Use one exact Cuboid Outpost (Luxury Edition) release and its matching Forge loader on both the client and the dedicated server. For the current 1.20.1 line, that means release 0.5.5 with Forge 47.2.20. The pack also has a separate 1.16.5 line; its documented server archive is release 1.0.8 with Forge 36.2.26. Do not turn a normal client installation into a server by uploading its folder. Download the matching server package or use a host that installs the pack for you, then follow the README at the root of that package.

For a small installation, published host guidance clusters around 6–8 GB of allocated memory, with 8 GB a sensible starting point. That is a vendor recommendation, not an official CuboidDroid minimum or a guaranteed player-capacity figure. Actual performance depends on player count, view distance, world generation and the host machine.

What you need before installing

Cuboid Outpost (Luxury Edition) is a CuboidDroid modpack built around technology, quests and skyblock gameplay. Its files are not interchangeable across Minecraft versions. CurseForge lists releases for Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.16.5, and each line uses a different Forge loader.

  • Choose the Minecraft version first: 1.20.1 or 1.16.5.
  • Choose the exact modpack release within that version.
  • Record the Forge loader required by that release.
  • Decide whether you will self-host or use a managed Minecraft host.
  • Plan at least 6–8 GB of memory for a small installation; 8 GB is the practical starting point suggested by the hosting guidance.
  • Make sure every player can install the same release, loader and configuration.

Do this selection before creating a world. Changing the modpack or loader after players have joined can create missing-mod errors, registry mismatches or a world that will not load cleanly.

Release and Forge-loader choices

The two supported Minecraft lines should be treated as separate server products. The newest 1.20.1 file listed by CurseForge is 0.5.5, dated August 4, 2024. Modpacks.ch identifies that release as using Forge 47.2.20 and advises keeping the client and dedicated-server files matched.

Minecraft line Release identified in the available documentation Forge loader Server-file note
1.20.1 0.5.5, latest 1.20.1 release listed August 4, 2024 47.2.20 Use a server package for the same release; do not upload a client folder
1.16.5 1.0.8 server archive documented on the older server-file page 36.2.26 Cuboid-Outpost-LE-1.0.8-Server-Files.zip

If your launcher or host offers a different release, copy its complete version string and use that exact string everywhere. A server on 1.20.1 cannot accept a 1.16.5 client, and Forge 47.2.20 is not a substitute for Forge 36.2.26.

Install the pack on each player’s computer

Players need a modded launcher that can install the selected pack. Hosterfy documents a launcher route using CurseForge, Modrinth or Prism. The labels differ slightly between launchers, but the required result is the same: one instance containing the chosen Minecraft version, Forge loader and Cuboid Outpost release.

  1. Open your chosen launcher and sign in if it requires an account.
  2. Search for Cuboid Outpost (Luxury Edition), then select the intended Minecraft line.
  3. Choose the same release that will run on the server. For the current 1.20.1 line, select 0.5.5 only if the server also uses 0.5.5.
  4. Let the launcher install the pack and its Forge loader. Do not manually replace individual mods unless the pack’s own documentation tells you to.
  5. Launch the instance once in single-player or reach the title screen. This confirms that the local files are present before you attempt a network connection.
  6. Give every player the same release and loader details. Keep a short text record of the Minecraft version, pack version and Forge version so that everyone can compare their settings.

A launcher installation is a client installation. It is useful for playing, but it is not automatically a dedicated server. The server needs its own matching server files.

Self-host with the matching dedicated-server files

Self-hosting gives you control over the files and configuration, but it also makes you responsible for backups, updates and network access. Start with the server archive for the exact release you selected.

1. Obtain the correct server package

For the documented 1.16.5 installation, the older CurseForge server-file page provides Cuboid-Outpost-LE-1.0.8-Server-Files.zip, associated with Forge 36.2.26. For 1.20.1, obtain the server package that corresponds to release 0.5.5 and Forge 47.2.20 rather than adapting a client download.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If a download page offers several files, check the filename and version before extracting anything. The absence of the word “server” does not make a client archive suitable for a dedicated server.

2. Extract into a clean server directory

Create a new directory for this instance and extract the archive there. Keeping the files in their own directory makes it easier to back up the world, replace the installation or run more than one Minecraft instance. Do not mix files from the 1.16.5 and 1.20.1 lines.

3. Read the root README before changing settings

The supplied server-file instructions state: “Please ensure that you read the README.md file in the ZIP root for information on how to set up and configure your server for your particular needs.” Treat that README as the authoritative starting point for the archive you downloaded. It may define the intended launch process, required acceptance steps and configuration choices for that release.

4. Complete the package’s first start

Follow the launch command or script included with the archive and use the runtime requirements described in its README. The first start may create configuration files and a world directory. Stop the process using its normal shutdown method before editing generated files; abrupt termination can leave world data incomplete.

5. Set only the options you understand

Change the server name, access controls and performance settings deliberately. View distance, simulation distance, world generation and the number of simultaneous players all affect memory and CPU demand. Make one change at a time, restart and observe whether the problem improves. Keep a copy of the original configuration so you can undo an unsuccessful change.

