135 reported attempts do not mean 135 SonicWall SMA 1000 appliances were compromised. Previdian described sensor observations against CVE-2026-102255 on October 9–10, 2026, while SonicWall’s October 6 advisory said it had no evidence that the vulnerabilities in that notice were being exploited in the wild. The flaw is a critical, pre-authentication server-side request forgery (SSRF) in the SMA 1000 Work Place interface. Administrators should check their model and firmware against SonicWall’s affected-build list and install a fixed hotfix.

What happened, and what does the 135 figure mean?

SonicWall’s October 6, 2026 product notice, SNWLID-2026-0017, covers four vulnerabilities in the SMA 1000 series. CVE-2026-102255 is a pre-authentication SSRF flaw in the Work Place interface, assigned a CVSS score of 10.0 by SonicWall. A pre-authentication flaw does not require an attacker to sign in before attempting to exploit it.

Previdian reported 135 attempts against CVE-2026-102255 in telemetry published October 9–10. Its public reporting describes observations by one sensor associated with two attacker IP addresses. That count is an observation count: it does not establish 135 victims, successful exploitation, or any compromised customer appliance.

How to interpret the different exploitation reports

The two statements refer to different evidence. On October 6, SonicWall said of the vulnerabilities in SNWLID-2026-0017: “There is no evidence that these vulnerabilities are being exploited in the wild.” Previdian later reported attempts observed by its sensor. An attempted request is not proof that it succeeded, and the telemetry does not overturn or confirm SonicWall’s assessment of successful exploitation.

Keep this October issue separate from SonicWall’s September 1 notice, SNWLID-2026-0016. That earlier advisory covered CVE-2026-83548 and CVE-2026-83549, and SonicWall explicitly said those different vulnerabilities had been confirmed as actively exploited. That confirmation does not apply to CVE-2026-102255.

Which SMA 1000 models and firmware builds are affected?

SonicWall lists models 6210, 7210, and 8200v—including virtual 8200v deployments—as affected when running either of these builds or an older build in the same branch:

What administrators should do

  1. Identify the appliance and build. Confirm whether the deployment is a 6210, 7210, or 8200v, then check its firmware branch and exact build against the affected ranges above.
  2. Upgrade affected appliances. Install a fixed build for the branch or a later hotfix specified by SonicWall. Follow the vendor’s release and deployment guidance for the appliance.
  3. Assess exposure and logs. Review whether the Work Place interface was reachable from the internet and examine relevant appliance and perimeter records for suspicious requests. A telemetry count alone cannot establish whether your appliance was reached or compromised.
  4. Escalate credible compromise indicators. Contact SonicWall technical support for an indicator review if you suspect compromise; use the vendor’s guidance rather than treating an observed attempt as proof of intrusion.

If you suspect an SMA 1000 compromise

SonicWall’s September guidance for its earlier, actively exploited SMA 1000 vulnerabilities recommends contacting technical support to review indicators of compromise. If indicators are found, that notice advises reimaging hardware or redeploying virtual appliances, changing user and administrator passwords, and resetting TOTP tokens. Those are incident-response measures from the September advisory; coordinate with support on their applicability to a suspected incident involving the October flaw.
