Use the CurseForge NeoForge server pack for Minecraft 1.21.1, not the client download. The newest release currently listed on the project page is 0.4.2, and a practical server should have at least 10 GB of RAM, a strong single-thread CPU, Java 21, and exactly the NeoForge version required by the selected pack file. The instructions below cover version selection, installation, tuning for trains and automation, updates, and the failures most likely to stop a server from starting.

What Create World of Gears is

Create World of Gears – Create Aeronautics is a modpack by ManiacVII distributed through CurseForge. It targets Minecraft 1.21.1 and uses NeoForge server packs. The pack is built around the Create ecosystem, so moving machines, contraptions, trains, and large automated factories can place more sustained load on the CPU than a lightly modded survival world.

Some hosting listings identify the pack as “HP – Create World of Gears – Create 6.0.10.” That indicates Create 6.0.10 is bundled in at least some builds, but the authoritative version for your installation is the mod list inside the exact CurseForge file you download. Do not assume every release contains the same Create build.

Current release to start with

The CurseForge project page currently lists 0.4.2 as the newest release. Its server file is named HP-CWoG-1.21.1-S-0.4.2-ServerPack. Use the Files tab on CurseForge immediately before installation because third-party indexes can lag behind the project page and search summaries have shown conflicting release numbers, including an unconfirmed 0.4.0 entry dated September 17, 2026.

Server pack versus client pack

Download the file explicitly labeled ServerPack. A client pack contains the launcher-side files and is not a substitute for a server distribution. Installing the client archive on a dedicated server commonly leaves out startup scripts, server configuration, or the expected NeoForge layout.

Release or listing What is established How to use the information
0.4.2 Newest release listed on the CurseForge project page; server pack name includes HP-CWoG-1.21.1-S-0.4.2-ServerPack. Preferred starting point unless your players must remain on another release.
0.3.2 CurseForge file page identifies Minecraft 1.21.1, Create 6.0.10, and a server pack of about 398 MB. Use only when every client and the server are deliberately pinned to 0.3.2.
0.2.6 An older server pack is listed at about 365.8 MB. Legacy option; do not mix it with newer clients or an existing world without a tested backup.
0.4.0 A search summary reported a September 17, 2026 release, but that entry was not confirmed on a fetched CurseForge page. Do not select it solely because an index or search result displays it.

Record the exact build

Before extracting files, write down the release number, Minecraft version, NeoForge version shown in the file metadata, and the archive checksum if your hosting panel provides one. Every player should install the matching client profile. Keeping this small record prevents a later update from silently changing one component while the rest of the group remains on the old build.

Hardware and hosting requirements

Memory

Plan for 10 GB of RAM as the practical minimum. Game Host Bros lists at least 10 GB and allocates 7.8 GB to Java at startup in its server configuration. CreeperHost lists 5,000 MB as a minimum, while ModReady’s general Create guidance gives 6–8 GB for Create packs and 10 GB or more for communities of 15 or more players. The 5 GB figure is best treated as a bare boot threshold, not a comfortable target for a world with trains and factories.

Leave memory for the operating system and the server process itself. If a host sells memory in fixed increments, choose the next tier above 10 GB rather than assigning every available megabyte to Java. More RAM cannot compensate for a CPU that cannot process contraption ticks quickly enough.

Source or scenario Published figure Interpretation
Game Host Bros listing 10 GB minimum; 7.8 GB allocated to Java at startup Useful baseline for a small dedicated server.
CreeperHost listing 5,000 MB minimum RAM; 15 GB minimum SSD Likely a minimum-to-start figure; inadequate planning target for a busy Create world.
ModReady general Create guidance 6–8 GB for “All of Create”; 10 GB or more for 15+ players Supports budgeting at least 10 GB when several players or large factories are expected.

