Verdict: CyberGhost is a credible everyday VPN choice if you value a long refund window and a low introductory price, but the attractive monthly figure is promotional and renews later at the standard rate. Independent testing found a modest average speed loss and broad, though incomplete, streaming access. NoSpy adds provider-controlled Romanian infrastructure rather than a demonstrated speed advantage.

Your result will vary with your normal connection, distance to the server, route congestion, server load and protocol. Treat the figures below as Gizmodo’s October 2026 test results, not a guarantee for your line.

CyberGhost VPN 2026: the key findings

  • Best reason to buy: the US page checked October 13, 2026 showed a 45-day refund period on six- and 26-month offers, with a displayed introductory equivalent as low as $2.19 per month.
  • Main price warning: longer introductory subscriptions renew automatically at the standard rate. The renewal amount appears at checkout and can change, so the first-term monthly equivalent is not a permanent price.
  • Independent speed result: Gizmodo measured a 13.3% average speed drop on a 190 Mbps connection and a 39 ms UK ping across its test setup.
  • Streaming result: Gizmodo reported access to 11 of 14 services. That is a strong pass rate, not a promise that every library, country or service will work every time.
  • NoSpy’s meaningful difference: CyberGhost says these are in-house Romanian servers accessible to its own staff. Gizmodo found identical performance to standard servers in its comparison.
  • Capacity limit: one subscription allows seven simultaneous connections. A router can count as one connection for devices behind it, but compatibility with any particular router model is not established here.

For a buyer who wants a low first-term cost and a long period to request a refund, CyberGhost is worth considering. If you need a guaranteed streaming catalog, a permanent low price or more than seven direct device connections, those limitations matter more than the headline discount.

Current US prices, billing and refunds

The following snapshot comes from CyberGhost’s official US privacy-tools page checked October 13, 2026. Promotional pages and checkout terms can change; confirm the final amount before paying.

Term shown Displayed rate How you are charged Money-back period
One month $12.99 per month Monthly billing 14 days
Six months $6.99 per month $41.94 every six months 45 days
26 months $2.19 per month $56.94 for the first 26 months, then yearly billing 45 days

See the official US plan page for the displayed offers and the plan-and-offer terms for renewal and refund conditions.

What the low monthly number actually means

The $2.19 figure is an arithmetic equivalent of the first $56.94 payment over 26 months. It is not a monthly subscription that you can cancel after paying one month. You commit the first-term amount at checkout, and the support documentation says longer offers renew automatically at the standard rate after the introductory period. The exact renewal price and terms are presented at checkout, so record them before confirming payment and set a calendar reminder if you do not intend to continue.

A separate NoSpy-page price creates a discrepancy

CyberGhost’s NoSpy landing page displayed a different 26-month promotion when crawled: $1.99 per month, or $51.74 for the first 26 months. The privacy-tools page displayed $2.19 per month and $56.94. These are conflicting snapshots, not prices to average together. Use the amount shown in your own checkout as authoritative.

Refund rules and store purchases

The one-month option has a 14-day money-back guarantee; six- and 26-month plans show 45 days. CyberGhost’s support page says the guarantee does not apply to purchases made through Google Play, Apple’s App Store or Amazon’s Appstore. Buying through a mobile store therefore changes the protection described on the direct plan page. Keep your order confirmation and submit any request within the applicable period.

How fast is CyberGhost?

The most useful independent numbers in the available evidence come from Gizmodo’s October 2026 review. Its team used a 190 Mbps connection, connected to servers in the United Kingdom, United States and Japan, and reported a 13.3% average speed drop. It also recorded a 39 ms ping to the UK server.

Measure Gizmodo result How to interpret it
Connection used 190 Mbps A single reviewer baseline, not a minimum requirement
Average speed change 13.3% drop Moderate loss in that test environment
UK latency 39 ms ping Useful for that route; latency elsewhere can differ
Locations tested UK, US and Japan Three destinations do not represent every server or route

These are reviewer measurements, not provider-published guarantees. A VPN adds encryption and a network hop. Your distance from the chosen server, your internet provider’s route, congestion, local Wi-Fi, server load and selected protocol can all move the result substantially. A nearby server may feel faster than a distant one even when the distant location is less busy.

