Inferno rewards a simple habit: take space with a teammate, use one or two repeatable grenades, and report what you see using standard callouts. The map is compact, has two bomb sites, and funnels players through narrow routes. That makes utility and communication more important than complicated aim duels. Start by learning the path from T spawn to Banana and B, then T spawn through Mid and Apartments toward A, and finally the CT rotation routes between the sites.
Valve’s Inferno rework focused on improving visibility, making it easier to move around in groups, and fine-tuning gameplay from community feedback. Those goals explain why grouped movement, clear information and smoke timing matter so much on this map.
Understand Inferno’s shape before learning lineups
Inferno is a small, compressed map. The long distances and open angles found on some other Counter-Strike maps are replaced by short corridors, corners and chokepoints. A player who reaches a choke alone is easy to isolate; three players arriving together can trade kills and make a grenade far more valuable.
There are two routes that define most rounds:
- Banana to B: the direct lane from T spawn toward B. Teams contest it early, deny it with grenades, or use it as evidence that the other site is weak.
- Mid and Apartments to A: the central route branches through Apartments, Short and Long before reaching A site.
Learn these routes in that order. Afterward, walk the CT-side paths that connect B, CT, Arch, Library and A. Knowing how long a rotation takes—and which smoke or flash may hide it—is more useful than memorizing a large collection of lineups.

On the T side, decide before the round whether Banana pressure is the objective or a feint for an A attack. On the CT side, decide who gathers early Banana information and who remains ready to support the other site.
Use a small, shared callout vocabulary
Callouts are only useful when everyone uses the same names. The Steam callout guide cautions that invented or outdated names can confuse newer players, so use the names shown on your current map guide and in your team’s normal vocabulary.

| Area | Callouts to learn first | What to communicate |
|---|---|---|
| Banana and B approach | Banana, Car, Logs, CT, Coffins, Dark, B site | How far opponents have advanced, whether a smoke blocks CT or Coffins, and which close position was cleared. |
| A approach | Apartments, Balcony, Boiler, Short, Long, Pit, Library, Arch, A site | Whether the entry is coming from Apartments, Short or Long, and which angles remain dangerous. |
| Mid and rotations | Mid, Underpass, CT, Arch, Library | Which route is open, whether a defender has rotated, and when a teammate can safely move between sites. |
Keep calls short: “Two Banana,” “one Coffins,” “smoke CT,” or “Apartments clear.” A precise location followed by a number or action gives teammates something they can use immediately. Do not replace a standard name with a personal nickname in the middle of a round.
Beginner T-side plan: pressure Banana without wasting the round
Banana is the defining B-side decision. A current tactical guide from MetaBot describes it as the central T-side choice and recommends combining a molotov or incendiary, HE grenade and flash before committing to a B hit. You do not need a perfect professional execute; you need a sequence that your group can repeat.
Simple Banana-control sequence
- State the plan. Say whether the team is taking Banana for a B hit or using early grenades as a feint. This prevents one player from spending every grenade while the rest of the team prepares A.
- Use fire to deny the first close position. Throw a molotov or incendiary where defenders commonly wait near the front of Banana. The goal is to force movement or delay a peek, not to score a guaranteed kill.
- Follow with HE damage. An HE grenade is strongest when opponents are trapped by the fire or have just been pushed away from cover. Call the timing so teammates do not walk into their own blast.
- Flash the swing. Flash over or around the next corner as a teammate takes space. The player entering should be ready to stop if the flash misses rather than sprinting blind into a stack.
- Pause and report. Once the first section is gained, announce what was seen. If Banana is empty, keep enough utility for the actual site entry; do not throw everything merely to reach Logs.
For a B entry, learn one smoke that blocks either CT or Coffins, then add one flash that lets a teammate cross or swing. The smoke removes a major sightline; the flash creates the moment to pass it. Practice one version until you can throw it consistently before learning a full multi-smoke execute.

When Banana is a feint
Early fire and a flash can make CT players expect B while the rest of the team moves through Mid and Apartments. The feint works only if the team preserves enough utility for A and communicates the change. If two teammates remain fighting for Banana after the call changes, the team has paid the cost of pressure without gaining a site commitment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBeginner T-side plan: reach A through Apartments and Mid
Valve specifically highlights attackers’ ability to use smoke grenades and flashbangs before entering A. Apply that idea narrowly: block one defender’s sightline, then flash the entry route you are using.
Apartments entry
Approach Apartments as a group rather than sending one player to clear every corner alone. A smoke can cut a sightline near the exit, while a flash lets the first player cross Balcony or swing toward A. Call “Boiler,” “Balcony” and “Apartments” as you clear them so players behind you know whether they can follow.
Short or Long approach
Use the same principle from Short or Long: identify the defender’s likely angle, smoke that view, and flash the player who takes the first contact. Pit, Library and Arch are important information points. If your team cannot name which of those angles is covered, slow down instead of flooding the site one at a time.
Do not confuse a smoke with a cleared position. A smoke hides vision for a limited time; an opponent may still be behind it or may have moved while it was deployed. Pair the smoke with a call and a teammate ready to trade.

