Verdict: The Coway AP-1018F is a compact, four-stage indoor air purifier specified for roughly a 33 m² room. Its published 38 W draw, slim 183 mm depth and retailer-listed noise figures make it attractive for bedrooms, studies and smaller living areas. The important qualifications are regional: Australian listings disagree with the model document on dimensions, weight and filter-change intervals, and the available performance evidence is a controlled chamber result rather than an in-home test.

What the AP-1018F is, and who it suits

The AP-1018F uses mechanical dust intake and a HEPA filter, with the Australian retailer describing four stages: a washable pre-filter, fine-dust filter, deodorization filter and HEPA filter. In practical terms, it is designed for a single small-to-medium indoor room rather than whole-home purification. The model specification recommends use in 33 m²; an Australian Woolworths listing says coverage is up to 33.9 m². Those figures are close but are not interchangeable measurements of cleaning speed. Actual results depend on room volume, doors and windows, pollutant load, fan setting and where the appliance is placed.

It is a sensible candidate when you need a relatively narrow floor footprint, want a washable first-stage filter and can obtain the correct local replacement filters. It is a less certain choice if you need independently measured performance, verified Australian stock or a documented whole-home solution.

How much room can it cover?

Use the 33 m² model recommendation as the conservative planning figure. The 33.9 m² Woolworths value is an “up to” retailer claim, not a promise that every 33.9 m² room will reach a particular particle concentration within a particular time. A high-ceilinged open-plan area has more air volume than a 33 m² bedroom, and an open doorway continuously adds air the purifier must process.

Choosing a room

  • Best fit: a closed bedroom, office, nursery or living room near the published area limit.
  • Use caution: open-plan spaces, rooms with unusually high ceilings or areas connected to several rooms.
  • Placement: leave the intake and outlet unobstructed and follow the clearances in the market-specific manual. Do not hide the unit behind furniture or curtains.

The listing’s CADR of 4.4 m³/min is useful for comparisons only when another purifier reports CADR using the same standard and assumptions. The supplied information does not identify a test standard or air-change target for this number, so it should not be converted into a guaranteed “minutes to clean” claim.

Filtration: what each stage does

Washable pre-filter

The pre-filter is the routine-maintenance layer for larger dust and debris. The AP-1018F manual recommends washing it every two to four weeks. The interval is not a calendar guarantee: dust, pets, smoke and construction work can make more frequent cleaning necessary.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fine-dust filter

The Woolworths listing identifies a separate fine-dust filter and gives a four-month replacement interval. That schedule is specific to that Australian listing and may reflect a local filter configuration. It should not be merged with the model manual’s annual schedule without confirming which filter set your unit uses.

Deodorization filter

The deodorization stage is intended for odours and gaseous pollutants. The model manual says to replace the deodorization filter every 12 months under 24-hour daily use at low fan speed. Woolworths instead lists 24 months. Because those instructions conflict, check the manual supplied with your Australian unit and the exact replacement-filter SKU rather than choosing the longer interval automatically.

HEPA filter

The HEPA filter is the principal fine-particle stage. Both the manual and Woolworths listing state a 12-month replacement interval, but the manual’s figure assumes continuous, low-speed operation and says the environment can change the timing. Heavy smoke, dust or renovation debris can load a filter sooner.

Filter maintenance and replacement schedule

Component Coway manual Woolworths Australia listing How to apply it
Pre-filter Wash every 2–4 weeks Washable pre-filter identified; interval not stated in the listing summary Inspect it regularly and clean within the manual’s interval.
Fine-dust filter Not separately scheduled in the supplied manual summary Replace every 4 months Follow the schedule for the exact Australian filter configuration.
Deodorization filter Replace every 12 months Replace every 24 months Resolve the regional discrepancy using the supplied manual and seller’s SKU guidance.
HEPA filter Replace every 12 months Replace every 12 months Earlier replacement may be appropriate in a heavily polluted environment.

The annual figures in the manual assume 24-hour daily use at low air speed. The manual also requires genuine Coway filters and says to unplug the appliance before changing them. For the exact procedure, filter orientation and compatible part numbers, use the manual for your market rather than relying on a generic AP-1018F listing.

Safe replacement routine

  1. Switch the purifier off and unplug it from the outlet before opening the filter compartment.
  2. Identify the filter set and part numbers specified for your unit; do not assume a filter advertised for a similarly named model fits.
  3. Wash the pre-filter only as directed by the manual. Do not wash the HEPA, deodorization or fine-dust filters unless the manual explicitly says they are washable.
  4. Replace disposable filters at the applicable interval, or sooner if the environment has heavily loaded them.
  5. Close the filter compartment fully, reconnect power and check that airflow is unobstructed.

