For a reliable dedicated server, run the CCA SERVER archive that matches the Create Colonies – AERONAUTICS client profile: Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. Install NeoForge in a clean directory, add the server-pack files, start it once to generate configuration and EULA files, then have every player use the identical client release. The project’s Files listing identifies the current matching line as client release Create Colonies – AERONAUTICS-10 and CCA SERVER 10.

A server that has the wrong Minecraft version, loader, mod list or configuration can fail to start or disconnect players even when the game itself is installed correctly.
Compatibility you must keep aligned

Do not assume that a newer client profile can use an older server ZIP. Keep a written record of the client file name, server archive name and NeoForge installer version used for each world.

Before installing the server
Install the Java Edition client
Players need Minecraft Java Edition, not the Bedrock edition. Install a launcher that can create modpack profiles and make sure everyone can start an unmodified 1.21.1 instance before adding the pack. The launcher’s profile should show both the Minecraft version and NeoForge loader after installation.
Choose a machine or host
You can run the server on a computer you control or on a managed Minecraft host. A self-hosted machine gives you direct access to JVM settings, configuration files, backups, logs and scheduled restarts. A managed service can simplify networking and maintenance, but only if it permits this exact NeoForge pack and lets you upload the official CCA SERVER archive.

The published pack pages do not state a definitive RAM minimum, Java major-version requirement, operating-system matrix, player limit or storage benchmark for this release. Do not copy a generic “modded server” number and present it as an official requirement. Confirm the Java runtime accepted by the current NeoForge installer, then size memory and CPU from your player count, view distance, world activity and observed logs.
Install the matching client profile first
- Open your launcher’s modpack or profile manager and select the official Create Colonies – AERONAUTICS project.
- Choose the release you intend to run. For the current files line, that is Create Colonies – AERONAUTICS-10.
- Confirm that the profile reports Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge before launching it.
- Start the profile once, reach the title screen and exit. This verifies that the client can load the pack and creates its local instance files.
- Give players the exact release identifier. Avoid telling them merely to install “the latest version,” because a later upload may no longer match your server world.
If the launcher offers several loader or game-version choices, do not substitute Fabric, Forge or another Minecraft version. The server and every client must use the NeoForge-compatible 1.21.1 profile selected for the pack.

Download the official CCA SERVER archive
- Open the Create Colonies – AERONAUTICS project on CurseForge and go to its Files listing.
- Locate the separate server distribution, labeled CCA SERVER. The listing identifies CCA SERVER 10 as the current server-pack line for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge.
- Download the release that corresponds to the client release you will distribute. Save the archive unchanged so you can verify it later.
- Keep older archives separate. CCA SERVER 9, for example, is a historical 618.7 MB ZIP uploaded May 16, 2026. Its release notes mention fixes and additions, including tanks not filling, but that note is not a guarantee about release 10.
The official server archive is safer than assembling mods manually because it supplies the server-side files intended for this pack. Do not copy a client instance wholesale unless the pack author specifically instructs you to do so.
Self-hosted installation, step by step
1. Create a clean server directory
Make a new directory dedicated to this world, such as a folder named for the pack and release. Keep it separate from any other Minecraft server and from previous CCA SERVER archives. A clean directory prevents stale mods, configs and world data from being silently mixed into the new installation.

2. Install NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1
Download the NeoForge installer appropriate for Minecraft 1.21.1 and run its server-install option, targeting the empty server directory. Follow the installer’s prompts rather than pasting a command copied from a different NeoForge revision. Installer revisions can generate different script names and JVM argument files.
When installation finishes, the directory should contain NeoForge server files and a launch script or generated argument layout. If the installer reports a missing Java runtime, install the Java version it explicitly requests and run the installer again; the pack’s retrieved pages do not publish a universal Java major-version requirement.

3. Extract the server pack
Extract the matching CCA SERVER archive into the NeoForge server directory. Allow the archive’s directories and files to be placed at the server root, not inside an extra nested folder. If your extraction tool shows a top-level directory, open it and verify that the NeoForge files and pack files are in the same server root before starting.
Do not merge files from CCA SERVER 9 and CCA SERVER 10, or combine a server archive with a different client release. If you change releases, use a fresh staging directory and migrate the world only after testing the new files on a copy.

