Hogan Lovells Cadwalader lawyers have adopted Harvey in three practice groups and built custom agents for Knowledge Management, Capital Markets and International Arbitration, according to a report published October 16, 2026. The rollout is part of the newly merged firm’s wider artificial-intelligence strategy, which also includes an AI governance board, agreements involving Harvey and Legora, and plans for proprietary client solutions.
What Hogan Lovells Cadwalader is using Harvey for
The reported deployment covers the firm’s Corporate & Finance, Litigation & Arbitration, and Regulatory/IP practice groups. Lawyers in those groups worked with Harvey to create agents tailored to internal legal work rather than relying only on general-purpose chat interactions.
The report names three custom-agent areas:

The lawyers also collaborated on playbooks. That matters because a playbook can encode a firm’s preferred sequence of checks, drafting conventions, escalation rules and source materials, while an agent can apply those instructions repeatedly. The available announcement does not say whether these agents are client-facing, which document-management systems they connect to, or how human approval is enforced before work reaches a client.

The practice-group rollout sits inside a new global firm
Hogan Lovells Cadwalader launched on July 1, 2026, after Hogan Lovells and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft combined. The firm said the merged organization has more than 3,200 lawyers across the Americas, EMEA and APAC, more than 900 partners, revenue of more than $3.6 billion and a presence in more than 18 countries.

The firm also said it would continue investing in artificial intelligence and other tools to support complex cross-border work. In that setting, agents grounded in shared knowledge and practice playbooks could help standardize work across offices, but the public information does not establish that the three named agents are deployed uniformly in every region.
How Harvey Agent Builder is intended to work
Harvey’s May 5, 2026 product announcement described Agent Builder as an early-access tool for creating agents around a firm’s own knowledge, processes and ways of working. Harvey said more than 500 prebuilt use-case agents were live at that point, covering common legal workflows, while firms could tailor additional agents to their internal methods.

Harvey Chief Product Officer Anique Drumright said, “Our agents aren’t designed by prompt engineers. They’re designed by lawyers who’ve done the work these agents handle.” That positioning matches the Hogan Lovells Cadwalader rollout: the named agents are organized around recognizable legal functions and were developed with lawyers rather than presented as generic software templates.
Harvey also says its agents are built by and for lawyers and tested against evaluation benchmarks for accuracy and relevance. That is a vendor statement. The announcement does not publish the benchmark design, test sets, error rates, independent validation or results for the Hogan Lovells Cadwalader agents, so those claims should not be treated as independently verified performance evidence.

What Harvey’s adoption figures show—and do not show
Harvey reported that legal teams had created more than 25,000 custom agents and that its platform was being used by more than 100,000 lawyers across 1,500 organizations. Those are self-reported vendor figures from 2026, not an independently audited census. They indicate the scale Harvey claims for configurable legal agents, but they do not reveal how many agents are in active production, how often they are used, or what proportion receive human review.
Harvey CEO Winston Weinberg described the shift by saying, “The legal industry is now well past AI as an assistant and officially in the era of legal agents.” The Hogan Lovells Cadwalader announcement is an example of that shift from individual prompting toward repeatable, practice-specific workflows. It is not, by itself, evidence that autonomous decision-making has replaced lawyer responsibility.

Governance, leadership and the role of Legora
The October 16 report said the firm unveiled a firmwide AI strategy and governance structure alongside the rollout. It described agreements involving Harvey and Legora, proprietary client solutions, and an AI Board. According to the report, the board will assess ideas from practice groups and sectors, decide whether a solution should be built internally or sourced from a vendor, allocate resources and oversee deployment.

Is Hogan Lovells Cadwalader using Harvey or Legora?
The named practice-group deployment and custom agents are attributed to Harvey. Legora appears in the reported broader AI strategy as part of an agreement, but the available information does not specify which workflows, offices or products are covered by that agreement. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe the three announced custom agents as Legora agents or to infer that one platform has replaced the other.
Why this is significant for legal AI adoption
The important change is organizational, not simply technical. The firm is assigning AI work to established practice groups, capturing expertise in reusable playbooks and placing proposed deployments under a board that can choose between internal development and external products. That model treats an agent as a governed component of a legal workflow rather than as an untracked chatbot used by individual lawyers.
For other firms, the announcement highlights several implementation questions: whether authoritative precedents and templates can be kept current, who owns each agent, how conflicts and confidentiality are handled, what review gates apply to generated work, and how quality is measured in the jurisdictions where the agent operates. Hogan Lovells Cadwalader has not publicly disclosed those operating details for the named agents.
