To host Create a Colony – MineColonies / Create / MCA, first lock the exact CurseForge release, Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2, and its matching Forge build. Then choose either CurseForge’s managed server flow, which requires a compatible server pack, or a self-hosted Forge server with the same release’s mods and configuration. Every player must install the identical pack, loader, and configuration files.

What you are setting up

Create a Colony – MineColonies / Create / MCA is a Minecraft Java Edition modpack listed for Forge on Minecraft 1.19.2. Its central gameplay loop combines MineColonies settlement management with Create-style automation and the pack’s exploration, planning, trading, and village-management focus. MineColonies provides the town infrastructure: players place a colony, recruit NPC workers, assign jobs, and expand specialized buildings. Create supplies the machinery and logistics theme that helps the settlement operate at larger scale.

This guide covers a multiplayer server for that specific 1.19.2 Forge project. MineColonies also publishes releases for other Minecraft versions and for NeoForge, but those files are not interchangeable with a Forge 1.19.2 installation. Treat the pack release, Minecraft version, Forge version, mods, and configuration files as one locked set.

What players can expect

MineColonies supports workers such as builders, farmers, guards, miners, bakers, cooks, couriers, and animal herders. A growing settlement can include a warehouse, town hall, barracks, library, university, and school, along with many other worker and production buildings. Before anyone joins, agree on whether the server will run one shared colony or several independent colonies, who may place important buildings, and how land and resources will be allocated.

Pin the release before downloading

Do not begin by downloading “the latest” files from several pages. Open the exact Create a Colony listing and record the following values from the same release:

  • Pack name and release number.
  • Minecraft version: the cited project is 1.19.2.
  • Mod loader: Forge, not NeoForge.
  • Forge build required by that release.
  • Whether a dedicated server pack is supplied.
  • The release’s configuration files and any optional resource or shader files.

Save that information in a small text file alongside the server files. If the pack author updates the project, create a separate server directory rather than overwriting a working world. A client profile from one release must never be paired with server files from another.

Why exact matching matters

Forge checks mod identifiers and versions when a client connects. A different build can produce a missing-mod, rejected-version, registry, or configuration error even when the Minecraft version appears correct. The same problem occurs when a player copies only the visible mods but not the configuration files. The safest deployment artifact is the matching server pack when the author publishes one; otherwise, build the server from the same release and compare its files against the client profile.

Choose hosted or self-hosted deployment

Both approaches can run the pack, but they transfer different responsibilities to you. Use a managed host when you want a web panel, automated provisioning, and no router configuration. Self-host when you want full control over files, schedules, and network policy and are comfortable maintaining Java, Forge, backups, and firewall rules.

Factor Managed CurseForge server Self-hosted Forge server
Setup effort Lower: select the pack and a matching server-pack file in the provider workflow. Higher: install Forge, assemble or extract server files, configure the process, and maintain the machine.
Control Provider panel controls the instance; underlying operating-system access varies by plan. Direct control of launch scripts, files, Java options, firewall, backups, and upgrades.
Recurring cost Requires a hosting plan; current price depends on the selected region and plan. No hosting fee if you use an existing computer, but electricity, hardware, storage, and administration remain your responsibility.
Port forwarding Not required on your home router for the hosted route. Usually required for friends outside your network, together with a firewall rule and a reachable address.
Backups May be available in the provider panel; confirm retention and restore controls before relying on them. You choose the backup method and retention. Test a restore before inviting players.
Server-pack availability CurseForge’s workflow requires a compatible server pack for the selected modpack. Use the author’s server pack when available; if none exists, assemble the server installation from that exact release.
Capacity and performance Plan size and region determine available resources; no pack-specific RAM tier is established here. Capacity depends on your hardware, Java setup, storage, and network. No universal RAM number should be assumed for this pack.

Option 1: Create a hosted server through CurseForge

CurseForge’s official server flow is the shortest path for a beginner, provided the selected release has a matching server pack. The service’s servers are powered by Shockbyte. Availability, regions, plan limits, pricing, and support for a particular release can change, so confirm those details in the setup panel before paying.

