ESL reportedly asked Counter-Strike 2 professionals how long they thought it would take them to reach Tier 1 in VALORANT. Their estimates ranged from one week to up to two years—but they were hypothetical predictions, not evidence that any player made the switch or reached that level.
What the CS2 pros reportedly estimated
TalkEsport reported on October 6, 2026, that ESL posed the question during ESL Pro League as part of a discussion about how Counter-Strike skills might transfer to VALORANT. Its article lists these answers:

These are the durations TalkEsport attributes to the players; they are not measured adaptation times. TalkEsport characterizes the answers as hypothetical and notes that some may have been sarcastic. The report also says apEX claimed he could become VALORANT’s best in-game leader within a year, a separate role-specific prediction rather than another general estimate of time to Tier 1. Why the headline says “within two years”
Two years is the longest horizon in the reported list, not a shared answer or consensus. Several estimates are far shorter, from one week to six months. The headline’s broadest timeframe captures the longest response while leaving out that spread, so it should not be read as a prediction that all the players would need two years.

Could CS2 experience translate to Tier 1 VALORANT?
TalkEsport’s explanation is that the games share core 5v5 first-person-shooter fundamentals, which could help experienced Counter-Strike players adapt. VALORANT also requires learning its agents and abilities, adding skills and game-specific decisions that are not captured by a simple timeline.
Most importantly, adapting to a game, reaching a competitive tier, and securing a place on a professional team are different outcomes. The report gives players’ estimates about a hypothetical route to Tier 1; it does not document completed transitions or show that CS2 experience by itself guarantees a professional VALORANT career.

What the report does—and does not—establish
- It reports: ESL asked CS2 professionals for hypothetical estimates, which TalkEsport summarized as ranging from one week to up to two years.
- It does not establish: that the named players switched games, reached Tier 1, or earned places on VALORANT teams.
- It does not provide: a controlled comparison of the games’ difficulty or independently measured evidence about how quickly CS2 professionals can adapt.
The linked ESL video was not reviewed here, so the player answers are presented as TalkEsport’s report rather than as verified direct quotations.
