Use the official Create – Forge Frontier v3.1.5 Server Pack for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. Extract that 1.1 GB distribution into an empty server folder, run its supplied Forge launch files, accept the EULA, configure access, and have every player install the matching v3.1.5 client profile. Worlds made with v3.0.0 or newer can be upgraded to v3.1.5; worlds from before v3.0.0 need a fresh world.
What you need before installing
Create – Forge Frontier is a Create-focused modpack by LandscapesReimagined. The project combines automation with exploration, quests, custom progression, redesigned dimensions, and planetary or endgame content. Its supported target for this guide is Minecraft 1.20.1 with the Forge loader.

Required software and files
- A purchased Minecraft Java Edition installation that can run Minecraft 1.20.1.
- The official Create – Forge Frontier – v3.1.5 Server Pack.zip, not the ordinary client ZIP.
- A launcher that can install the v3.1.5 client profile, such as CurseForge or another launcher able to reproduce the same profile.
- The Forge runtime and any Java runtime specified by the downloaded release files.
- A separate, otherwise-empty directory for the server files.
- Enough memory for the chosen player count and factory size. The project guidance is at least 4 GB, with 6–8 GB recommended for larger factories, multiplayer servers, or long sessions.
The public project pages do not state an exact Java major version or Forge build number. Do not infer either value from a generic Minecraft tutorial. Read the values in the v3.1.5 launch scripts, installer metadata, or README, then use that same runtime and Forge build for the server and all clients.

Which Forge Frontier download is the server pack?
Download the release explicitly labeled v3.1.5 Server Pack. Its filename is Create - Forge Frontier - v3.1.5 Server Pack.zip and its listed size is approximately 1.1 GB. This archive is the author’s complete dedicated-server distribution and includes the launch files intended to start the modded server.
Do not rename an ordinary client ZIP and do not combine an older server pack with the v3.1.5 client. A client archive may contain files arranged for a launcher instance rather than a dedicated server, while an older server pack can contain different mods, recipes, registries, or configuration. Those differences commonly produce missing-mod errors, registry mismatches, failed handshakes, or a world that behaves differently from the client.
Preserve the original download
Keep the downloaded ZIP outside the live server directory. It is your clean rollback source if an extraction is interrupted or a configuration change makes the installation unusable. Also keep a separate copy of the world directory before the first update and before changing major server settings.
How to install a Forge Frontier v3.1.5 server
- Create a dedicated folder. Make a new directory used only by this server. Avoid placing it inside an existing vanilla or other modpack installation. An empty folder makes it easier to identify generated files, back up the world, and restore the pack.
- Extract the server ZIP. Unpack
Create - Forge Frontier - v3.1.5 Server Pack.zipdirectly into the new directory. After extraction, verify that the supplied launch scripts, Forge files, configuration directories, and mod files are present at the server-folder level rather than hidden inside an extra nested folder. - Inspect the supplied launch files. Open the Windows or Unix-style launch file included by the pack and note the Java executable expectations, memory arguments, Forge build, and working-directory assumptions. Use these files as provided instead of replacing them with a vanilla
java -jar server.jarcommand. - Run the supplied launcher once. Start the script appropriate to your operating system. The first run normally creates or updates files such as the EULA file, server properties, logs, configuration folders, and the world directory. Allow generation to finish, then stop the process cleanly from the console.
- Accept the Minecraft EULA. Open the generated EULA file, read the license, and change the acceptance entry only if you agree to it. Save the file, then start the supplied launch script again. The server software will not complete a normal startup while the EULA remains unaccepted.
- Review server.properties. Set the world name, difficulty, game mode, spawn protection, player limit, whitelist behavior, and network port according to your group. Use the port value shown in the file and in your hosting or router configuration; do not assume that a tutorial’s default applies to your installation.
- Set operator and whitelist access. Add an operator only for accounts that need administrative commands. Enable the whitelist for a private group and add each player’s exact Minecraft account name. Test that an unlisted account is rejected before sharing the server address.
- Configure backups. Decide where world backups will be stored, how often they will run, and how many generations you will retain. Keep backups outside the live world directory so deleting or replacing the server folder does not erase the only recovery copy.
- Start the server again and wait for a clean prompt. Watch the console for Forge loading errors, missing dependencies, registry warnings, or a failure to bind the configured network port. A successful startup should leave the server ready for a local connection without a repeating exception loop.
Windows notes
Run the pack’s supplied Windows batch or launcher file from the extracted directory. If a window closes immediately, launch the script from an already-open Command Prompt so the error remains visible. Check the Java path and the working directory shown in the script before changing system environment variables. Avoid downloading a random Java installer solely because a generic guide lists a different version; the release files are the authority for this pack.

