Use Premier if you want Counter-Strike 2’s built-in competitive queue, Valve’s CS Rating and Active Duty pick-ban format, and no separate third-party anti-cheat installation. Choose FACEIT if its independent Elo ladder, player verification and organized team competitions matter enough to justify installing FACEIT Anti-Cheat and meeting its Windows security requirements.
Neither platform can be declared the universal winner for cheating, toxicity, queue times or match quality from the official information available. The practical choice depends on the rating system, queue structure, account eligibility and software requirements you prefer.

|---|---|---|
| Rating | Valve CS Rating, shown on global and regional leaderboards | FACEIT Elo levels |
| Match format | Premier’s Active Duty pick-ban queue | Third-party matchmaking with FACEIT’s platform features |

Premier and FACEIT are not two names for the same service. Premier is part of CS2 and makes CS Rating the central progression path. FACEIT is an external competitive ecosystem with its own account, rating and anti-cheat layer. You can use both; selecting one as your main queue is a choice about which ecosystem you want to manage.
What Premier provides
CS Rating is Valve’s native ranking path
Valve describes CS Rating as “a visible measurement of your Counter-Strike performance, and it will determine where you stand on global and regional leaderboards.” The rating is earned by playing Premier’s Active Duty pick-ban mode, so Premier is the official route if your goal is to build the rating displayed inside CS2. See Valve’s overview of Counter-Strike 2 and Premier.
#1 Best Overall
- Single-elimination, team-based online shooter
- Completely overhauled with better graphics, new characters, items, and environments
- Package includes Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Day of Defeat: Source
- Real-world physics adds depth the gameplay
- Internet connection required for online play
The distinction matters when you compare screenshots, profiles or community discussions. A FACEIT Elo number is not a second display of your Valve CS Rating, and a Premier rating does not automatically convert into FACEIT Elo. Each service evaluates progress within its own queue and player pool.
Premier uses the Active Duty pick-ban format
Before a match begins, the lobby works through the Active Duty map pick-ban process. That makes map selection part of the competitive mode rather than leaving the map entirely to a random queue result. If you specifically want this Valve-defined format and an in-game rating, Premier is the direct fit.
Prime Status and Profile Level 10 are mandatory
Steam Support says Premier access requires both Prime Status and Steam Profile Level 10. Prime Status is a digital account entitlement, while Profile Level 10 is the Steam account-level threshold. Reaching only one of these conditions does not unlock Premier.

Steam also says Prime users receive CS Ratings and are matched only with other Prime users in all modes. Check the current eligibility details in Steam’s Prime Status and Free to Play support article before troubleshooting a missing Premier option.
Trust Factor is an attempt at similarity matching, not a guarantee
Steam describes Trust Factor matchmaking as an attempt to match players with similar Trust Factors. It also notes that the available pool changes with time of day, region and the maps being played. That means two players can have different experiences even when they select the same mode.
Rank #2
Trust Factor does not promise cheat-free matches, an identical skill spread, a particular queue time or a fixed level of teammate behavior. The official explanation is in Steam’s Trust Factor matchmaking FAQ. Treat it as a matchmaking input rather than a published service-level guarantee.
What FACEIT adds
A separate Elo ladder and account progression
FACEIT’s CS2 service uses its own Elo progression and levels. That gives players a rating framework independent of the CS2 Premier number. If you want to compete in the FACEIT environment, your meaningful progress is the Elo and level shown there, not your Premier CS Rating.
FACEIT also describes matchmaking, account verification and Match Insights as platform features. These can be useful if you want more account-level structure or post-match information than the native queue provides, but the feature descriptions do not independently prove better matches or lower cheating rates.
Verification and organized competition
Verification is one of the reasons some players choose an external platform. FACEIT presents verification as part of its competitive ecosystem, alongside standard matchmaking. The exact verification flow and eligibility rules can change, so review the current account prompts rather than assuming every player must complete the same check.
For established groups, FACEIT separates ordinary matchmaking from the ESEA League. FACEIT describes ESEA League as a subscription-based amateur team league. It is therefore a team competition, not simply another solo queue. Compare the current subscription terms, season schedule and regional availability on the platform before committing a roster.
Rank #3

- Unnervingly realistic graphics the likes of which have not been witnessed outside of a motion picture or pre-rendered cut scene
- Realistic physics: objects have varied and appropriate mass, density, physical properties
- For 1 player
FACEIT’s published scale figures need context
On its CS2 page, FACEIT reports 34 million registered players, 10,000+ tournament organizers and over 3,000 teams in eight skill-balanced groups. The page does not state a year for these figures, and they are FACEIT’s own promotional numbers rather than independently audited market statistics. They indicate the scale FACEIT claims for its ecosystem; they are not evidence that an individual region will have shorter queues or stronger opponents.

