Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
To host a Create: Perfect World server, download the pack’s matching server-files archive, run it with a compatible 64-bit Java installation, accept the Minecraft EULA in eula.txt, verify that the complete modpack works on the host, and only then expose the server to friends. The listed release is Perfect World-1.0 for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, dated March 14, 2024. Use that release’s server files rather than combining files from another pack version.
What you need before starting
A modded server is a matched software installation, not just a world folder. The server and every connecting player must agree on Minecraft, Forge, mods, and configuration files. A mismatch can stop startup, reject a connection, or produce errors that look like networking problems.

- The Create: Perfect World release you intend to run. The listed release is Perfect World-1.0 for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge.
- The server-files archive published with that release on the pack’s CurseForge Files page.
- A computer or rented server that can remain online while people play.
- A 64-bit Java installation compatible with the Forge build included by the pack.
- Permission to create files, open the local firewall, and—if hosting at home—change the router’s port-forwarding rules.
- A backup location with enough space for the world and configuration files.
Mojang’s Java Edition server guidance says Java must be installed and up to date on the host so it can run .jar files. Forge’s current documentation specifies a 64-bit JVM and Java 21 for its current branch, but a Minecraft 1.20.1 installation can belong to an older Forge branch with a different runtime requirement. Treat the pack’s installer and server log as authoritative for this release; do not force Java 21 merely because it is current for another Forge branch.

Home hosting
Home hosting avoids a recurring provider bill and gives you direct access to the files, but your computer, internet connection, and power must be available whenever players want to connect. You are responsible for Java updates, Forge and modpack updates, world backups, firewall rules, router forwarding, and diagnosing crashes. A desktop that sleeps or changes local IP addresses can make an otherwise healthy server appear offline.

Managed Minecraft hosting
A managed host normally supplies a public endpoint and a control panel, so you do not have to configure your home router. The trade-off is a recurring fee and possible limits on memory, CPU, storage, player slots, backups, or modpack installation. Exact provider prices and terms vary and are not established here. Confirm that the plan supports Forge 1.20.1, custom server files, scheduled backups, and the pack’s total mod list before paying.
| Consideration | Home computer | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Recurring host fee | No provider fee, although electricity and internet costs remain. | Monthly or yearly fee; the exact amount depends on the provider and resources. |
| Public address | You configure the router and may need to handle a changing public address. | Usually supplied by the provider. |
| Administration | You maintain Java, Forge, files, firewall, backups, and updates. | The panel simplifies routine controls, but you still maintain pack compatibility and backups. |
| Capacity | Bound by the computer’s available CPU, memory, storage, and upload bandwidth. | Bound by the selected plan’s resource and player limits. |
| Best fit | A small group comfortable with networking and system maintenance. | A group that values an always-on endpoint and a managed control panel. |
Download the correct server files
1. Open the pack’s Files page
Find Create: Perfect World on CurseForge and open the Files page for the release you want. Select the server-files download associated with Perfect World-1.0, listed for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. The archive is named Perfect World-1.0 – server files.zip in the listing.
2. Keep the release together
Do not download a client profile from one release and server files from another. Do not replace individual mods with files copied from a newer or older release unless you have checked every dependency and configuration change. The Minecraft version, Forge build, mods, scripts, and configuration files form one tested set.
3. Create a dedicated server directory
Make a new folder used only by this server. Extract the archive directly into it rather than running from a downloads folder. A dedicated directory keeps logs, world data, configuration, crash reports, and launcher files together and makes backups and upgrades safer. Avoid storing it inside a cloud-synchronized folder that may lock or partially synchronize files while the server is writing.
Before the first launch, inspect the extracted contents. A supplied archive may contain a launcher, a Forge server jar, libraries, a mods directory, configuration directories, scripts, or a readme. Preserve the directory structure. If the archive does not contain a usable launcher, install Forge’s server component for the exact Minecraft and Forge version associated with the pack; never substitute a Forge build selected only because it is newer.