6. Test locally before opening access

Connect from the same machine or local network first. Confirm that the server reaches a stable state, the world loads and a player can perform the pack’s basic quest or technology interactions. Only after that should you configure external access or invite other players.

Memory and hardware planning

There is no published official CuboidDroid minimum or guaranteed player-capacity specification in the available material. The numbers below are hosting recommendations, not measured limits.

Use case Published guidance How to interpret it
Client instance 6–8 GB allocation Hosterfy’s current guide; use the launcher’s memory setting and leave enough memory for the operating system
Hosted server 8 GB recommended Hosterfy recommends an 8 GB dedicated-RAM plan
Hosted instance 8 GB recommended WinterNode lists 8 GB for its Cuboid Outpost instance

Start at the published range, then adjust after observing real usage. More allocation is not automatically better: the host’s CPU, storage latency and available physical memory also matter. World generation and high view distance can create short periods of heavier load even when the average player count is low.

Choosing a self-host machine

  • Prefer a machine with strong single-thread CPU performance because the server’s tick loop can become CPU-bound.
  • Use storage with enough free space for the server files, generated chunks, backups and logs.
  • Keep physical memory available for the operating system and other services instead of assigning every gigabyte to Java.
  • If you plan to add players or raise view distance, leave upgrade headroom rather than buying exactly the starting allocation.
  • For a separate RAM purchase, verify the DIMM type, motherboard compatibility and whether replacing the current modules or adding capacity is supported. An “8GB DDR4 RAM” search phrase alone does not establish compatibility.

Use a managed host instead

A managed host can remove much of the file handling. Hosterfy documents one-click Cuboid Outpost installation and a launcher/server workflow. ScalaCube places the installation in its control panel under Servers → Game servers → Add Game Server. WinterNode advertises preinstalled Cuboid Outpost hosting and recommends 8 GB.

Questions to ask a host

  • Can the panel install the exact Cuboid Outpost release and Forge loader you selected?
  • Can you upload or replace the complete matching server package if the one-click catalog is behind?
  • How much dedicated RAM is included, and is the advertised amount guaranteed rather than shared?
  • What CPU model or single-thread performance does the plan provide?
  • Are automated backups included, how long are they retained, and can you download them?
  • Where is the server located, and does the provider include DDoS protection?
  • Can support help with a modpack version mismatch, or only with the panel itself?

First-run checklist

  1. Write down the exact Minecraft version, pack release and Forge loader.
  2. Install that same combination in the launcher used by every player.
  3. Install the matching dedicated-server package, not a client directory.
  4. Read the archive’s root README.md.
  5. Allocate 6–8 GB for a small setup, using 8 GB as the practical starting point suggested by current hosting guidance.
  6. Start the server and allow its initial files and world to be created.
  7. Connect locally and test loading, movement, quests and technology blocks.
  8. Configure access for invited players only after the local test succeeds.
  9. Make a backup before changing mods, Forge versions, world settings or pack releases.

Troubleshooting by symptom

“Missing mods” or a registry mismatch

Compare all three identifiers: Minecraft version, Forge loader and Cuboid Outpost release. A player on 1.20.1-0.5.5 with Forge 47.2.20 will not match a server on the 1.16.5 line or a different 1.20.1 release. Reinstall the complete instance if individual files were manually changed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The server stops during startup

Stop retrying with random settings. Check the package’s README and the first error in the server log, then confirm that the server archive matches the intended release. A client folder, mixed-version mods or an incomplete extraction can prevent a dedicated server from starting.

Players can join but experience lag

Check memory pressure, CPU usage and storage activity while the problem occurs. Lower view or simulation distance before adding more memory, and test world generation separately from ordinary movement. Increasing the player count or generating new terrain can require more resources than an idle server.

The host’s one-click installer offers the wrong release

Do not accept a near match. Ask whether the provider can select the exact release or upload the corresponding server files. If it cannot, use a different host or self-host the documented package.

A world became unusable after an update

Stop the server and restore the last known-good backup. Do not repeatedly launch the world with mixed mod files. Keep the old server directory intact until the replacement has been tested and players have confirmed that their inventories and quest progress are present.

Updating without breaking the installation

Plan an update as a separate instance rather than overwriting the live server immediately.

  1. Record the current Minecraft, Forge and pack versions.
  2. Back up the world, configuration and server files.
  3. Obtain the server package for the target release.
  4. Read the target package’s root README.
  5. Install it in a new directory and test with a copy of the world.
  6. Have every player install the same target client release.
  7. Schedule downtime, replace the live instance only after the test succeeds, and keep the old backup available for rollback.

Never assume that a newer client can safely open a world created by an older release. Treat the world as valuable data and preserve a rollback path.

What a reliable setup looks like

A reliable Cuboid Outpost server has one clearly documented version combination, a dedicated-server package intended for that combination, enough memory for its actual workload and a tested backup. Managed hosting can simplify installation, while self-hosting provides direct control over files. In either case, matching the release and Forge loader is the first diagnostic check whenever something fails.
