playable with the base game, while newer content updates ended after the 1.6 generation. For a first playthrough, complete most of the main campaign, start Phantom Liberty when it becomes available, finish the expansion before the main story’s final point of no return, and then return for remaining endgame content.
Which platforms support Cyberpunk 2077?
The answer depends on whether you mean the original base game or the current version with Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty. The base game still runs on last-generation consoles, but those versions no longer receive the new systems, balance changes, or expansion content introduced for current-generation hardware and PC.
| Platform | Base game | Phantom Liberty | Current updates |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC | Yes | Yes | Update 2.0-era requirements apply |
| PlayStation 5 | Yes | Yes | Current patches supported |
| Xbox Series X|S | Yes | Yes | Current patches supported |
| PlayStation 4 | Yes | No | Last patch dated November 8, 2022 |
| Xbox One | Yes | No | Technical support remains, but no new content updates |
PC
Phantom Liberty launched on PC through Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and GeForce Now. PC is the most flexible option because you can choose resolution, frame-rate targets, graphics settings, and ray tracing, provided your hardware meets the relevant tier. The base game and expansion use the current PC requirements from Update 2.0 onward.

PlayStation
The base game is listed for both PS4 and PS5. However, the PS4 version’s final patch was released on November 8, 2022. PS5 is required for later patches and for Phantom Liberty. The PlayStation store lists a PS5 Ultimate Edition as well as a separate Phantom Liberty add-on, so an existing PS5 owner can buy only the expansion when appropriate.

Xbox
Xbox Series X|S supports the current game, all later patches, and Phantom Liberty. Xbox One remains playable and receives technical support, but CD PROJEKT RED stopped new content updates for that generation after Patch 1.6. Phantom Liberty was not released for Xbox One.
What about Battle.net?
On September 14, 2026, CD PROJEKT RED announced plans to bring the base game, Phantom Liberty, and the Ultimate Edition to Battle.net later in 2026. The announcement did not provide an exact launch day. Treat Battle.net availability as date-sensitive and check the storefront before buying or moving a PC library.
Why PS4 and Xbox One do not have Phantom Liberty
Phantom Liberty was designed for the current technical baseline represented by PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The last-generation versions continue to provide the original campaign, but they are frozen at the older content line. That means a PS4 or Xbox One owner should not expect to unlock Dogtown, use the Relic skill tree, or receive the systems and items associated with the expansion by installing another patch.

- THE ULTIMATE CYBERPUNK 2077 EXPERIENCE - Includes the critically acclaimed spy thriller expansion Phantom Liberty
- CREATE YOUR OWN CYBERPUNK
- Explore the city of the future – you decide when you want to go where and how to get there
- Decide how the story ends – your choices in the main game as well as in the spy thriller adventure Phantom Liberty lead to a complex web of consequences
There is also a practical difference in how to interpret “support.” Xbox One can remain playable with technical assistance, but support does not mean new missions, items, or major gameplay updates. On PS4, the November 8, 2022 patch is the final update identified for that version, and later patches require PS5.
What does Phantom Liberty add?
Phantom Liberty is an action-focused spy-thriller expansion set in Dogtown, a new district within Night City. Its story introduces Solomon Reed and a separate chain of missions that intersects with the wider campaign. It is not merely a cosmetic pack or a short side activity.
- A new Dogtown district to explore.
- A spy-thriller story featuring Solomon Reed.
- New gigs and side quests.
- Additional weapons, vehicles, clothing, and cyberware.
- New boss encounters, airdrops, and courier missions.
- A Relic skill tree tied to the expansion’s systems.
- More than 100 new items, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s 2023 description.
The expansion is integrated into the campaign rather than being a completely isolated post-game mode. Your choices, relationships, equipment, and accumulated experience can therefore affect how naturally it fits into a first playthrough.

Do you need to finish Cyberpunk 2077 before Phantom Liberty?
No. You do not need to finish the entire base campaign first. The recommended approach is to begin the original campaign, progress until Phantom Liberty’s story becomes available, and then enter the expansion before the base game’s final point of no return. This gives you the character and choice context established by the opening campaign without forcing you to postpone the expansion until every ending-related mission is complete.
A menu option can create a levelled character for a quicker start. That option is useful if you have already played the campaign or want to reach Dogtown quickly, but it skips earlier story progression. A first-time player who wants the full narrative buildup should start normally instead of using the shortcut.
The best spoiler-light play order
- Start the base Cyberpunk 2077 campaign. Complete the opening chapters and establish your character, allies, equipment, and major relationships.
- Continue until Phantom Liberty becomes available. The expansion’s entry point appears during normal campaign progression. You do not need to rush directly to it or complete every optional activity first.
- Enter Dogtown and play Phantom Liberty. Treat the expansion as a substantial middle-to-late campaign arc. Its missions, characters, and new systems make more sense once you have some familiarity with Night City.
- Finish the expansion before the main story’s final point of no return. This preserves access to the expansion’s characters and choices while you can still return to ordinary campaign activities.
- Complete the base game’s final sequence when ready. The game handles its ending structure separately, so you can make a deliberate save before committing to the final point.
- Return for remaining endgame activities. After resolving the main story and expansion content, use your remaining save or post-ending access to finish side quests, gigs, upgrades, and exploration you left incomplete.
Why this order works
Playing Phantom Liberty after the opening campaign gives its cast and conflicts more context than a levelled-character shortcut, while placing it before the final point of no return avoids treating the expansion as an afterthought. It also lets you use the expansion’s weapons, vehicles, cyberware, and Relic progression during the remaining portion of the game.

