Usually, no: a phone that is still locked to Cricket generally cannot be used on AT&T just by inserting an AT&T SIM. First request an unlock from Cricket if the phone qualifies, then check the exact model and variant against AT&T’s current compatibility information. Unlocking removes a carrier restriction; it does not guarantee that AT&T supports the phone or all of its features.
Why a Cricket-locked phone usually will not work on AT&T
A carrier lock restricts which carrier’s SIM or service the phone can use. Cricket says its devices are designed for and locked to Cricket. Changing SIM cards does not remove that restriction, so an AT&T SIM alone is not a way around the lock. See Cricket’s device unlock policy.
There are two separate checks: whether Cricket will unlock the phone, and whether AT&T supports that particular phone once it is unlocked. A positive answer to the first does not settle the second.

Check whether Cricket will unlock the phone
Under Cricket’s currently published policy, the required period of paid service depends on when the phone was purchased. Other conditions also apply:

- The device must be designed for and locked to Cricket, have an internet connection, and not be reported lost or stolen or associated with fraud.
These are Cricket’s eligibility requirements, not a guarantee of approval in every case. Review the current policy and follow its instructions, since requirements and steps can change.
Request the unlock using the instructions for your device
Cricket’s process varies by phone type. Its support page describes an online request route for current customers’ iPhones, app-based options for most Android devices, and separate instructions for certain newer Cricket or Motorola devices. For some Cricket or Motorola devices launched in 2025 or later, Cricket specifies a Cricket Device Unlock app. Use the current directions on Cricket’s unlock-policy page rather than assuming one method applies to every phone.

Check the exact phone model with AT&T
After Cricket confirms the phone is unlocked, identify its precise model number and variant. You can usually find the model number in the phone’s settings or on the original packaging. Then use AT&T’s current compatibility information or checker to confirm that exact device can be activated and supports the service you need, including calling, texting, data, and any relevant network features.
Do not rely on a general statement that an “unlocked phone” works with AT&T: compatibility is device-specific, and the available information here does not establish a result for an unnamed model. Cricket’s own BYOD guidance says its list is partial and recommends an IMEI check for Cricket compatibility; that check is not an AT&T compatibility result. See Cricket’s BYOD compatibility guidance.

Do not confuse the carrier direction
Cricket says most new HD Voice devices purchased from AT&T since 2019 work on Cricket’s HD Voice network when running the latest software. That statement concerns AT&T-origin phones used on Cricket. It does not show that a Cricket-locked phone will work on AT&T, nor does it replace AT&T’s model-specific compatibility check. See Cricket’s compatibility guidance.

What to do if AT&T does not accept the phone
- If the phone is still locked, check its purchase date and paid-service history, then contact Cricket or use the applicable unlock instructions.
- If Cricket has unlocked it but AT&T’s checker does not confirm compatibility, ask AT&T about the exact model and IMEI before switching or relying on service.
- If the phone is compatible but a specific feature is not confirmed, verify that feature with AT&T before moving your primary line.
