There is no dependable, universal list of eight global companies that accept cryptocurrency directly at checkout. Payment routes change and may depend on your country, the specific merchant or store, and the payment provider. The examples below are useful places to check—not a guarantee that crypto payment is available for every purchase.
First distinguish direct checkout from a third-party crypto processor, a merchant’s optional payment setup, and buying a gift card with crypto. They are different ways to spend cryptocurrency, and only the first means the retailer itself offers crypto at checkout.
Eight companies and platforms to check for crypto payment options
These names appear in provider directories or company overviews, but those listings do not establish that every company currently accepts crypto directly, worldwide. Confirm the payment route and availability on the company’s own checkout or support pages before relying on it.

- Newegg: BitPay’s merchant directory lists Newegg. Check whether the option appears for your country and specific order; a directory listing is not a guarantee of availability at every checkout. BitPay’s merchant directory distinguishes merchants from its separate gift-card offering. [c002]
- Microsoft: Named in a 2026 Ledger overview of companies associated with crypto payments. The overview is a lead, not confirmation of a currently active direct-payment option. Verify the route with Microsoft before attempting a purchase. [c003]
- AT&T: Also named in Ledger’s overview. Check whether any option is direct, provider-mediated, limited by region, or no longer available before treating it as an accepted payment method. [c003]
- Twitch: Ledger’s overview includes Twitch, but does not make that listing proof of a current, universal crypto checkout. Check Twitch’s current payment information for your location and purchase type. [c003]
- Tesla: Named in the same overview. A company’s historical or limited crypto-payment announcement should not be taken as evidence that crypto is accepted for current purchases; confirm on Tesla’s own checkout or support information. [c003]
- Shopify stores: Shopify is a commerce platform, not one retailer with a single crypto policy. Merchants can activate supported third-party cryptocurrency payment methods in their Shopify admin, so some stores may offer crypto while others do not. The payment provider determines supported assets and settlement arrangements. Shopify’s cryptocurrency payment documentation lists providers including Crypto.com, BitPay, OpenNode, Strike, Solana Pay, DePay, Lunu, Bit2Me Commerce and IBEX Pay. [c001]
- Overstock: Appears in a separate overview updated March 6, 2026. That overview mixes claims and payment-route distinctions that may not reflect current checkout availability, so confirm directly with Overstock rather than assuming direct crypto acceptance. [c004]
- Expedia: Also named in that March 6, 2026 overview. A listing there does not establish that Expedia accepts crypto directly today; check Expedia’s current payment terms for your booking and region. [c004]
These examples do not all represent the same kind of acceptance. Shopify lets individual merchants configure payment methods, BitPay’s directory is a provider listing, and the other names come from secondary overviews that are not conclusive proof of current direct checkout.

What “accepts cryptocurrency” can mean
| Payment route | What happens | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Direct crypto checkout | The merchant presents cryptocurrency as a payment option in its own checkout. | Supported coin or network, region, order eligibility, exchange-rate handling, and refund terms. |
| Third-party processor | A payment provider handles the crypto payment for the merchant. Shopify lists multiple providers, whose supported assets and settlement options differ. Shopify’s provider documentation gives examples. [c001] | Which provider the store uses, which assets it accepts, and whether the merchant receives crypto or settlement in fiat. |
| Merchant-configured platform checkout | A platform such as Shopify gives each merchant the option to activate supported payment methods. This does not mean every store on the platform accepts crypto. [c001] | Whether the particular store has enabled the method and whether it is available for your location. |
| Gift card bought with crypto | You use crypto to buy a gift card through a provider, then spend the card with the retailer. BitPay separates its gift-card offer from merchant listings. [c002] | Whether the gift card works in your country, currency, and intended retailer account. This route is not proof the retailer accepts crypto at its own checkout. |
How to check whether a company will take your crypto
- Start with the exact purchase. Go to the merchant’s checkout or current help page and look for cryptocurrency among the payment options. A general mention of crypto may not cover subscriptions, gift cards, particular products, or your order.
- Identify the route. Determine whether the merchant takes crypto directly, sends payment through a processor, or is only reachable through a gift card. Do not treat these as interchangeable.
- Check your region and asset. Shopify explicitly advises merchants to verify whether cryptocurrency is an acceptable form of payment in their region. Provider and merchant availability can vary, as can the supported coins and networks. [c001]
- Read the payment and refund terms. Confirm the exchange rate and payment deadline, whether the provider settles to the merchant in fiat, and what happens if you need a refund. Shopify notes that crypto payments do not receive automatic refunds through Shopify. [c001]
- Use directories as discovery tools, not guarantees. BitPay’s directory can help identify merchants it lists, but confirm the option at the actual checkout. Secondary roundups may describe past, limited, or indirect availability. [c002] [c003] [c004]
What to know before paying with crypto
Supported coins and settlement are provider-specific
A store’s crypto option does not imply that it accepts every coin. Shopify’s documentation gives provider-specific examples, including Bitcoin and Bitcoin Lightning through some providers, and differing settlement arrangements such as USD or other fiat currencies. Check the chosen provider’s terms for the exact asset, network, and settlement method. [c001]
Refunds may require separate handling
Shopify says crypto payments do not receive automatic refunds through Shopify. That makes the merchant’s refund procedure important: find out whether a refund is possible, who processes it, and how the amount is calculated before paying. [c001]

Payment timing can affect order availability
Shopify notes that slower settlement can contribute to overselling during flash sales. If an item is scarce or time-sensitive, confirm when the order is considered paid and reserved rather than assuming that initiating a crypto transfer secures it. [c001]
Additional fees may apply
Shopify notes that third-party transaction fees may apply to cryptocurrency payment methods. Check the merchant’s and provider’s fee disclosures before submitting payment. [c001]

Where can you spend Bitcoin?
Start with a company’s own checkout or support pages, then use a processor directory such as BitPay’s to discover possible options. If you find only a crypto-funded gift card, treat that as an indirect route: the retailer may not accept Bitcoin itself. Confirm country eligibility and current terms before buying a gift card or sending a payment. [c002]
