Short answer: In CSR Racing 2, a race tier is part of the race and car-progression context, while rarity is a separate label used by features such as Collections, star rarity, and Elite progression. Treat them as different systems. Upgrade the car that matches the event or goal you are actually playing, then spend fitting upgrades, fusion parts, Elite Parts, and rarity or Elite-level progress only when the game shows that the car is eligible and the investment supports that goal. There is no official, universal beginner car or part-by-part build order.
CSR2 is a mobile game for iOS and Android. The official site listed version 6.7.0 on September 8, 2026, but event rules, prices, task rewards, eligible cars, and feature availability can change, so use the live game screen as the final authority for a time-sensitive decision. Check the official CSR2 site for the current update listing.
What tiers, rarity, and upgrades mean
These terms answer different questions:

The distinction prevents a common mistake: assuming a purple, high-star, or Elite car automatically belongs to a higher race tier or will beat every lower-rarity car. The official material does not establish such a conversion.
Race tiers: read the race context first
A tier label is useful only in the context of the race, event, and car on your screen. It tells you where the content sits in CSR2’s progression, but it does not tell you the complete upgrade state of a particular car. Two cars associated with the same tier can have different installed parts, fusion capacity, star status, tuning, and Elite progress. Conversely, a car with an impressive rarity label may still be unsuitable for the tier or event you are trying to enter.

Before buying or upgrading a car
- Open the race or event you want to complete and read its car, tier, and restriction text.
- Check the eligible-car list rather than choosing by color, stars, or reputation alone.
- Compare the selected car’s current performance and installed parts with the event’s displayed requirement.
- Confirm that you can obtain the required upgrades and fusion parts before committing scarce currency.
- Return to the live event screen after any update or rule change; an old plan may not match current eligibility or rewards.
This process is deliberately event-first. Official sources reviewed for this guide do not publish a universal best beginner car for every tier, nor do they provide comparative tests that would justify one.
Why tier is not a quality ranking
Race tier is not a simple score from bad to good. It is a progression and eligibility context. A car’s result also depends on its fitted upgrades, available fusion slots, tuning, driver execution, event rules, and whether the event permits that car. Treat a tier label as a gate or context clue, not as a promise of performance.
Rarity systems you will see
Collections rarity
Collections is a separate feature. The official announcement says, “Collections is unlocked at level 60.” It groups Collections into Uncommon (green), Rare (blue), and Epic (purple). The categories reflect the aspiration, difficulty, and reward profile of the cars in each group; they do not replace the race tier shown elsewhere in the game. Read the official Collections announcement, published September 12, 2024.
Collections uses Car Credits for buying cars within Collections. That currency description is specific to this feature. Do not assume Car Credits are the price or payment method for every dealership, upgrade, or event.
Star rarity and Elite cars
Zynga’s support documentation separately describes increasing rarity for eligible Elite Customs or Elite Tuners cars. In this context, rarity is a car-progression action, not the green, blue, and purple Collections grouping. Eligibility matters: a button or task that appears for one Elite car may not appear for another.
Why the labels can be confusing
Green, blue, purple, stars, Elite level, and race-tier labels can appear in the same overall game journey. They are not one ladder. Use the feature name with the label when making a decision: say “Collections Rare,” “star rarity,” or “Elite level,” and separately record the race tier and event restriction. That wording keeps a Collections category from being mistaken for a race requirement.

Upgrade types and what each one changes
The game presents several distinct actions. They consume different resources and solve different problems, so do not treat the word upgrade as one universal purchase.

These are the conventional parts you fit to the car through its upgrade screen. They alter the car’s available performance in the ways shown by the game. A fitting-upgrade task is distinct from a fusion-part task and from raising rarity or Elite level. Before fitting one, check whether the car is your intended event or milestone car and whether the next upgrade is affordable with your current resources.
Fitting fusion parts
Fusion parts are additional parts that fit into available slots. Their usefulness is limited by the slots the car currently has, so buying or earning a fusion part does not guarantee an immediate benefit if no compatible slot is open. Install only parts the live screen marks as compatible, and keep a reserve when an upcoming event or milestone requires that car.
Elite Parts
Elite Parts are a separate currency with four rarity levels. Zynga says they can be earned through Showdown events and Elite Car Milestones or obtained through in-game purchases, and that adding Elite Parts can provide additional fusion slots. The exact quantity, cost, and reward attached to a transaction can change; verify the current offer in the game. See the Elite Customs support section.
Raising star rarity
For eligible Elite Customs or Elite Tuner cars, raising rarity is its own progression action. It should not be described as merely fitting another mechanical part. Confirm the car’s eligibility and the resource requirement shown by the game before using Elite resources.

