The CPI(M)’s Thiruvananthapuram district committee will conduct an internal inquiry into an allegation that Thrikannapuram councillor Ajin S demanded ₹10 lakh over a land dispute, state secretary M V Govindan said on October 3, 2026. The reported announcement is an inquiry, not a finding: the available coverage does not say it has concluded or that the allegation has been established.

What is alleged in the Thrikannapuram land dispute?

Sanju, a Thirumala resident, alleges that Ajin demanded ₹10 lakh to resolve issues concerning a plot Sanju had purchased at MLA Road. Sanju says the councillor raised questions about liability and encroachment. The New Indian Express described the property as 19 cents; that figure does not establish the truth of the alleged demand.

Sanju released audio and video clips described in reports as purported evidence. Ajin denies the allegation and says the recordings are fabricated and AI-generated. The available reporting does not independently authenticate the clips or resolve the competing accounts.

What has the CPI(M) announced?

On October 3, 2026, CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan said the party’s Thiruvananthapuram district committee would examine the allegation internally. He said: “The Thiruvananthapuram district committee will conduct an inquiry.” Govindan declined to comment further. The report does not say whether the inquiry has begun or reached a conclusion.

What has police reportedly done?

The reports say Sanju filed complaints with the Home Minister and the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner. Mayor V V Rajesh said police had recorded Sanju’s statement. These are reported procedural steps; the available coverage does not report a police finding, establish that a case outcome has been reached, or confirm authentication of the recordings.

What is the Corporation’s position?

Rajesh said the Corporation had examined available facts, that further discussions were needed, and that strict action would be taken. He also said the Corporation had not filed a complaint and was examining the legal aspects at the time of his comments. His statement was: “There are some discussions to be held in this regard. Strict action will be taken.”

The Mayor described limits on the Corporation’s role in inquiries into an individual councillor. He said land issues should be investigated by Revenue Department officials, including the Village Officer, Tahsildar and District Collector, while the Corporation would intervene in matters concerning building construction. The coverage does not report a Corporation order or final action.

What is confirmed—and what remains unresolved?

  • Confirmed development: Govindan announced an internal CPI(M) district committee inquiry.
  • Contested allegation: Sanju alleges Ajin demanded ₹10 lakh; Ajin denies it and disputes the recordings’ authenticity.
  • Reported police step: The Mayor said police recorded Sanju’s statement; no police finding is reported.
  • Not established in the available coverage: whether the party inquiry has started or concluded, whether an authority has authenticated the clips, and whether any competent authority has made a finding on the allegation.

Hindustan Times/PTI and The New Indian Express reported the developments on October 3, 2026. Any later update should be distinguished by source and by process: a party inquiry, police investigation and Corporation action are separate matters, and an announcement or complaint is not itself proof of wrongdoing.
