No. Toothpaste cannot fix cracked phone-screen glass. Its mild abrasives are not enough to buff out a crack, and rubbing paste into damaged glass does not restore the screen. Avoid household abrasives and liquid remedies; arrange an inspection or repair instead.
Why toothpaste does not repair a cracked screen
The toothpaste trick assumes that a crack can be polished away. But phone-screen glass is too thick and cracks are too deep for toothpaste’s mild abrasives to buff them out, according to Asurion’s repair guidance. That guidance is not a controlled test of every toothpaste and display combination, but it gives no reason to treat toothpaste as a repair.
Rubbing toothpaste, baking soda, or another household abrasive into the crack can make a mess without fixing the damage. Avoid liquid remedies as well: liquid can seep through an existing crack and into the device.
Check whether the display itself is damaged
A visible crack may be only part of the problem. Black spots or ink-like marks, abnormal lines, or unusual colors after an impact can point to internal display-panel damage. Samsung advises Galaxy owners with these symptoms to seek inspection and repair; see its screen damage guidance.

A case or screen protector may help reduce the risk of future damage, but neither repairs glass that is already cracked. Google describes protectors as a preventive measure and notes that a cracked screen can be repaired in its Pixel screen-protection guidance.
What to do before repair
- Minimize handling if glass is loose. Avoid rubbing or pressing the damaged area.
- Contain loose shards temporarily. iFixit’s guide to taping over cracked glass shows overlapping strips of packing tape as a temporary way to contain shards before repair. Tape does not mend the glass, restore touch or display function, or restore water resistance.
- Arrange an inspection. Seek service promptly if the display has black spots, lines, unusual colors, or other signs of internal damage.
Compare repair options for your phone
Possible routes include manufacturer or extended-warranty service, carrier repair, an independent repair shop, trade-in, and self-repair. The right choice depends on the phone model, damage, coverage, and the provider’s terms; prices and availability vary by device and location.