Beginner CT-side plan: delay, gather information and rotate deliberately
On defense, assign at least one player to early Banana information and utility. An incendiary or HE can slow the first rush and reveal whether several attackers are present. After using the grenade, fall back with information rather than taking repeated isolated fights in the same choke.
If Banana is lost, say so immediately and rotate with a purpose. “Banana lost” is more useful than silence because the B player can request help and the A players can judge whether the attack is real. Do not let several defenders die one by one in Banana while the other site is left uncovered.
Hold crossfires on site. One defender can show an angle while another plays for the trade, forcing attackers to clear two guns instead of receiving separate duels. Keep checking the minimap so a rotation starts when teammates have enough information, not only after a bomb is seen.
Utility jobs: deny, block, flash or clear
Every grenade should have a stated job. Thinking in jobs keeps beginners from copying lineups without understanding their timing.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Utility job | Typical Inferno use | Beginner question |
|---|---|---|
| Deny space | Molotov or incendiary at Banana’s close positions; CT-side delay before falling back. | Which route or corner must opponents wait for? |
| Block vision | Smoke CT or Coffins for a B entry; smoke a defender’s A sightline. | Who benefits from the blocked view, and for how long? |
| Enable an entry | Flash a teammate crossing Banana, Apartments, Short or Long. | Who is swinging, and can the flash reach without blinding them? |
| Deal damage or clear | HE after fire traps players or before a push through a tight choke. | Has a teammate forced opponents into a predictable area? |
The route, purpose, timing and information cost are the four useful comparison axes. Banana and Apartments/Mid are different routes; a smoke and a flash solve different problems; early control happens before a site execute; and every commitment changes what teammates know about the enemy setup.

Practice Inferno in a repeatable routine
Practice mode provides a safer place to learn movement and grenade timing. Select Inferno, enable Use map guide, and open the Steam Workshop resource associated with the guide. Its points are categorized by utility type: smokes, flashes, molotovs/incendiaries, HE grenades, boosts and spawn points.
The Workshop author lists 45 smoke points, 17 flash points, 18 molotov points, 7 incendiary points, 6 HE points and 6 boost points (Steam Community Workshop, 2025). Those figures describe the resource’s contents, not match-performance statistics or a requirement to learn every lineup.
First practice session
- Walk from T spawn to B and from T spawn through Mid and Apartments to A without throwing anything. Identify every turn and the nearest fallback route.
- Learn one Banana-denial or entry smoke. Repeat it until the landing location is consistent from the same spawn.
- Add one flash for that route. Practice throwing it while a teammate moves, then repeat from a slightly different position so you understand its limits.
- Add one incendiary for a common close position. Notice how long the fire delays movement and where an opponent can retreat.
- Play several rounds using only those actions. Call standard locations aloud, even in a solo practice environment, so the words become automatic.
Once those actions are reliable, add a second smoke or a different flash. Expanding slowly produces a smaller but dependable toolkit, which is more valuable to a beginner than a large lineup library that cannot be reproduced under pressure.

Mistake: entering a choke alone
Fix: wait for a teammate, throw the flash, and move close enough to trade. A player who arrives several seconds early gives defenders separate duels and makes every grenade less effective.
Mistake: spending all utility for early map control
Fix: reserve at least the smoke or flash needed for the actual site entry. Banana control is preparation, not automatically the round’s final objective.

Mistake: treating a smoke as proof that an area is clear
Fix: pair vision denial with a clear call and a player ready to check the dangerous side when the smoke fades.
Mistake: using unfamiliar callouts
Fix: use the standard names—such as Coffins, Dark, Pit, Library and Arch—and adopt the labels shown by the current map guide.

Fix: report numbers, locations and utility first. A single footstep is not the same information as multiple players seen at Banana; let the team decide whether to rotate.
Mistake: repeating a lost fight at Banana
Fix: fall back, preserve health and wait for support. Narrow corridors punish isolated re-peeks, while a delayed crossfire can recover the position.
A compact learning plan for your first matches
For the first few games, assign yourself one job per round:
- Round focus one: make the correct callout whenever you see an opponent or grenade.
- Round focus two: arrive with a teammate and trade the first contact.
- Round focus three: use one practiced smoke and one flash at the intended timing.
- Round focus four: preserve one piece of utility for the site entry.
- Round focus five: after the bomb is planted or the site is lost, use the minimap to choose a deliberate rotation rather than chasing a duel.
This sequence builds the habits that make more advanced executes useful: movement together, information before commitment, and utility that supports a specific action.
Keep your knowledge current after updates
Inferno’s geometry, callout conventions, grenade behavior and competitive priorities can change after Counter-Strike 2 updates. The CS2.eu map page is marked archived, the Workshop guide is community-maintained, and MetaBot’s tactical recommendations are current to October 8, 2026. Recheck the in-game map guide and current patch notes after a major update, especially if a familiar smoke no longer lands or a route looks different.
Valve’s stated rework goals—“Improve visibility throughout the map,” “Make it easier to move around in groups,” and “Fine-tune the gameplay based on community feedback”—remain useful principles for evaluating your play. If a tactic requires one player to separate from the team, consume every grenade early, or hide information from teammates, it is usually a poor beginner tactic even when the lineup itself is technically correct.