Elite level is another separate action. Elite Tuners milestones can unlock customization options, RP bonuses, star-rarity boosts, and extra fusion slots. Those benefits are progression rewards; they do not mean that every level increase directly improves the same performance statistic. Which upgrade should you do first?
There is no source-backed universal order such as “always buy engine first” or “max every fusion slot.” The right first move depends on the event, car, restriction, current part level, available slots, and the reward you are pursuing. Use this decision sequence instead.
- Name the objective. Write down the specific event, race, milestone, Showdown target, Race Pass task, or Collections purchase you are pursuing. If there is no concrete objective, postpone expensive upgrades and build resources.
- Check eligibility. Confirm the car, tier, and feature restriction on the live screen. For Elite actions, verify that the car is an eligible Elite Customs or Elite Tuners vehicle.
- Identify the action the objective actually asks for. A task to fit an upgrade is not the same as one to fit a fusion part, increase rarity, or raise Elite level. Complete the matching action rather than spending on an unrelated category.
- Check the bottleneck. If the next mechanical part is affordable and required, fit it. If slots are the limitation, investigate whether an Elite Part or Elite milestone can add capacity. If the objective is a rarity or Elite-level milestone, ordinary parts may not advance it.
- Preserve flexibility. Do not drain all compatible fusion parts or Elite Parts on a car you may not use. Keep enough resources for the event’s next visible requirement and for a second eligible car if the event restricts your choice.
- Recheck the result. After fitting anything, confirm that the performance display, slot count, task counter, or milestone progress changed. If it did not, you probably used a different upgrade category from the one the objective tracks.
A practical priority rule
For a normal race objective, prioritize the lowest-cost fitting upgrade that the event screen indicates will improve eligibility or progress, then add compatible fusion parts when slots are available. For an Elite objective, prioritize the exact Elite Customs or Elite Tuners action named by the milestone. For a Collections objective, first reach the feature’s level requirement and then budget Car Credits for the Collection purchase rather than assuming another currency will work.
How to manage your early resources
Separate currencies by purpose
- Car Credits: use them for purchases within Collections, as described by the official Collections announcement.
- Elite Parts: reserve them for eligible Elite Customs or Elite Tuners progression and additional fusion-slot capacity.
- Fusion parts: fit only when the selected car has a compatible open slot and a clear event or milestone reason.
- Other in-game currency: read the live purchase description; the cited official sources do not establish a single price or currency for every dealership and upgrade.
Do not spend from a screenshot or old guide
Prices, Race Pass tasks and rewards, event schedules, eligible cars, and feature availability are volatile. A video or guide can still explain a mechanic, but its purchase amount or task order may be obsolete. Compare it with the current in-game card before spending.
When delaying an upgrade is rational
Delay a purchase when the car is not eligible for your target event, when no compatible slot is open, when the task tracks a different progression type, or when the reward does not justify consuming a scarce resource. Waiting is especially sensible for Elite Parts because their four rarity levels and slot effects make an apparently small purchase part of a longer Elite plan.
Race Pass tasks: use the wording literally
Zynga’s Race Pass support page lists several task types separately: fitting upgrades, fitting fusion parts, increasing rarity on eligible Elite Customs or Elite Tuner cars, and increasing Elite level. The list is useful because it shows that the game tracks these actions independently. Check the current Race Pass task reference.
If a task does not advance
- Read the task’s exact noun: upgrade, fusion part, rarity, or Elite level.
- Confirm that the action was performed on a car accepted by that task, especially for Elite actions.
- Allow the game to sync, then reopen the Race Pass panel and the car screen.
- Check whether the task requires a count, a particular feature, or a current event rather than any car.
- Do not repeat an expensive purchase until the counter confirms that the first action was recognized.
Collections at level 60: a beginner’s path
Collections is not an early-game substitute for race progression. It unlocks at player level 60, so a new player should first follow the normal race and event path shown in the game. Once unlocked, open the Collections feature, inspect the Uncommon, Rare, and Epic groups, and note which cars and rewards matter to your goals.

- Reach player level 60.
- Open Collections and identify the group containing the car you want.
- Read the displayed Car Credits cost and any eligibility or ownership requirement.
- Compare that purchase with your active event plan; buying a Collections car does not by itself complete a race-tier requirement.
- Keep the Collections rarity label separate from any star-rarity or Elite progression shown on the car.
The official announcement describes the categories’ aspiration, difficulty, and reward profile, but it does not establish that an Epic Collections car is the best choice for every race tier.
Elite Customs and Elite Tuners: when to invest
Elite progression is worthwhile when the car is eligible and the benefit matches your objective. Milestones can unlock customization, RP bonuses, star-rarity boosts, and extra fusion slots. Those are meaningful account and car benefits, but they are not a blanket instruction to maximize every Elite car.
Use an Elite investment checklist
- Is the car required by a current event, milestone, or Race Pass task?
- Does the displayed milestone unlock a benefit you will use, such as another fusion slot or an RP bonus?
- Do you have the required Elite Parts or milestone progress without emptying resources needed elsewhere?
- Is the car still eligible under the current version and event rules?
- Can you verify the result immediately after the action?
If any answer is no, keep the resources until a clearer objective appears. The official sources describe the available systems and benefits, not a universal investment ranking.

Mistake: spending Car Credits on a non-Collections purchase
Fix: use Car Credits where the Collections screen specifies them and read the currency label for every other transaction.
Mistake: following an old upgrade order

Do not promise a universal winning car, a best car for each tier, an optimal part-by-part order, a fixed performance gain, or a permanent price. The official pages cited here explain the feature boundaries and task types, but they do not provide comparative testing for every car and version. A responsible recommendation must name the mode, car, version, restrictions, resources, and objective.