CPU

Create automation is frequently CPU-bound. ModReady’s guidance says CPU matters more than RAM for large Create installations, and CreeperHost specifies a minimum of two 4.5 GHz CPU cores while stressing strong CPU performance for Create bases. Clock speed alone is not a complete benchmark, but prioritize a modern processor with strong single-thread performance over a platform that offers large memory on weak cores.

Expect load to rise when players operate trains, chunk-load multiple factories, or build dense redstone and kinetic networks. A server that starts successfully with one player can still stutter when several players activate separate production areas.

Storage

Reserve room for the extracted server pack, logs, backups, region files, and future world growth. CreeperHost lists 15 GB of SSD storage as a minimum. Treat that as a floor: a fresh pack may fit, but repeated backups and a long-running world can consume the remainder quickly. SSD storage also reduces pauses during chunk generation and world saves compared with slow mechanical disks.

Software prerequisites

Java

General guidance for Minecraft 1.21.x modpacks is Java 21. ModReady identifies Java 21 for 1.21.x; this is general version guidance rather than a pack-specific statement. Confirm the Java requirement shown on the selected CurseForge file or included startup script before launching.

  1. Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime on the server machine.
  2. Run java -version in the server account’s terminal and verify that the reported major version is 21.
  3. If the command reports an older Java, update the system path or set the startup script to the full path of the Java 21 executable.
  4. Run the server under a dedicated account when your operating system supports one; avoid using an administrator account for routine play.

NeoForge and Minecraft matching

The server must use the same Minecraft version, modloader, and NeoForge version as the clients. Apex Hosting’s general NeoForge guidance specifically warns that the NeoForge version must match. The exact NeoForge build for Create World of Gears was not confirmed in the available pack summaries, so do not guess it from another 1.21.1 modpack.

Read the NeoForge version from the selected CurseForge file metadata or the pack’s included installer and startup files. If the server starts but clients receive a mod-list or network-channel mismatch, compare those values first.

Install the dedicated server

1. Prepare a clean directory

Create a new folder dedicated to this world. Do not extract over another modpack, and do not reuse a directory that contains a different NeoForge installation. A clean directory makes it possible to identify missing files and roll back an update.

2. Extract the server archive

Extract the downloaded HP-CWoG-1.21.1-S-0.4.2-ServerPack archive, or the server-pack archive for the release you selected, directly into the new folder. Preserve the directory structure supplied by the pack. Do not rename individual mods or remove files to make a client connect.

3. Accept the EULA

Start the supplied server script once. It should generate the normal configuration and EULA files before stopping. Open eula.txt, read the Minecraft EULA, and change only the EULA acceptance value required by the file. Start the server again after saving.

4. Use the included launcher

Prefer the pack’s included Windows or Linux startup script because it carries the intended NeoForge arguments. If the script asks for a memory value, set an initial and maximum allocation appropriate for the machine, keeping operating-system headroom. Do not copy a launch command from a different modpack: NeoForge libraries and argument files can differ between releases.

5. Confirm a first boot

Wait for the console to report that the server has finished loading before connecting. The first launch may take longer while libraries, configuration files, and the initial world are created. Stop the server through its console command rather than closing the terminal abruptly so the world can save cleanly.

Configure a playable Create world

View distance and simulation distance

ModReady’s general Create setup suggests starting with view-distance=10 and simulation-distance=6. These are starting values, not guarantees. View distance controls how far terrain is sent to clients; simulation distance controls how far entities and block activity continue to tick. Lower simulation distance first if factories or trains cause tick delays, then raise it only after observing stable performance.

Player access and basic safety

  • Set a strong server operator password policy and grant operator status only to administrators.
  • Use a whitelist for a private group instead of exposing the world to unknown players.
  • Change the world seed and gameplay settings before inviting players if you want a controlled start; record those choices for future recovery.
  • Keep the server software and modpack files in a directory that ordinary player accounts cannot modify.