  1. Open the Servers area. In the CurseForge app or its server setup page, choose Servers rather than creating only a local client profile.
  2. Select the exact modpack. Search for Create a Colony – MineColonies / Create / MCA and select the 1.19.2 Forge release you recorded. Do not select a similarly named MineColonies project for another Minecraft version.
  3. Choose the matching server-pack filename. The workflow presents a server-pack file associated with the modpack. Verify that its release and Minecraft/Forge versions match your notes. If no compatible server pack is offered, stop and use the self-hosted route or wait for a supported server artifact; do not substitute a client ZIP.
  4. Choose a plan and region. Select the region that gives your players a sensible network path, then review the plan’s player, storage, backup, and resource limits. The pack documentation does not establish a single required RAM tier, so use the host’s current compatibility information rather than an invented number.
  5. Enter server details. Set the server name, administrator account, and other requested values. Keep the name distinct from the pack release so players know which instance they are joining.
  6. Provision and open the provider panel. After deployment, use the panel to start or stop the server, view the console, upload permitted configuration files, manage operators and whitelists, and inspect backups. The exact labels can vary as the hosting interface changes.
  7. Perform a private test. Start the instance, wait for Forge and MineColonies to finish loading, and connect with one client using the identical pack release. Check that a new world loads, a colony can be placed, and Create machines function before sharing the address.

Hosted setup checks

  • Confirm the server is running Forge 1.19.2, not a vanilla or NeoForge instance.
  • Confirm the deployed server-pack release equals the client release.
  • Read the console for missing dependencies or rejected registry entries before inviting players.
  • Set a whitelist first; add players by their exact Java Edition usernames.
  • Record the provider’s address and port privately. Do not post administrative credentials in a public chat.
  • Verify how to download a world backup and how long backups are retained.

Option 2: Self-host the Forge server

Self-hosting gives you direct access to the installation, but the exact launch command and Java requirements depend on the Minecraft and Forge distribution supplied with the release. Follow the Forge files’ current instructions rather than copying a command from an unrelated version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Prepare a dedicated server directory

Create a new directory such as create-a-colony-1.19.2-server on a machine that can remain online. Keep the world, logs, mods, configuration, and launch files together. Do not place the server in your client’s ordinary .minecraft directory; separating them prevents accidental deletion or mixing of profiles.

2. Install the exact Forge build

Use the Forge version required by the chosen pack release. The MineColonies installation guidance specifies selecting Forge for the documented CurseForge path. Install the server files into the dedicated directory and retain the generated Forge launch script or command. A Forge build for another Minecraft version is not a substitute, even if the launcher starts successfully.

3. Obtain and install server files

If the pack author publishes a server pack, extract that archive into the server directory. If no server pack exists, assemble the installation from the same release and place every required mod JAR in the server’s mods folder. Copy the corresponding configuration files as supplied by the pack. Avoid adding convenience mods until the base pack starts cleanly; each extra file creates another compatibility variable.

4. Run once and accept the EULA

Start the supplied Forge launch script or command once. The server distribution normally creates its initial files and stops until you accept Minecraft’s EULA in eula.txt. Read the EULA, set the value required by the distribution, and start again. Because Java flags and generated filenames differ by Forge build, use the launch files that came with your installation rather than assuming a universal command.

  • COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.

5. Configure server.properties

After the first successful start, stop the server cleanly and edit server.properties. Set the policies that match your group:

  • Port: keep the default unless it conflicts with another service; if you change it, share the new port and forward that same port.
  • Difficulty and gameplay: choose the setting your colony can support.
  • Whitelist: enable it for a private friend group and add players deliberately.
  • View distance and simulation distance: begin conservatively and increase only after observing server performance.
  • Online-mode and other security settings: retain secure defaults unless you understand the consequences of changing them.

The pack documentation does not publish a universal memory recommendation. Monitor the console, tick behavior, and operating-system memory rather than applying a number copied from a different modpack. Leave enough memory for the operating system and avoid allocating every available gigabyte to Java.

6. Start, read the console, and test

Launch the server and watch the complete startup log. A successful boot should progress past Forge loading and reach the normal ready state without repeated dependency, registry, or version errors. Join locally first, create or load a test world, place the MineColonies town hall, and verify that workers can be assigned. Test a basic Create contraption only after the colony itself works, so you can identify which subsystem fails.