Noise, power and physical fit

Woolworths publishes 21.6 dB on low, 37 dB on medium and 44.3 dB on high. These are listing figures, not measurements made in this review; room acoustics, distance and the measurement method can materially change what you hear. Low speed is the setting associated with the manual’s 12-month replacement assumption, while high speed will move more air but may be more noticeable in a quiet bedroom.

The model document’s 38 W consumption is modest for a continuously running appliance, but it is a nameplate specification rather than an electricity-cost calculation. Your cost depends on the local tariff and how many hours you operate each day. The Australian listing specifies 220–240 V, 50 Hz. Confirm the rating plate before connecting an imported or marketplace unit.

Estimating electricity cost

At the published maximum draw, 38 W equals 0.038 kW. Multiply 0.038 by operating hours to estimate energy use: 24-hour operation is about 0.912 kWh per day, or roughly 333 kWh over 365 days. Multiply that figure by your retailer’s electricity rate to get an annual estimate. Actual consumption can be lower or vary by fan setting, so treat this as a planning calculation rather than a meter reading. Filter purchases, delivery and any service charges should be added separately when comparing ownership cost.

According to the model specification, the purifier is 376 mm wide, 183 mm deep and 641 mm high, with a net weight of 7.25 kg. Those dimensions describe a tall, shallow appliance that should fit beside furniture more easily than a deep box, provided the air inlets and outlet remain clear.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Important Australian listing discrepancy

Appliances Online lists dimensions of 720 × 440 × 240 mm and a weight of 8.4 kg, substantially different from Coway’s 376 × 183 × 641 mm and 7.25 kg. The available sources do not establish whether this is a listing error, a different regional variant or packaging-related information. Do not choose a shelf, cabinet or delivery space using the larger retailer figures—or the slimmer model figures—until you check the rating plate, carton and manual for the actual Australian unit.

What the 99.9% particle claim does—and does not—show

Woolworths reports a KIMM result dated 20 July 2018: 99.9% removal of 0.02 μm particles at maximum airflow in an airtight chamber for more than 60 minutes. That is a specific controlled-chamber result as described by the retailer. It is not an independently measured whole-room result and does not establish equivalent removal of every pollutant in a furnished home.

Chamber conditions differ from normal use: doors open, people move through the room, particles are generated continuously and the purifier may run at a lower setting. Treat the claim as evidence of a test under stated conditions, not as a guarantee for your bedroom, office or living room.

How to set it up for a fair trial

  1. Measure the room’s floor area and note ceiling height, open doors and adjoining spaces before deciding whether it is within the 33 m² recommendation.
  2. Remove all transport packaging and confirm that each filter is installed in the order shown by the exact manual.
  3. Place the unit on a stable, level surface with the specified clearance around the intake and outlet.
  4. Run it on a higher fan speed when the room has a short-term particle event, then use a lower setting for quieter continuous operation if that suits your needs.
  5. Record the date of pre-filter cleaning and each disposable-filter change. This prevents the 12-month and 24-month regional schedules being confused later.

This procedure does not create a laboratory performance test. It simply reduces avoidable setup errors and gives you a useful maintenance record.

Comparing it with another purifier

A fair comparison needs like-for-like figures. Check room coverage and CADR under the same published test standard and air-change assumption; otherwise a larger-looking number may not mean faster cleaning. Compare the number and type of filter stages, genuine filter availability and expected annual replacement cost. Then check measured noise at each fan speed, power consumption, dimensions, placement clearances, warranty, service arrangements and Australian stock.

The AP-1018F’s 4.4 m³/min CADR can be converted to 264 m³/h for arithmetic, but that conversion does not supply a missing test standard or guarantee a particular air-change rate. Likewise, the 38 W nameplate does not by itself prove lower running cost than a competitor whose power is quoted under a different operating mode. If a rival has independently measured in-room results and the AP-1018F does not, label that evidence difference rather than declaring a winner.

Availability, filters and buying checks in Australia

A Woolworths page identifies the AP-1018F, but the current Coway Australia catalogue surfaced other Airmega products in the retrieved results and did not show this model. That does not prove the AP-1018F is discontinued; stock and catalogues change. Before paying, confirm all of the following with the seller:

Searches for “AP-1018F replacement filters” are useful only after you have verified the market-specific filter SKU. The conflicting replacement schedules show why a generic listing should not be treated as universal. No reliable current exact-model price is established here, so compare the delivered purifier price plus recurring filter costs rather than using an old or promotional figure.