Linux or macOS notes
Use the supplied shell-oriented launch file if one is included. If the operating system blocks execution, grant execute permission to that file and run it from the server directory. Preserve the script’s arguments and environment settings. Run the server under a dedicated user account when the machine is shared, and restrict write access to the server folder to the account that operates it.
Install the matching client for every player
Each player needs a v3.1.5 client profile on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. In CurseForge, install the latest v3.1.5 release of Create – Forge Frontier. Another launcher is acceptable only when it can reproduce the same release, Forge build, configuration, and mod list.
- Install or open your chosen launcher and select the Create – Forge Frontier v3.1.5 release.
- Confirm that the instance reports Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, not Fabric, NeoForge, or another Minecraft version.
- Open the instance’s memory settings and allocate at least 4 GB. Larger factories, multiplayer sessions, and extended play are better candidates for 6–8 GB, provided the computer has additional memory for the operating system and other applications.
- Launch the instance once in single-player or the launcher’s test mode so required files finish downloading and the profile reaches the main menu.
- Connect using the server address only after the server has completed a clean startup.
Do not manually add random versions of Create, KubeJS, Forge libraries, or other mods to solve a warning. First compare the client profile with the server pack. The server pack’s files and the launcher’s v3.1.5 manifest should be the baseline; an individually downloaded mod can introduce a second version or an incompatible dependency.
Test the server before inviting everyone
Testing privately catches most setup problems without putting a shared world at risk.

- Start the server and wait for the normal ready prompt.
- From the same machine, connect with a client using the v3.1.5 profile. If local connection fails, resolve the server error before changing router settings.
- Join with a second account or a player on another device. This checks authentication, whitelist rules, simultaneous connections, and the network path.
- Open a world area, place a few Create machines, travel through a portal or dimension that your progression has unlocked, and watch the server console for errors. This is a functional smoke test, not a performance benchmark.
- Stop the server using its console stop command, confirm that the world saves, and verify that your backup process produces a readable copy.
Common connection failures
- Missing mods or mismatched mod list: reinstall the v3.1.5 client profile and compare it with the extracted server pack. Do not mix releases.
- Incompatible Forge or Minecraft version: check both the launcher profile and the Forge value in the server’s release files. The supported target is Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
- Server starts but cannot be reached: verify the configured port, local firewall rule, router forwarding or VPN overlay, and the address being used. Keep the server private until a second-account test succeeds.
- Whitelist rejection: add the player’s exact account name from the server console and confirm that the whitelist is enabled for the intended group.
- Repeated startup exceptions: stop the server, preserve the logs, and restore the clean v3.1.5 pack or the last known-good backup. Avoid deleting individual mods as a first response.
How much RAM does Forge Frontier need?
LandscapesReimagined’s guidance is to allocate at least 4 GB. For larger factories, multiplayer servers, or extended sessions, the recommendation is 6–8 GB. These are project recommendations, not an independent benchmark or a guaranteed player-count limit.

Set memory in the client launcher for each player and in the server launch configuration for the dedicated process. Do not allocate all physical memory to Minecraft. The operating system, file cache, launcher, and other services still need room. Increase allocation only after observing pressure, and change one variable at a time so you can identify whether the symptom improves.