java -version
Confirm that the command succeeds and identifies a 64-bit Java installation. If the command is not found, install a current 64-bit Java distribution and reopen the terminal. If multiple Java installations are present, the server launcher may use a different one from the version shown in your shell; check the launcher’s configured path or use the full path to the intended executable.
Resolve the 1.20.1 versus current-Forge difference
Forge’s current documentation calls for Java 21, while older Minecraft branches can require an older Java runtime. The Create: Perfect World listing identifies Minecraft 1.20.1, so use the Java requirement of the Forge build packaged for that release. Read the server launcher output and the first startup log: a message about an unsupported class version, an unavailable Java feature, or an invalid JVM is evidence that the selected runtime does not match. Change Java only after identifying the version requirement; changing mods at the same time makes the failure harder to isolate.
Use one runtime consistently
Run the server and any Forge installer with the same intended Java executable. A common failure is installing Forge with one Java version and later launching the generated server script with another. Record the result of java -version in your setup notes so an update or migration does not silently switch runtimes.
Start Forge and accept the EULA
First launch
Run the launcher or script supplied in the extracted server directory. If the archive has no launcher, use the Forge server installer for the exact pack version and choose the server installation option. Forge creates its run files in the server directory during the first dedicated-server start.
Recommended Free Tools
The first run may stop immediately. That is expected when the EULA has not yet been accepted. Look for eula.txt in the run directory. Open it in a plain-text editor, change the acceptance line to:
eula=true
Save the file without adding quotation marks, then start the server again. Forge documents this first-run shutdown and the need to edit eula.txt. Accept the EULA only if the people operating the server agree to its terms; changing the line is an acknowledgement, not a way to bypass those terms.

Wait for a completed startup
Keep the console visible on the first successful launch. A ready server normally continues running and reports that it has finished loading or is listening for connections. Do not close the console window to “free” the computer; closing it usually stops the server. Use the server’s normal stop command or its console stop action when shutting down.
Do not interrupt world creation
The first start can take longer while Forge loads libraries, generates configuration, and creates the world. Let it finish before judging performance. If it exits, copy the complete console error and inspect the newest log or crash report before changing files.
Match every player’s client to the server
Each player should install the same Create: Perfect World release and the same Minecraft and Forge versions as the server. Copying only the visible Create-related mods is insufficient: dependencies, libraries, scripts, resource settings, and configuration files can affect compatibility.
- Use the exact client profile corresponding to the server-files release.
- Keep the server’s
modsand configuration directories intact. - Do not add client-only jars to the dedicated server.
- Do not remove a jar because its name appears unrelated; first check whether another mod depends on it.
- Do not add performance, graphics, or convenience mods to the server unless their documentation says they support dedicated servers.
- When a pack update is required, update the server and every client as one planned change.
A client that reaches the server but reports a missing mod, mismatched mod list, or incompatible network channel has a content mismatch, not a port-forwarding problem. Restore the exact profile before investigating the router.
Prove the installation locally first
Testing from the host computer separates pack and Java problems from firewall and internet problems. Start the server and, from the same machine, add a multiplayer server using localhost as the address. Connect with a client that uses the matching pack profile.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Start the dedicated server and wait until startup completes.
- Launch the matching client profile on the host computer.
- Open Minecraft multiplayer, add a server, and enter
localhostas the address. - Join and move around long enough to confirm that the world loads and the server remains running.
- Stop the server cleanly and confirm that the world and logs were written before starting network configuration.
If localhost fails, fix the Java, Forge, mod list, configuration, or local firewall first. Testing a public address before this step adds router variables without proving that the installation itself works.