Run the launch script generated by the NeoForge installer from the server directory. The exact script name and JVM argument layout vary by installer revision, so use the files present in your installation rather than guessing a java command.
The first run normally creates files such as eula.txt, server.properties, logs and configuration directories. It may stop and ask you to review the Minecraft EULA. Read the EULA and change its setting only if you agree to its terms; then start the server again.

5. Configure server.properties
Stop the server cleanly before editing configuration. Open server.properties in a plain-text editor and set the values appropriate for your group:
- Server name or message: identify the AERO SMP world and its pack release so players know which profile to use.
- Game mode and difficulty: choose the rules your group expects before the world is created.
- Whitelist: enable it for a private SMP and add players through the server console or the administration interface provided by your host.
- View distance and simulation distance: start conservatively, then adjust after observing CPU and memory use. The pack pages do not publish a recommended value.
- Port: retain the default unless another service uses it. If you change it, players must use the corresponding port and your firewall or host must allow it.
Save the file, restart the server and inspect the console for a successful “done” state without a repeating exception. Never edit files while the server is running unless the specific setting is documented as safe to reload.
6. Test locally before opening access
- Start the server with its generated launch script.
- From a client on the same machine or local network, connect using the server address shown by your operating system or host panel.
- Join with the exact Create Colonies – AERONAUTICS client profile.
- Confirm that a player can enter the world, accept the starting structure and access the expected quest and mod interfaces.
- Stop the server normally and confirm that the world,
configdirectory and pack-specific data remain in the server directory.
Only after a local test succeeds should you configure remote access. Port forwarding, firewall rules and public addresses differ by router, operating system and host; no single recipe is guaranteed for every environment.
Give players a matching installation
Send players the CurseForge profile name and exact release number, not a manually assembled mod list. Ask each player to verify Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge in the launcher before connecting. A client using a different pack release can produce missing-mod, registry or handshake errors even when the server is online.

When you update, distribute the new client release first and schedule a maintenance window. Keep the old profile available until every player has confirmed the new one launches. Never let players copy random files from the server into their client instance; use the published client pack release.

What to back up
- The complete world directory, including region, player and dimension data.
- The
configdirectory and any pack-specific data directories. server.properties, whitelist and operator files.- The exact CCA SERVER archive and NeoForge installer records used for that world.
Stop the server before taking a file-level backup, or use a host snapshot mechanism that guarantees a consistent save. Keep at least one copy outside the live server machine.

How to test an update
- Duplicate the world backup into a staging directory.
- Install the new NeoForge and CCA SERVER files in a separate directory.
- Start the staging server with the copied world and inspect logs for errors.
- Join with the new client profile and test quests, aircraft progression, Create automation and MineColonies data.
- Only then schedule the production update. Keep the previous server directory until the new world has been validated.
Do not downgrade a world casually. Changes to registries, recipes or mod data can make a later rollback unsafe, so restore the complete prior directory if you must return to the old release.
Troubleshooting common failures

Questions to ask a host before paying
- Can I upload and run the official CCA SERVER archive rather than selecting only a fixed catalog entry?
- Which NeoForge and Minecraft 1.21.1 versions are available, and can I choose the installer build?
- Can I access the console, logs,
configdirectory and world files? - Are scheduled restarts, whitelist management and custom JVM arguments supported?
- How often are backups made, how many restore points are retained and can I download them?
- What CPU share, memory allocation and storage limits apply to the plan?
- What happens to the world and backups if the subscription expires?
A host that cannot answer these questions clearly is a poor fit for a version-sensitive modpack, regardless of its advertised player count.
About alternative server tooling
General modpack documentation also describes Modrinth Servers, mrpack-install and the itzg/minecraft-server Docker image as ways to run server-side modpacks. Those tools do not establish that Create Colonies – AERONAUTICS is distributed or tested through Modrinth. For this pack, CurseForge and its separate CCA SERVER archive remain the authoritative distribution path unless the pack author publishes another method.