Safe migration procedure for v3.0.0 or later
- Stop the old server cleanly and wait for the save to finish.
- Copy the complete world directory to a separate backup location. Include the level data, player data, region files, dimensions, and any server-side configuration stored with the world.
- Keep the original server pack untouched so you can roll back.
- Extract v3.1.5 into a separate test directory rather than overwriting the old installation.
- Copy the backed-up world into the test installation and use the v3.1.5 launch files.
- Join with a v3.1.5 client and check inventories, Create machines, quests, progression, dimensions, and chunk-loaded areas.
- Only after the test succeeds should you schedule downtime, take one final backup, and promote the upgraded directory to production.
Never test an update on the only copy of a shared world. A version declared compatible can still expose configuration mistakes, incomplete backups, or a mod interaction that your particular build has not exercised.

What changed in v3.1.5 that matters to a server administrator?
The release is described as a maintenance, performance, and stability update rather than a major progression or world-generation reset. It still contains operational changes that administrators should understand.
Chunk loading
Create Power Loader is replaced by Chunk Loaders, with Create-based crafting and progression for the replacement system. Existing automation that depended on the older loader may need inspection after the update. Check which chunks remain active when no player is nearby, confirm that the new loader recipe is available at the expected progression stage, and watch server performance around heavily automated areas.
Recipes and registries
KubeJS recipes and registries were updated. Machines, ingredients, tags, or scripted recipes can therefore differ from an older installation. If a player reports that a familiar recipe disappeared, verify the v3.1.5 progression and script files before editing recipes manually. Keep local changes documented so a future update does not silently overwrite them.
Mob spawning
Natural spawning behavior changed for several mobs. Population differences after updating are not automatically evidence of a broken world. Compare the affected area in a test copy, review the server log for actual errors, and check that the new behavior fits your difficulty and gameplay settings.

ServerCore distance settings
Distance settings associated with ServerCore were reduced. This can alter how far entities or other server work are processed and may improve stability at the cost of simulation range. Record your prior settings, test farms and travel routes, and change values only when you understand the performance trade-off.
Choosing local self-hosting or managed hosting
Both approaches can run the same official server pack. The difference is who operates the machine, network, backups, and maintenance.

The official project FAQ states: "Official server packs are released alongside the modpack, and BisectHosting provides one-click deployment for players looking for a quick setup." Treat that as a hosting lead, not a guarantee of current template availability, price, region, uptime terms, or eligibility for any promotion. Verify those details directly before committing to a managed service.
When self-hosting is the better fit
- You want direct access to launch arguments, logs, KubeJS files, backups, and experimental configuration.
- The players are comfortable troubleshooting Java, firewalls, and router settings.
- The server can remain online without exposing a personal computer or home network unnecessarily.
When managed hosting is the better fit
- You need a public endpoint without configuring home-router forwarding.
- The group prefers a control panel, scheduled restarts, and provider-managed machine maintenance.
- You have confirmed that the provider’s current Forge Frontier template is v3.1.5-compatible and that its backup and restoration terms meet your needs.
Operational checklist for a reliable server
- Record the exact modpack version, Minecraft version, Forge build, and Java runtime used.
- Keep the original v3.1.5 Server Pack ZIP and a clean extracted copy.
- Use a separate test directory for upgrades and configuration experiments.
- Schedule backups before updates, recipe changes, dimension travel tests, and major factory builds.
- Retain more than one backup generation and periodically test restoration.
- Use a whitelist and grant operator privileges sparingly.
- Monitor console logs after startup, player joins, dimension changes, and heavy automation.
- Document any edited scripts, recipes, registries, or distance settings outside the server folder.
- Tell players to update their client only when the server release is ready, then have everyone use the same v3.1.5 profile.
Final setup decision
For a new installation, the dependable path is straightforward: Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge, the official v3.1.5 Server Pack, its supplied launch files, and matching v3.1.5 clients. Allocate at least 4 GB and move toward 6–8 GB when the factory or player group grows. Migrate only worlds beginning with v3.0.0 or later, and always test a backed-up copy first. Because the public pages omit the exact Java and Forge build values, copy those values from the downloaded release files rather than guessing.