Common pitfalls

  • Buying on the coverage number alone: a 33.9 m² “up to” claim does not account for ceiling height, open doors or continuous particle generation.
  • Assuming every AP-1018F listing describes the same unit: the dimensions and weight conflict materially between listings.
  • Following the longest filter interval automatically: the deodorization schedule is 12 months in the manual and 24 months on Woolworths.
  • Washing the wrong filter: only the pre-filter is identified as washable in the retailer description; treat the other stages as disposable unless your manual says otherwise.
  • Using a generic replacement: similar model names do not establish compatibility, and an incorrect filter can compromise fit and airflow.
  • Treating dB figures as universal: quoted noise depends on test method, distance, room acoustics and fan setting.
  • Importing without checking voltage: confirm the 220–240 V, 50 Hz rating and Australian warranty before purchase.

Is the Coway AP-1018F any good?

On the published specifications, it is a plausible small-room purifier: the recommended area is around 33 m², the body is relatively shallow, the retailer lists three fan speeds and low-to-high noise figures, and the filtration stack includes a washable pre-filter plus HEPA and deodorization stages. The ownership decision turns less on the headline 99.9% figure than on whether you can verify the Australian variant and obtain its filters at sensible intervals.

It is not possible to conclude from the available evidence that it cleans faster, runs more quietly or removes odours better than competing purifiers. No hands-on test, independent in-home measurement, long-term reliability record, Australian sales statistic or customer-satisfaction dataset was supplied. If those factors determine your purchase, seek comparable measurements made to the same standard and current local service information.

Practical decision checklist

  • Measure the room and treat 33 m² as the conservative target.
  • Check that the appliance’s 376 × 183 × 641 mm model dimensions—or the verified dimensions of your regional unit—fit with airflow clearances.
  • Confirm 220–240 V, 50 Hz compatibility on the rating plate.
  • Budget for recurring filter replacements, not just the purchase price.
  • Resolve the 12-month versus 24-month deodorization schedule with the exact manual and filter SKU.
  • Confirm current Australian stock, warranty support and genuine filters before ordering.
  • Interpret noise and 99.9% claims as published or retailer-reported figures, not independent room measurements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big a room can the AP-1018F cover?

Coway’s model specification recommends 33 m², while Woolworths Australia says up to 33.9 m². Use 33 m² as the conservative planning figure, especially for high ceilings, open doors or open-plan layouts.

How often do AP-1018F filters need replacing?

The manual recommends replacing the deodorization and HEPA filters every 12 months under 24-hour daily use at low speed. Woolworths lists the fine-dust filter at four months, deodorization at 24 months and HEPA at 12 months. Confirm the schedule and filter SKU for your exact Australian unit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are AP-1018F filters easy to find in Australia?

Availability is not settled by the listings reviewed. Confirm that the seller or an authorised service channel can supply genuine pre-, fine-dust, deodorization and HEPA filters before buying.

Is the AP-1018F quiet enough for a bedroom?

Woolworths lists 21.6 dB on low, 37 dB on medium and 44.3 dB on high. These are retailer figures, not independent room measurements; acoustics, distance and fan speed affect what you hear.

What does the 99.9% claim mean?

Woolworths describes a KIMM result dated 20 July 2018, with 99.9% removal of 0.02 μm particles at maximum airflow in an airtight chamber for more than 60 minutes. It is not a guarantee of the same result in a furnished home or for every pollutant.

How much electricity does it use?

The model specification lists 38 W. At that draw, continuous operation is about 333 kWh per year; multiply by your electricity tariff for an estimate. Actual use varies with fan setting and operating time.

Do the listed dimensions look reliable?

Coway lists 376 × 183 × 641 mm and 7.25 kg, but Appliances Online lists 720 × 440 × 240 mm and 8.4 kg. Check the rating plate, carton and manual for the physical Australian unit before planning placement.

Does it come with an Australian warranty?

Appliances Online lists a two-year manufacturer warranty. Confirm that the warranty applies to the exact Australian unit, who provides service and whether imported or marketplace stock is covered.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The AP-1018F makes sense for a single room around 33 m² if its shallow model dimensions suit your space and you can verify genuine local filters. Treat CADR, noise and the 99.9% particle figure as published or retailer-reported specifications, not independent in-home results. Before ordering, confirm voltage, exact dimensions, warranty, current stock and the filter schedule for your Australian variant.