When the shortcut makes sense
The levelled-character option is appropriate for a returning player who has already seen the early story, wants to replay Phantom Liberty, or is starting on a different platform and does not want to repeat the opening hours. It is less suitable for a first-time player because it removes the progression that explains many of the campaign’s relationships and decisions.
Can your PC run Cyberpunk 2077 with Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty?
Use the publisher’s Update 2.0 requirements for both the base game and Phantom Liberty. The non-ray-tracing minimum targets 1080p at 30 frames per second; the recommended tier targets 1080p at 60 frames per second. These are targets, not guarantees for every combination of settings, background software, or driver version.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum, 1080p/30, no ray tracing | 64-bit Windows 10; Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, Radeon RX 580 8GB, or Intel Arc A380 | 12GB RAM | 70GB SSD |
| Recommended, 1080p/60, no ray tracing | Intel Core i7-12700 or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | GeForce RTX 2060 Super, Radeon RX 5700 XT, or Intel Arc A770 | 16GB RAM | 70GB SSD |
How to interpret the requirements
- Windows: The listed minimum requires 64-bit Windows 10. A 32-bit installation does not meet the stated requirement.
- Processor: The recommended CPU is substantially newer than the minimum. A computer with a qualifying graphics card can still struggle if the processor, cooling, or memory bandwidth limits busy city scenes.
- Graphics memory: The minimum GPU entries specify 6GB for the GTX 1060 and 8GB for the RX 580. Matching the model name while having a different memory variant can produce a different result.
- SSD storage: The stated 70GB capacity is for an SSD. An SSD reduces loading friction and is part of the publisher’s current target rather than an optional luxury.
- Ray tracing: Ray-tracing tiers require stronger graphics hardware, more memory, and an SSD or NVMe drive than the non-ray-traced minimum. The cited requirements do not establish one universal ray-tracing frame-rate target, so choose the specific ray-tracing tier that matches your resolution and performance goal.
Checking a borderline PC
- Confirm that Windows is 64-bit and that the game drive has at least 70GB free on an SSD.
- Identify the exact CPU and GPU models, including GPU memory, rather than relying on a family name such as “RTX” or “Ryzen 7.”
- Compare both components with the minimum or recommended row. Meeting only the GPU requirement does not make a system recommended if the CPU or RAM falls short.
- Start without ray tracing and use the game’s performance overlay or an external frame counter to verify whether your chosen resolution and frame-rate target are stable.
- If performance is inconsistent, reduce expensive effects and crowd or traffic settings before assuming that a new GPU alone will solve a CPU-limited scene.
Which edition should you buy?
| Situation | Most suitable choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| New player on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S | Ultimate Edition, if priced appropriately in your store | Bundles the base game and Phantom Liberty in one purchase. |
| New PC player | Base game plus Phantom Liberty, or the Ultimate Edition where offered | Both routes provide the current PC experience; compare the total price and preferred storefront. |
| Existing owner of the base game on a supported platform | Phantom Liberty expansion | Buying the add-on avoids paying for a second copy of the campaign. |
| PS4 or Xbox One owner | Base game only on that hardware, or move to a supported platform for the expansion | Phantom Liberty and current-generation updates are unavailable on those consoles. |
The Ultimate Edition bundles Cyberpunk 2077 with Phantom Liberty. On PS5, the store presents an Ultimate Edition and a separate expansion listing. Existing owners should compare the add-on price with the complete edition rather than assuming the bundle is automatically better value. Prices, stock, disc-versus-download format, and regional listings change, so verify those details at the storefront you intend to use.

Platform choice: a practical decision guide
Choose PC if settings flexibility matters
PC lets you select graphics presets, resolution, frame rate, and ray tracing, and it supports several storefronts plus GeForce Now cloud delivery. The trade-off is that you must check hardware, driver support, storage, and settings yourself.
Choose PS5 for a straightforward console setup
PS5 is the PlayStation route to Phantom Liberty and later patches. It avoids PC configuration work, but you are tied to the console’s performance modes and the availability of the edition or add-on in your regional store.
Choose Xbox Series X|S for current Xbox support
Series X|S provides the current Xbox version and expansion access. Xbox One owners who want Phantom Liberty must move to a supported current-generation platform; installing the last-generation copy will not unlock it.

Last-generation consoles remain valid for playing the original campaign, but they are not a route to Update 2.0-era content or Phantom Liberty. If new missions, current systems, and the expansion are priorities, plan the platform change before buying additional content.
Quick Recap
Common purchasing and play-order mistakes
- Buying Phantom Liberty for PS4 or Xbox One: The expansion is not available on those platforms. Confirm the console generation before checkout.
- Assuming technical support means new content: Xbox One support does not include new expansion or major content updates.
- Starting the expansion immediately with no campaign context: A levelled character is available, but a normal campaign start provides more narrative grounding.
- Waiting until after the final point of no return: The safer spoiler-light order is to play Phantom Liberty before that point.
- Using old PC requirements: Update 2.0 changed the applicable baseline. Compare your PC with the current 1080p/30 or 1080p/60 rows, not an older minimum copied from an earlier release.
- Assuming every RTX or Ryzen system is equivalent: Exact CPU model, GPU memory, system RAM, storage type, resolution, and ray tracing settings all affect the result.
- Expecting a fixed Battle.net date: The September 14, 2026 announcement says later in 2026 but does not specify a day.
