Crimson Desert requires a 64-bit Windows 10 PC, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, an SSD with 150 GB free, and at least a Ryzen 5 2600X/Core i5-8500 with a Radeon RX 5500 XT/GeForce GTX 1060. For the listed recommended target, move to a Ryzen 5 5600/Core i5-11600K and Radeon RX 6700 XT/GeForce RTX 2080.
Those specifications are launch requirements, not a universal frame-rate promise. Your resolution, preset, ray tracing, upscaling mode, frame generation and software configuration all change the result. Use the requirements as a compatibility filter, then tune and measure on your own system.
Official Crimson Desert PC requirements
Pearl Abyss published its PC performance-specification notice on 10 March 2026, while Steam lists the following Windows configuration. Both tiers require a 64-bit installation of Windows 10, DirectX 12, an SSD and 150 GB of available storage.

The 16 GB memory and 150 GB SSD figures come from the 2026 Steam listing. Pearl Abyss also states that the latest DirectX 12 is required. The listing names Windows 10, but it does not provide a separate Windows 11 tier; treat the published requirement as the supported reference rather than assuming performance on an unlisted configuration.

What “minimum” means
The minimum tier is the floor for meeting the published hardware specification. It does not identify a guaranteed resolution, preset or frame rate. A computer that just matches the minimum can still need reduced image-quality settings, upscaling or a lower target resolution in demanding areas.
What “recommended” means
The recommended tier is a stronger starting point for modern settings, but it is not a promise of a fixed FPS number. The RTX 2080 and RX 6700 XT are different architectures, and the rest of the system, display resolution and selected features matter. Compare your complete configuration rather than treating one component as a guarantee.
Can your PC run Crimson Desert?
Check the following items before installing:
- Your operating system is 64-bit Windows 10 or a configuration that meets the published Windows requirement.
- Your processor is at least a Ryzen 5 2600X or Core i5-8500.
- Your graphics card is at least an RX 5500 XT or GTX 1060.
- You have 16 GB of system RAM.
- You have an SSD with 150 GB free for the installation.
- DirectX 12 is available and functioning.
If any item falls below the minimum, the official specification does not establish that the game will run acceptably. In particular, 8 GB of RAM, a mechanical hard drive or a DirectX 11-only graphics path is below the stated baseline. If every item meets the minimum, plan to start conservatively and use the in-game preview to find a stable combination.
What the available performance testing shows
High-end 1440p ultrawide example
TechRadar tested Crimson Desert with an RTX 4080 Super, Ryzen 7 5700X3D and 32 GB of RAM. At a native 3440×1440 resolution on the maximum Cinematic preset, with no upscaling, the reviewer reported around 70 frames per second or more in multiple graphically intense scenarios. That is an observation from one high-end configuration, not a result that can be transferred directly to an RTX 2080, RX 6700 XT or any other PC.
The test is useful because it shows that demanding native ultrawide rendering can be playable on substantially faster hardware. It does not tell you what a minimum-tier system will deliver, nor does it establish performance at 1080p, 4K, another preset, ray tracing or frame generation.

CPU scaling at 1080p
Tom’s Hardware examined CPU scaling at native 1080p, with no upscaling or frame generation, using the Ultra preset and ray tracing disabled. In that test set, the publication described the Core i5-14600K/Ryzen 7 9700X range as a practical performance sweet spot. The result is a CPU-scaling observation under those exact conditions; it is not a replacement for the official minimum and recommended CPU listings.
When comparing any benchmark, keep resolution, preset, ray-tracing state, upscaler, frame-generation state and the base frame rate aligned. Changing one of those variables can make two apparently similar FPS numbers answer different questions.
A settings order that produces reliable results
- Confirm the baseline. Verify the SSD, 150 GB of free space, 16 GB of RAM and DirectX 12 before changing visual options. A settings tweak cannot compensate for a missing requirement.
- Choose the display target. Set the resolution you actually intend to play at—1080p, 1440p, ultrawide or 4K—before judging performance. Resolution changes the rendering workload and can change which component limits FPS.
- Pick a starting preset. Begin with the preset closest to your hardware tier. Use the game’s settings preview while changing options so you can see the expected visual and performance effect before committing.
- Establish a native or upscaled baseline. Measure native rendering first when your system can respond consistently. Then compare DLSS or FSR upscaling at the same resolution and preset. Record the result rather than relying on a short impression from a menu or quiet scene.
- Test ray tracing separately. Treat ray tracing as its own quality/performance decision. Measure it at your intended resolution and preset, then compare against the same setup with ray tracing disabled. Do not combine a ray-tracing change with an upscaler change if you want to know which adjustment helped.
- Add frame generation last. Crimson Desert exposes DLSS and FSR Frame Generation toggles that can be changed without restarting, according to TechRadar. First make the underlying, non-generated frame rate feel responsive; only then test frame generation and assess image quality and input response.
- Validate in demanding gameplay. Recheck open-world traversal and combat, not just a quiet interior or menu. Those scenes are more likely to reveal sustained drops, streaming-related hitching or a CPU limit.
How to choose between native rendering, upscaling and frame generation
Native resolution
Native rendering is the clearest reference point because every output pixel is rendered at the selected display resolution. It also creates the largest workload. Use it as your baseline when the frame rate is already stable enough for your target.
DLSS or FSR upscaling
DLSS and FSR provide an alternative to lowering the display resolution outright. Compare each option at the same output resolution and preset, and inspect moving foliage, distant detail and combat effects rather than judging a static screenshot. The game allows these toggles to be changed without a restart, which makes controlled A/B testing practical.
Frame generation
Frame generation inserts generated frames between conventionally rendered frames. It can make motion appear smoother, but it does not remove the latency of the underlying frame production. If the base frame rate feels sluggish, frame generation should not be used to disguise that problem. Evaluate responsiveness separately from the displayed FPS number.

