Oliver “kzy” Heck has been made permanently ineligible by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) after its investigation into four NOMERCY matches at Roman Imperium Cup VII. ESIC’s final decision, announced on October 15, 2026, found breaches involving match manipulation, corrupt in-game incidents, facilitation of corrupt conduct and failures to cooperate. The widely reported $4.5 million figure was a potential return from a betting accumulator, not money confirmed as paid to Heck; reporting says the bookmaker voided the wager.

Who is the CS2 pro banned for life?

Oliver “kzy” Heck, a NOMERCY player and central in-game leader, received lifetime ineligibility from ESIC. The sanction has no fixed expiry date. In its October 15 notice, ESIC wrote: “The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has issued final disciplinary decisions against five players from Team NO MERCY (NOMERCY) following an investigation into match manipulation at Roman Imperium Cup VII.”

The ruling replaces the provisional suspension imposed on April 23, 2026. ESIC’s final disciplinary decisions were dated September 17, 2026, and announced publicly on October 15.

Which matches were investigated?

ESIC examined four best-of-one matches played on March 28, 2026, at Roman Imperium Cup VII. Its betting intelligence identified a structured combination wager aimed at a negative 9.5-round handicap across all four NOMERCY games. ESIC says every result aligned with the targeted outcome.

Opponent Reported score
BetBoom Team 13–0
Sangal Esports 13–3
BESTIA 13–1
Wildcard 13–1

Dexerto’s account of the scorelines says NOMERCY won only five rounds in total across the four maps. The unusual concentration of one-sided results formed part of the context for ESIC’s investigation, but the commission did not treat any single round or error as conclusive on its own.

What happened with the reported $4.5 million CS2 bet?

Reports described an accumulator stake of about $57,000 with a potential return above $4.5 million if all four handicap selections won. RTP Arena reported that the bookmaker later voided the wager, citing an April 2 update that reproduced a social-media statement: “The bet ended up being voided.”

That distinction matters. The available reporting establishes a possible return, not a $4.5 million payout. Neither ESIC’s notice nor the cited reports identify the bettor, and no available source establishes that kzy placed the wager, owned it or received any winnings.

Why did ESIC impose a lifetime ban?

ESIC relied on a combined evidence package

ESIC said it considered a Runestone Data Partner Report, full-match gameplay review, supplementary player-specific analysis, roster information, communications, financial material where produced and responses from the participants. The commission described recurring problems involving trading, utility use, positioning and decision-making.

ESIC expressly said that no isolated gameplay mistake, transaction or communication was determinative. Its conclusion was based on the combined evidence and the limitations of the individual evidence categories. The commission characterized the gameplay pattern as repeated rather than as one accidental lapse.

Heck’s role and cooperation were material

For Heck specifically, ESIC found breaches related to match manipulation, corrupt in-game incidents and facilitating corrupt conduct. It also found failures to comply with cooperation duties. His central leadership and calling role, involvement in veto decisions and repeated gameplay involvement increased the significance of the findings, according to the decision.

ESIC also identified his complete non-cooperation as a factor. The lifetime outcome therefore reflects both the conduct provisions the commission found breached and its assessment of Heck’s influence and conduct during the investigation; it was not described as a punishment for one particular misplay.

How long are the other NOMERCY bans?

Four other NOMERCY participants received fixed-term ineligibility periods in the same final decisions.

Player ESIC sanction Credited expiry
János “James8k” Fodor Five years April 23, 2031
Petar “perakokanje” Bešir Five years April 23, 2031
Palkovics “2xplayN” Tamás Three years April 23, 2029
Sreten “srtn1” Smiljanić Three years April 23, 2029

The dates are credited to April 23, 2026, when provisional suspensions began. Heck’s sanction is different because it has no stated end date.

Does the ESIC ban stop coaching or only playing?

No. The ineligibility is broader than removal from a competitive player roster. ESIC says the sanctioned people may not play, coach, manage, officiate, analyse, assist, provide strategy or practice, or participate in any capacity in matches, events or activities that are authorized, organized, sanctioned, recognized or supported by ESIC or an ESIC member.

The restriction also covers accreditation for media work or other services at an official event venue or match. ESIC’s stated exception is authorized anti-corruption education or rehabilitation. That means a banned person cannot simply move from the server to a coaching, analyst, team-management or event role within the covered ecosystem.