What the result means for common tasks

  • Web browsing and video calls: a 13.3% average reduction in the cited test leaves substantial headroom on a fast connection, while the 39 ms UK ping suggests responsive interaction on that route.
  • 4K video: sustained throughput depends on your baseline and the service’s own requirements. The test does not establish a universal 4K guarantee.
  • Online games: ping is route-specific. A 39 ms UK result should not be generalized to another country, game server or time of day.
  • Large downloads: expect the VPN to be fastest when you choose a nearby, lightly loaded server and compare it with your unprotected baseline.

A practical speed check after purchase

  1. Run a speed test without the VPN at the same time of day you normally use the connection. Record download, upload and latency.
  2. Connect to the nearest available CyberGhost location and repeat the test.
  3. Test the country you actually need for work or streaming, then test a second nearby location.
  4. If performance is poor, disconnect and reconnect, switch to another server in the same country and try the app’s available protocol options.
  5. Compare several times rather than relying on one result; congestion and routing change during the day.

This process tells you whether the service works on your line. It does not turn one household’s result into a product-wide speed claim.

Streaming: good coverage with no universal guarantee

Gizmodo tried 14 streaming services and reported successful access to 11. That is a broad pass rate, but three services failed in that test and the result can change when a platform blocks an address range or when you select a different server.

Why a pass rate is not a catalog promise

Streaming companies continuously identify and restrict VPN endpoints. A service can work in one country and fail in another, or work on one server today and fail on the same service tomorrow. Your account region, device, app, browser cookies and DNS behavior can also affect the result. Do not buy a long plan solely because one test reached a particular library.

How to troubleshoot a failed stream

  1. Close the streaming app or browser completely so it discards the previous session.
  2. Connect to a different server in the target country.
  3. Clear site cookies or use a private browser window, then sign in again.
  4. Check that your device is not using a separate DNS or location service that conflicts with the VPN.
  5. If several servers fail, wait and retry later; a temporary block is different from a permanent service limitation.

The review methodology covered services such as Netflix libraries in multiple countries, Disney+, Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, 10Play, 9Now and Channel 4, but the available evidence does not provide a CyberGhost-specific numeric result for each one. Treat the 11-of-14 figure as the complete independent outcome rather than assuming every named service passed.

NoSpy servers: control, not extra speed

CyberGhost describes NoSpy as premium servers in Romania that are physically accessible to its internal staff. The company contrasts this with colocated infrastructure, where a data-center operator may control the facility. The distinction is about who can access and manage the hardware, not about a different encryption standard proven by the cited evidence.

Gizmodo compared NoSpy’s Bucharest results with standard servers and found them identical in its test. That means this evidence does not support calling NoSpy faster. Choose NoSpy if the provider’s stated operational control is important to your threat model; do not pay for it expecting a measurable throughput boost.

What NoSpy can and cannot establish

  • Established by CyberGhost’s description: the servers are in Romania, operated in-house and accessible to internal staff.
  • Observed by Gizmodo: no performance difference from standard servers in its comparison.
  • Not established: that NoSpy prevents every data-center, endpoint, legal or operational risk, or that it will always use a faster route.

Privacy evidence and audit scope

The 2025 assurance engagement announced in 2026

In a February 24, 2026 announcement, CyberGhost said Deloitte Audit Romania performed its third independent review in 2025 under ISAE 3000 (Revised). The announced scope covered the VPN server network, configuration and change management, incident-response controls and the token-based system used for dedicated IPs. Read the audit announcement and linked assurance report for the provider’s stated scope and conclusion.

An assurance engagement with that scope is evidence about the controls examined during the engagement period. It is not a blanket finding about every possible threat, every product feature or how systems will operate indefinitely. Readers with a high-risk use case should inspect the underlying report rather than relying on the announcement alone.

Logging and infrastructure statements

CyberGhost says it does not keep activity or connection logs and describes its infrastructure as RAM-only. Those are company statements in its Q2 2026 transparency report; they should be read alongside the audit scope and your own threat model. A VPN can reduce exposure to a local network or internet provider, but it cannot make an endpoint, account or browser universally anonymous.

What the Q2 2026 transparency figures mean

The report, last updated August 6, 2026, lists 64,006 DMCA notices and five police requests received from April through June 2026. CyberGhost explicitly cautions:

“These numbers represent notices received. They shouldn’t be read as a count of confirmed copyright infringements, individual users, or separate incidents.”

Those figures therefore describe incoming notices and requests, not a count of customers or proven activity. The report’s methodology caveat is essential when comparing transparency statistics.