Backups

Stop the server cleanly before taking a full backup, or use a snapshot method that is explicitly safe for a running Minecraft world. Keep at least one backup away from the server machine. Test restoring a copy before you need it; a backup that was never restored is only an assumption.

Connect clients correctly

  1. Have every player install the same Minecraft 1.21.1 profile and the same Create World of Gears release as the server.
  2. Use the modpack’s client installation for players, not the server archive.
  3. Verify that the NeoForge version in each client matches the server exactly.
  4. Connect only after the server console shows a completed startup and the world has generated.
  5. If a player gets a missing-mod, registry, or network-channel error, compare the client’s mod list and versions with the server directory rather than deleting random files.

Updating without breaking the world

Plan the update

Do not replace files while the server is running. Announce downtime, stop the server cleanly, and make a dated backup of the world, configuration, and current server pack. Keep the old directory intact until the new release has been tested.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Test in a copy

Duplicate the world into a staging directory and install the candidate server pack there. Join with one client using the same candidate release. Check that existing trains, chunk-loaded factories, storage networks, and frequently visited bases load correctly before promoting the update.

Roll back safely

If the updated server crashes, reports missing registries, or damages a contraption, stop it and restore the previous directory and backup. Do not repeatedly launch a failing build against the only copy of the world; each launch can write additional migration data.

Troubleshooting common failures

The server exits immediately

  • Run java -version; Java 21 is the general requirement for Minecraft 1.21.x packs.
  • Read the first error in the log, not only the final “server stopped” line.
  • Confirm that you extracted the ServerPack and retained its libraries, scripts, and configuration files.
  • Check that the NeoForge build matches the pack metadata and that the server is using 64-bit Java.

Clients cannot join because of a mismatch

Compare Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, the mod list, and each mod’s version on both sides. A client on 0.4.2 cannot be expected to join a 0.3.2 server reliably, even if both are labeled 1.21.1. Reinstall the complete matching client profile instead of copying individual jars.

The server runs out of memory

Check the Java allocation in the startup script and the host’s actual memory limit. Move toward the 10 GB planning baseline, leave headroom for the operating system, and remove unnecessary simultaneous workloads. Increasing memory will not fix CPU-bound tick lag, so inspect timings as well when the symptom is slow machines rather than a crash.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Trains or factories cause severe lag

  • Reduce simulation distance from the starting value of 6 and retest.
  • Ask players to avoid activating many distant factories at once while you identify the bottleneck.
  • Move heavy automation into fewer loaded areas and avoid permanently chunk-loading unused machinery.
  • Upgrade to a host CPU with stronger single-thread performance before simply adding RAM.

The world will not load after an update

Stop the server, restore the pre-update backup, and verify that the client and server release are identical. If the old copy loads, the issue is version migration or a mod incompatibility rather than a general hardware failure. Keep the failed directory for log inspection, but never experiment on the only world copy.

Recommended baseline

For a small private community, the conservative baseline is Minecraft 1.21.1, the latest CurseForge release listed for the pack (currently 0.4.2), its matching NeoForge server pack, Java 21, at least 10 GB of RAM, SSD storage with more than the 15 GB minimum listing, and a modern CPU with strong single-thread performance. Start with view distance 10 and simulation distance 6, then adjust simulation distance downward if trains and factories create tick delays. Keep every client on the same release and retain tested backups before updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I run the 0.3.2 server pack with 0.4.2 clients?

No reliable compatibility should be assumed. Use the same modpack release, Minecraft version, and NeoForge version on both sides; keep 0.3.2 clients with a 0.3.2 server unless you have tested a specific migration.

Is 5 GB of RAM enough for this pack?

It may satisfy a bare hosting minimum, but it is below the 10 GB planning baseline recommended for a Create-focused server. Expect less headroom for multiple players, trains, and large factories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where do I find the exact NeoForge version?

Check the metadata for the selected CurseForge server-pack file and the included installer or startup files. Do not infer it from another NeoForge pack targeting Minecraft 1.21.1.