Let friends connect from outside your network
Home-router forwarding
For a home server, give the host computer a stable address on your local network, preferably through a DHCP reservation in the router. Then create a port-forwarding rule for TCP port 25565, the usual Minecraft port identified by CurseForge’s multiplayer guidance, pointing to that computer’s local address. If the server configuration uses a different port, forward the configured port instead and tell players to include it in the address.
Router labels differ. Look for sections named Port Forwarding, Virtual Server, NAT, or Applications. Select TCP (or TCP/UDP if the router offers no TCP-only choice), enter the external and internal port, select the host’s reserved local address, save, and apply the rule. Avoid exposing unrelated administrative ports.
Host firewall
Allow the Java server process or the selected TCP port through the operating system firewall. A router rule cannot bypass a host firewall that silently drops the connection. Prefer a rule limited to the server executable and the required network profile rather than disabling the firewall entirely.
Give players the right address
Players outside your home should use your public IP address, followed by :25565 only when the server does not use the default port or when the client requires the explicit port. Never give strangers the host computer’s private address such as a 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x address; those addresses work only inside the local network.
Recognize carrier-grade NAT
If localhost works, the firewall rule is correct, and forwarding appears correct but nobody outside the network can connect, your internet provider may place the connection behind carrier-grade NAT. In that arrangement, the router does not receive a directly reachable public address, so ordinary forwarding cannot make the server public. Ask the provider whether a public IPv4 address is available, use a network arrangement that supplies an inbound endpoint, or choose managed hosting.
Rented server
A managed or rented server normally gives you an address and panel without a home-router rule. You still need to install the exact Forge pack files, open the port in the provider’s firewall if required, accept the EULA, and verify the client/server match. Follow the provider’s console and file-transfer procedure rather than assuming it behaves like a home Windows or Linux machine.

Backups, updates, and routine operation
Back up the irreplaceable data
The world directory contains the progress that cannot be recreated by downloading the pack again. Stop the server cleanly before copying it. Back up the world and the server configuration before every modpack, Forge, Java, or settings change, and keep at least one copy outside the server computer.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Label backups with the date and the pack version.
- Keep a recent known-good backup and an older fallback rather than overwriting one copy.
- Include the world directory and configuration files; a backup of only the launcher is not a world backup.
- Test opening or restoring a backup periodically so a damaged archive is discovered before an emergency.
Update as a single change
Read the release notes for the target pack version, stop the server, make a backup, and replace the server files as a matched set. Have every player update the client profile before connecting. Do not update only one mod in the server’s mods directory unless the pack author and that mod’s compatibility information explicitly support it.
Monitor before tuning
No official Create: Perfect World CPU or RAM minimum is published in the available pack information. Do not rely on a made-up specification. Watch memory use, CPU load, startup messages, and tick-time or lag symptoms during the actual group’s play sessions. Increase resources or reduce concurrent load only in response to observed behavior, and change one variable at a time.
Stop safely
Use the server console’s normal stop command, wait for the save to complete, and then close the terminal or service. Pulling power or killing the process can leave region or player data incomplete. A clean stop is also required before making a reliable world backup.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| Symptom | Most likely area | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The server exits immediately on the first run. | EULA or initial setup. | Open eula.txt, set eula=true, save it in the actual run directory, and start again. |
| Java is not found or the launcher reports an invalid JVM. | Java installation or path. | Run java -version, install a 64-bit runtime, and ensure the Forge launcher uses that executable. |
| A class-version or Java-feature error appears. | Runtime does not match the Forge branch. | Use the Java version required by the 1.20.1 Forge build packaged for the release; do not assume the current Forge Java requirement applies. |
| Startup reports a missing dependency or duplicate mod. | Incomplete or mixed files. | Restore the exact server-files archive, remove unapproved additions, and compare the server’s mods and configuration with the release. |
| Localhost cannot connect. | Server, Java, Forge, pack, or local firewall. | Read the console and latest log, confirm startup completed, and test with the matching client before changing router settings. |
| Localhost works but an outside player cannot connect. | Firewall, forwarding, public address, or carrier-grade NAT. | Check the host firewall, stable local address, TCP 25565 rule, public address, and whether the ISP blocks inbound connections. |
| A player gets a mod-list or network-channel mismatch. | Client/server profiles differ. | Install the same pack release, Minecraft version, Forge build, mods, and configuration on that client. |
| The world becomes laggy after more players join. | Observed resource or tick load. | Monitor CPU, memory, disk, and tick behavior; reduce load or allocate resources based on measurements rather than an assumed minimum. |
| The server loses progress after a crash. | Missing or untested backups. | Stop the replacement server, preserve the damaged directory for diagnosis, and restore the most recent verified world backup. |
Read logs before changing settings
Copy the first meaningful error and the surrounding lines from the console or newest log. The last line is often only the consequence of an earlier dependency, Java, or file error. Keep the original log when asking for help; deleting it removes the evidence needed to identify the failed mod or loader stage.
