There is no single best crypto futures platform for every trader. Start with the product you can legally access in your country, then compare contract coverage, total trading costs, margin and liquidation rules, and the platform’s controls. The figures below come from Kraken Learn’s June 19, 2026 comparison; they are published estimates, not independently measured rankings, and can vary by location, contract, fee tier, and date.
What to know before choosing a crypto futures platform
A futures contract is a derivative: taking a position does not mean you directly buy the cryptocurrency. A dated futures contract expires, so maintaining exposure may require closing it or rolling into another contract. A perpetual futures contract has no expiry, but it typically uses funding payments to help keep its price aligned with the spot market.
Availability is product- and location-specific. Kraken Learn’s June 2026 comparison says Binance.com, Bybit, and OKX futures are unavailable to US residents. Kraken and Coinbase document derivatives for eligible US users, subject to account, product, and geographic conditions. Check the official terms for your own location before opening an account or relying on a platform’s global product list.

How the platforms compare
Kraken Learn’s June 19, 2026 comparison reports the following market, leverage, and fee figures. Its numbers are not a universal or guaranteed schedule: rates and available contracts may differ by region, contract, account tier, and date.
| Platform | Perpetual markets or contract coverage | Maximum leverage reported | Maker / taker fees reported | Key qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken | 300+ perpetual markets | Up to 100x for certain assets and regions | Starting at 0.020% / 0.050% | Volume-dependent rates; availability and leverage vary by region and asset. Kraken announced a separate US regulated perpetual product for eligible clients in June 2026. |
| Binance | 300+ perpetual markets | 125x maximum BTC leverage in the comparison | 0.02% / 0.04% | Not available to US residents according to the comparison. A specific BTCUSD1 contract announcement reported up to 100x, illustrating that leverage differs by contract. |
| Bybit | 400+ markets | 100x BTC leverage | 0.02% / 0.055% | Not available to US residents according to the comparison. |
| OKX | 300+ perpetual markets | 100x BTC leverage | 0.02% / 0.05% | Not available to US residents according to the comparison. |
| Coinbase Advanced | BTC and ETH products | 10x crypto leverage | 0.02% / 0.02% | The comparison’s figures are not a current universal schedule; eligibility and displayed leverage depend on product and margin requirements. |
Kraken Learn also names Hyperliquid in its 2026 shortlist, but the comparison figures summarized here do not establish a like-for-like market, fee, or leverage profile for it. Treat that mention as a candidate to investigate, not as evidence of a comparative ranking.

Which platform may fit your needs?
If you are in the United States
Begin with the specific US product and account eligibility rather than a platform’s international futures menu. Kraken announced on June 15, 2026 that eligible US clients could access CFTC-regulated perpetual futures on Kraken Pro alongside spot, margin, and CME-listed futures. Its initial perpetual contracts covered BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, ADA, LINK, DOGE, LTC, and AVAX. Kraken said those contracts have no expiry or settlement date and use funding payments every eight hours.
Coinbase’s derivatives help page says US derivatives balances are held with Coinbase Financial Markets, which it identifies as a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant and NFA member. The page also says service depends on geography and eligibility, and the leverage shown can change based on the contract, position side, and margin requirements. Confirm the exact product available to your account; the comparison’s BTC-and-ETH coverage should not be read as a complete or current listing of every eligible product.

