Inventory Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows and Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) separately, then install the applicable vendor updates. Veeam lists Agent for Windows 13.0.3.1220 as the version that fixes CVE-2026-32996; its VBR 13 advisory identifies build 13.0.2.29 as resolving the vulnerabilities covered there. These are different product-version references, and updating VBR does not establish that every standalone or managed Agent has also been updated.
What CVE-2026-32996 is—and what it is not
Veeam describes CVE-2026-32996 as a vulnerability in Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows that allows local privilege escalation. It rates the issue High and assigns a CVSS v4.0 score of 7.3. This is a local attack vector, not a report of remote unauthenticated access. Veeam’s published vector is AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N: it indicates a local attack, low complexity, attack requirements present, low privileges required, no user interaction, and potentially high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts on the vulnerable system. Which version fixes it?
Check the installed component before using a version number as your pass/fail test. The Agent’s security-fix history and VBR’s advisory refer to separate components and releases.

Veeam’s release information dates VBR 13.0.2.29 to May 27, 2026, associates CVE-2026-32996 with that release, and later lists Agent for Windows 13.0.3.1220 in the 13.0.3 release information. KB4738

How to verify and remediate your deployment
- Inventory each component. Record the installed version of Veeam Backup & Replication and of each Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows deployment, including standalone Agents. Do not treat the backup server’s version as proof of an Agent’s version.
- Compare the versions against the matching vendor entry. For Agent for Windows, consult the fix history at KB3108; for VBR 13, consult KB4852. The Agent entry identifies 13.0.3.1220, while the VBR advisory identifies build 13.0.2.29.
- Apply the appropriate Veeam update to each component. Follow the vendor’s update path for your deployment rather than assuming a VBR update automatically updates all Agents.
- Verify installed versions after updating. Recheck the server and Agent inventories independently and confirm each has reached the applicable fixed version.
The reviewed vendor material does not establish the affected version range for every older Windows Agent release independently of the VBR 13 advisory. If you run an Agent release outside the listed fixed version, consult Veeam’s current product-specific guidance rather than inferring that it is either affected or safe.
What is known about exploitation?
The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security’s AV26-513, issued May 27, 2026 and updated September 21, 2026, says: “Open-source reporting indicates that CVE-2026-32996 is being exploited in the wild.” This is an attributed report of open-source indications, not a verified victim count, prevalence estimate, confirmed campaign description, or threat-actor attribution. Veeam warns that after a vulnerability and its patch are disclosed, attackers may try to reverse-engineer the patch to target unpatched deployments. That warning reinforces the value of prompt version verification and updating; it is not evidence of a particular exploit method for this CVE. Veeam KB4852

- The reviewed vendor and government material does not describe the vulnerability’s underlying exploit mechanics.
- It does not establish proof-of-concept availability, incident scale, or a named threat actor.
- It does not establish that every older Windows Agent release is affected simply because the VBR advisory covers VBR 13.0.1.2067 and earlier version 13 builds.