Diagnosing the limiting part of your PC
If the graphics card is the limit
Start by comparing native rendering with DLSS or FSR at the same output resolution. If upscaling produces a substantial improvement, the rendering workload is likely the primary constraint. You can then decide whether to keep the upscaler, reduce the preset or disable a costly feature such as ray tracing. Make one change at a time so the trade-off remains visible.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the processor is the limit
A lower output resolution does not always solve a CPU-bound situation, because the processor still has to simulate the world and prepare frames. Compare results at the same preset with and without frame generation, and test busy open-world areas rather than relying on a simple graphics scene. The Tom’s Hardware CPU-scaling test reinforces why processor comparisons must use identical settings.
If memory or storage is the limit
Sixteen gigabytes of RAM is the published requirement for both tiers, so systems below that amount do not meet the official baseline. The game also requires an SSD and 150 GB free. Keep the installation on an SSD with that space available; a drive that is nearly full can make it difficult to maintain the required headroom for the installation and updates, even though the listing specifies the minimum free capacity rather than an additional reserve.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Upgrade priorities based on the published tiers
Storage first when you do not have an SSD
An SSD is mandatory in the Steam requirements, and the installation needs 150 GB of available space. A 1 TB NVMe SSD is a practical capacity class for the game plus the operating system and other applications, but the official requirement itself is 150 GB free; it does not require a particular SSD interface or model.
Graphics card for higher presets and resolutions
The recommended GPU reference is the Radeon RX 6700 XT or GeForce RTX 2080. If your current card is near the minimum RX 5500 XT/GTX 1060 tier, a move toward the recommended class gives you more headroom for higher output resolutions and visual features. Actual FPS still depends on the chosen preset, ray tracing, upscaler and frame-generation state.

Processor for consistent open-world frame times
The listed CPU step is from Ryzen 5 2600X/Core i5-8500 to Ryzen 5 5600/Core i5-11600K. Independent CPU testing at 1080p found a practical sweet spot around the Core i5-14600K/Ryzen 7 9700X range under Ultra, native rendering, no frame generation and disabled ray tracing. That newer test describes scaling behavior, not a required purchase target.
Memory capacity
Both official tiers specify 16 GB, so adding memory is a compatibility upgrade only when your system is below that figure. More memory is not an automatic FPS upgrade once the published requirement is met; investigate the graphics card, processor and selected settings first.
Troubleshooting common requirement and performance problems
The game will not launch
Recheck the three hard requirements most likely to block startup: a 64-bit Windows installation, DirectX 12 and an SSD with at least 150 GB free. If your hardware is below the minimum tier, there is no official performance expectation to rely on.
Performance is lower than an online benchmark
Match the benchmark conditions before drawing a conclusion. Confirm resolution, preset, ray tracing, upscaling, frame generation and the base FPS before frame generation. The TechRadar result used an RTX 4080 Super, Ryzen 7 5700X3D, 32 GB RAM, native 3440×1440 and Cinematic settings; a different configuration is not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Frame generation feels unresponsive
Disable it temporarily and judge the underlying frame rate. If the non-generated result does not feel responsive, lower the workload with an appropriate preset or upscaler first. Re-enable frame generation only after the base presentation is satisfactory.
Performance changes between areas
Use repeatable routes through open-world traversal and combat when testing. Pearl Abyss cautions that results vary with hardware, software configuration and individual graphics settings, so a single short scene cannot represent every workload.
Quick Recap
Bottom line for different PC tiers
- Below minimum: Upgrade to the published 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, SSD and CPU/GPU baseline before expecting a supported experience.
- At minimum: Treat the system as a low-settings starting point and tune resolution, preset and upscaling methodically.
- At recommended: Begin with the recommended preset, then measure ray tracing and upscaling separately at your target resolution.
- Above recommended: Native high-resolution or Cinematic testing becomes more realistic, but frame generation should still be evaluated after the base frame rate and latency feel right.