Connections, devices and router use

CyberGhost permits seven simultaneous connections on one subscription. That covers a household’s common combination of phones, computers and a tablet, but it is lower than an unlimited-device policy. A connection is counted per active device unless you use a compatible router.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Gizmodo notes that installing the VPN on a router counts as one connection and can cover devices behind that router. No compatibility information for a particular router model, firmware version or internet provider is established here. Before buying hardware, verify CyberGhost’s current router instructions and your model’s support status.

When seven connections are enough

  • One or two people with a few personal devices can usually stay within the allowance by disconnecting devices that are not in use.
  • A family with many phones, televisions, consoles and smart-home devices may reach the limit quickly if each device connects separately.
  • A router installation can simplify coverage for a household, but it requires more setup and may apply the VPN to devices that do not need it.

Choosing the right term

Choose one month when flexibility matters most

The $12.99 monthly plan has the shortest commitment and a 14-day refund period. Its effective cost is much higher than the longer offers, but it lets you test your own routes, streaming needs and device mix without paying a two-year introductory amount.

Choose six months for a middle ground

The six-month offer is displayed as $6.99 per month and bills $41.94 every six months, with a 45-day guarantee. It lowers the monthly equivalent while avoiding the 26-month upfront payment. It still renews automatically under the provider’s standard-rate terms.

Choose 26 months only after checking renewal

The 26-month privacy-tools offer bills $56.94 for the first term and displays $2.19 per month. It is the lowest displayed equivalent in that snapshot and has a 45-day guarantee, but it ties up the largest first payment and renews yearly afterward. The conflicting NoSpy-page promotion demonstrates why you should rely on your checkout screen, save the renewal amount and decide whether the long commitment fits your use.

How to buy and evaluate CyberGhost safely

  1. Open the official US plan page and verify that the currency, term and promotional amount match your expectations.
  2. At checkout, read the first charge, the renewal interval, the standard renewal price and the refund deadline.
  3. Confirm whether you are buying directly or through an app store, because store purchases may not receive the stated direct-purchase guarantee.
  4. Install the app on one or two devices first and test a nearby server, your required country and the services you actually use.
  5. Measure speed against an unprotected baseline at more than one time of day.
  6. Decide whether seven direct connections are sufficient; investigate router support only if you need broader household coverage.
  7. Keep the receipt and set a reminder before the introductory term ends so an unwanted renewal does not surprise you.

CyberGhost VPN pros and limitations

Advantages Limitations and cautions
45-day refund window on six- and 26-month direct offers One-month plan has only a 14-day guarantee
Low displayed first-term equivalent on the long plan Introductory offers renew at the standard rate; renewal price can change
13.3% average speed drop in Gizmodo’s 190 Mbps test That result depends on route, server, protocol and baseline connection
11 of 14 streaming services unblocked in the cited review Streaming access is not universal or permanent
NoSpy offers provider-described in-house Romanian infrastructure Independent testing found no speed advantage over standard servers
Audit announcement and quarterly transparency reporting Audit scope and company statements do not prove protection from every threat
Router installation can count as one connection for covered devices Seven simultaneous direct connections; specific router compatibility is not established

Who should buy CyberGhost in 2026?

A good fit

  • US users who want a conventional VPN for browsing, travel Wi-Fi and occasional streaming.
  • People who value a long direct-purchase refund period and are comfortable monitoring renewal terms.
  • Households that can stay within seven simultaneous connections or are willing to configure a supported router.
  • Privacy-conscious buyers who view in-house server control and published assurance work as useful evidence, while understanding its limits.

Look elsewhere or choose a shorter term if

  • You require a specific streaming catalog to work continuously and cannot tolerate occasional server blocks.
  • You need a permanent low monthly price rather than an introductory offer that renews later.
  • You need more than seven direct device connections and do not want router configuration.
  • Your threat model requires guarantees broader than the announced audit scope, vendor logging statements and transparency reports provide.

Bottom line

CyberGhost’s 2026 US offer is compelling mainly because of its long refund period and low first-term equivalent, not because $2.19 is a permanent monthly rate. Gizmodo’s independent test found a respectable 13.3% average speed reduction, 39 ms UK latency and 11 successful streams out of 14, while NoSpy delivered operational control without a measured speed improvement. Buy the shortest term that matches your uncertainty, verify the renewal amount at checkout and judge the service on your own routes and streaming accounts during the refund window.