- BUILT FOR YOUR MARKET, FUTURES, STOCKS, FOREX, OPTIONS & CRYPTO: 4X is a mindset and process journal, not a strategy tool tied to one instrument. The plan, the trade log, the deep dive and the weekly review work the same whether you trade ES, EURUSD, SPY or BTC. Traders use it across all five markets every day.
- THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. Weekly reviews now grouped with each week's trades, so no more flipping back and forth. Crisp, darker print that's easy on the eyes after hours on a screen. A Quick-Start QR that scans straight to step-by-step instructions.
- NOT A NOTEBOOK, A COMPLETE 12-WEEK SYSTEM: Start with a one-time 9-part Trading Plan (your market, setups, risk rules and discipline checklist). Then twelve identical weeks: five Daily Logs, five Deep Dive trade pages, and a two-page Weekly Review. 189 guided pages, roughly 80 trades. Guided prompts walk you through every step. You never stare at a blank page.
- RATE YOUR EXECUTION, NOT YOUR RESULT: Your platform tracks the P&L. Nothing tracks the why. Log energy, sleep and mindset before the open; grade every trade A to F on whether you followed your plan, not on whether it won; then face the pattern every weekend with START / STOP / IMPROVE / CONTINUE. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.
- BUILT TO LAST, ARRIVES GIFT-READY: Vegan-leather hardcover, 100gsm bleed-resistant paper, two ribbon markers and an elastic closure band. Bound to lay flat so you're not fighting the spine while you write. 189 pages, 5.75" x 8.5", carries in a bag. Ships in a premium gift box: the gift every trader in your life actually wants.
If you are outside the United States
Check which legal entity serves your country and whether it offers the particular dated or perpetual contract you intend to trade. Kraken Learn’s reported market counts suggest broader perpetual-market coverage on Kraken, Binance, Bybit, and OKX than the BTC-and-ETH coverage it lists for Coinbase Advanced, but that does not prove every market is available in your country or that execution is better.
If you want a perpetual contract
Compare the funding interval and payment mechanism as well as the trading fee. Kraken’s announced US perpetuals settle funding every eight hours. Its description says that when a perpetual trades above spot, longs pay shorts, and when it trades below spot, shorts pay longs. Funding can therefore add to or offset the cost of holding a position; it is separate from maker and taker fees.
If you want dated futures
Check the contract’s expiry and how you would maintain or close exposure. A dated contract expires; keeping a similar position afterward can involve closing the expiring contract and opening another one. The platform’s product documentation should explain contract specifications and settlement terms for the market you plan to trade.

How to compare the real cost, not just the advertised fee
Maker and taker rates are only one part of the cost. Your actual result depends on the fee tier you qualify for, the order type and execution, any funding paid or received, and the margin requirements associated with your contract and position. A headline rate alone cannot establish which venue is cheapest for your trading pattern.
Best Value
- Trading fees: Check the current maker and taker schedule for your account tier and the exact contract.
- Funding: For perpetuals, note the interval, current rate, and whether payments are expected to be a cost or credit for your position.
- Margin: Review initial and maintenance margin, eligible collateral, and what can happen if requirements change.
- Execution: Compare spreads, order-book depth, and likely slippage for the contract and trade size you actually use. The figures summarized here do not provide independent, comparable execution measurements.
- Contract terms: Check settlement currency, expiry where applicable, index or reference price, and liquidation mechanics.
- Eligibility: Confirm regional availability and account requirements before comparing a product you may not be able to use.
Why maximum leverage should not decide your choice
Maximum leverage is a limit offered for some contracts or users, not a measure of safety or a recommendation. Higher leverage means a smaller adverse price move can consume the margin supporting a position. Coinbase warns that leverage can produce losses greater than the initial investment. Its help page also describes higher margin requirements at the overnight transition, which can trigger liquidation.
Risk settings can change. Binance’s May 14, 2026 announcement for its BTCUSD1 contract said it launched May 18 with up to 100x leverage, 24/7 trading, and funding settlement every eight hours. The announcement also warned that risk conditions can lead to changes in funding, tick size, leverage, and margin requirements, and that services may not be available in every region. Those BTCUSD1 terms are contract-specific, not a universal Binance leverage figure; Kraken Learn’s comparison reported a 125x maximum for BTC across its comparison context.
Before placing a trade, understand the platform’s liquidation process, monitor margin requirements, and avoid sizing a position on the assumption that the maximum leverage will remain available.

Kraken’s June 2026 announcement describes its US perpetual futures as CFTC-regulated and available to eligible clients. Coinbase’s derivatives help page identifies Coinbase Financial Markets as a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant and NFA member. Those are product- and entity-specific descriptions; they do not mean every crypto futures product or platform is regulated in the same way.
On May 29, 2026, the CFTC said its staff had confirmed that certain described digital-commodity perpetual contracts could be categorized as foreign futures under Regulation 30.1. The release also described a conditional no-action position concerning the transfer of customer-owned digital commodities and payment stablecoins to a foreign broker affiliate as margin. This was a staff interpretation and a conditional position about described arrangements, not a blanket endorsement or a determination that every crypto perpetual falls under the same treatment.
Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- Verify access: Identify the platform entity, your country’s eligibility rules, and the precise futures product available to your account.
- Choose contract type: Decide whether you need a perpetual or a dated contract, and review its expiry or funding terms.
- Price the position: Check the fee tier, funding, margin, collateral rules, and likely execution cost for your planned order.
- Review downside mechanics: Read how maintenance margin, liquidation, and changes to risk parameters work.
- Compare evidence, not slogans: Use comparable data for the markets and trade sizes you care about. Market counts and maximum leverage alone do not prove liquidity, lower all-in cost, or stronger security.