7. Make the server reachable

For players on the same home network, the host’s local address may be sufficient. For players elsewhere, forward the server port from the router to the host machine and allow the same port through the machine’s firewall. Your public address can change, and some internet providers use carrier-grade NAT that prevents inbound connections; in those cases, a managed host or a suitable private networking solution may be simpler. Share the address and port privately, never the router’s administrator password.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

8. Back up before inviting friends

Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory and the relevant configuration files to storage separate from the live machine, and record when the backup was made. Keep at least one backup from before major mod or Forge changes. Perform a test restore into a separate directory; a backup that has never been restored is only an assumption.

Client installation and connection checklist

Every player must use the same technical stack as the server. Give new players a short installation note containing the exact pack release and loader details instead of telling them to install “Create a Colony” generally.

  1. Install Minecraft Java Edition.
  2. Install the same Minecraft 1.19.2 Forge build required by the server’s pack release.
  3. Install the identical Create a Colony pack release through the chosen launcher.
  4. Use the matching configuration files and required resource files. Do not add or remove mods casually.
  5. Launch once in single-player to let the profile generate its files, then close the game.
  6. Enter the server address and port in Multiplayer and connect.

A matching server pack is the cleanest deployment artifact when it exists, but it is not a replacement for the client profile: players still need the client-side pack and loader. Keep a copy of the release number in the server’s welcome message or a pinned group note.

Plan the colony before the first session

Technical setup is only half the work. MineColonies turns a server into a shared management project, so agree on governance before someone places the first town hall.

Define ownership and permissions

  • Name one or two administrators who can restart the server, restore backups, and approve mod changes.
  • Decide who can place, upgrade, relocate, or remove colony buildings.
  • Set a rule for claims and paths so farms, Create power systems, and housing do not block future expansion.
  • Choose whether players may create separate colonies or must contribute to one settlement.

Assign practical roles

Early sessions benefit from clear responsibilities. One player can plan roads and building footprints, another can gather food and materials, and another can configure Create processing and transport. As the settlement grows, coordinate builders, farmers, guards, miners, bakers, cooks, couriers, and animal herders so the warehouse and production chain do not become bottlenecks.

Use Create deliberately

Create automation is most useful when it solves a colony problem: moving harvested crops, processing materials, supplying builders, or organizing warehouse logistics. Build a small, labeled test line first. Keep mechanical power, item routing, and colony work areas accessible for troubleshooting instead of hiding every component underground on the first day.

Troubleshooting common failures

“Incompatible mod set” or “missing mods”

Compare the client and server release numbers, Forge build, mods folder contents, and configuration files. Remove a manually added mod from the client, or restore the missing file from the exact pack release. Do not fix a mismatch by downloading a similarly named JAR from another Minecraft version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The server stops during startup

Read the first meaningful error in the console, not only the final shutdown line. Dependency and registry errors usually indicate an incorrect Forge build, an incomplete server pack, or a mod from another release. Rebuild in a clean directory from the known release and add no optional files until the base server starts.

Players time out or cannot connect

Check that the server is running, the address includes the correct port, and the port-forwarding and firewall rules point to the host’s current local address. A hosted server should be checked in its provider panel instead. If local players connect but remote players cannot, investigate router NAT or ISP restrictions rather than changing mod files.

World loads but colony workers do not operate

Confirm that MineColonies completed loading without errors, the player has the required permissions, and the colony’s town hall and worker buildings are valid. Check food, assigned tasks, worker housing, and warehouse access. Test in a fresh backup world before deleting buildings from the main settlement.

Performance degrades as the colony grows

Watch the server console and tick behavior while adding one system at a time. Reduce view or simulation distance, limit unnecessary always-running Create contraptions, and spread large builds rather than concentrating every machine in one chunk. Make a backup before changing Forge, the pack, or world-generation settings; those changes can affect an existing world.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Updating without breaking the world

Do not update the live server by replacing individual JAR files at random. First read the target pack release notes, confirm its Minecraft and Forge versions, and check whether a new server pack exists. Copy the complete server directory and create a restorable world backup. Test the new release in a separate directory with a copy of the world, then schedule the live upgrade when nobody is connected. Require every player to update their client profile at the same time.

If a new release changes world generation or removes a mod, treat it as a migration project rather than a routine restart. Keep the old server directory intact until the group has confirmed that the upgraded world loads, colonies remain present, and Create systems behave normally.