FACEIT Anti-Cheat: requirements you must check first
The protected-match software model
FACEIT’s support documentation describes an app that must be running whenever you play a protected Counter-Strike 2 match. It also describes a kernel-mode driver that loads at boot and a server-side software development kit. This is a deeper system integration than simply opening a website or launching a matchmaking client.
The support article was dated June 29, 2023 and marked updated October 23, 2025. Anti-cheat behavior and requirements can change, so use the live article, What is FACEIT Anti-cheat and how does it work?, as the authority when you install or troubleshoot it.
Operating-system and firmware prerequisites
The listed prerequisites include:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Secure Boot enabled in UEFI firmware.
- TPM 2.0 enabled and available to Windows.
- The FACEIT Anti-Cheat application running for protected matches.
- The anti-cheat driver loading during the boot process.
These requirements can block setup even when CS2 itself runs normally. A computer may launch the game while still failing FACEIT’s security checks because Secure Boot is disabled, TPM 2.0 is unavailable or the system is not using a supported Windows configuration.

Pre-installation checklist
- Confirm the operating system. Verify that the PC is running a supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation.
- Check Secure Boot. Open your firmware settings and confirm Secure Boot is enabled. The exact menu name varies by motherboard and firmware vendor.
- Check TPM 2.0. Confirm that TPM 2.0 is enabled in firmware and recognized by Windows.
- Install the current anti-cheat client. Use FACEIT’s current support instructions rather than an old installer or third-party download.
- Restart when requested. Because the driver loads at boot, a restart may be required before the platform recognizes the installation.
- Launch the anti-cheat before joining. Protected matches require the app to remain active for the duration specified by FACEIT.
If you cannot or do not want to alter firmware security settings, Premier is the simpler option because the FACEIT-specific prerequisites are not part of its stated entry requirements.
How the ranking systems differ
| Question | Premier CS Rating | FACEIT Elo |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns the rating system? | Valve | FACEIT |
| Where is it earned? | CS2 Premier | FACEIT matchmaking and competitions |
| Where is it displayed? | Inside CS2, with global and regional leaderboard placement | On your FACEIT account and platform profile |
| Does one rating replace the other? | No | No |
| What should a new player track? | CS Rating if Premier is the intended main queue | Elo and level if FACEIT is the intended competitive ecosystem |
There is no official conversion table that lets you infer a precise FACEIT Elo from a CS Rating. Skill can transfer between queues, but the ratings are generated by different systems, populations and match structures. Use each number to measure progress in the service where it was earned.
Should you play Premier or FACEIT?
Choose Premier when native integration is your priority
- You want Valve’s visible CS Rating and its global or regional leaderboard context.
- You prefer the Active Duty pick-ban queue built into CS2.
- You already have Prime Status and Profile Level 10, or are willing to meet those requirements.
- You do not want to install a separate third-party anti-cheat driver.
- You want to queue without maintaining a second competitive account and rating.
Premier is also the least complicated starting point for a player who has not yet decided whether an external platform adds enough value. It keeps the queue, match launch and rating in one product.
Try FACEIT when its additional ecosystem solves a specific need
- You want a separate Elo ladder and level progression.
- You value the verification options described by FACEIT.
- You want to use Match Insights or other platform-level features.
- You play with a fixed roster and need a team competition such as ESEA League.
- Your PC meets the Windows, Secure Boot, TPM 2.0 and anti-cheat requirements.
Do not switch merely because someone claims that FACEIT always has better opponents or that Premier always has more cheaters. The official pages cited here do not publish a matched, independently measured comparison that supports either universal statement.
Use both when you have different goals
Many players can use Premier for Valve’s rating and occasional FACEIT matches for a separate Elo or team schedule. Running both does mean maintaining two profiles, learning two rule sets and solving any anti-cheat or account-verification issue that arises. That overhead is worthwhile only when the second platform offers a feature you will actually use.

A practical decision process
- Define your main objective. If the goal is an in-game Valve rating and Active Duty pick-ban matches, start with Premier. If the goal is FACEIT Elo, verification or team competition, evaluate FACEIT.
- Check Premier eligibility. Confirm Prime Status and Steam Profile Level 10 before diagnosing a missing Premier queue.
- Audit the PC before installing FACEIT Anti-Cheat. Verify Windows 10 or 11, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0, then read the current support article for any updated checks.
- Choose one rating to track first. Concentrate on CS Rating or FACEIT Elo instead of treating numbers from separate systems as interchangeable.
- Test the queue for your real schedule. Play at the times and in the region where you normally queue. Steam explicitly notes that pool conditions vary by time, region and map, and a platform’s advertised global scale does not predict your local experience.
- Keep evidence separate from anecdotes. Record the practical issues that affect you—eligibility failures, queue availability, required restarts or team scheduling—without treating a short personal sample as a platform-wide statistic.
Common problems and fixes
Premier is unavailable
First verify both prerequisites: Prime Status and Profile Level 10. If either is missing, Steam Support’s stated requirements have not been met. If both are present and the mode still does not appear, use Steam’s current account and game support flow rather than assuming Trust Factor is the cause.
FACEIT rejects the computer
Check the three system-level conditions before reinstalling anything: supported Windows 10 or 11, Secure Boot enabled and TPM 2.0 available. Then restart so the boot-loaded driver can initialize. If the check still fails, consult the dated-but-current support article for the exact error and any newer requirement.
You expected identical teammates or opponents
Neither service promises a fixed skill distribution. Steam says its Trust Factor system attempts similarity matching while the available pool changes by time, region and map. FACEIT’s feature page describes its own Elo and matchmaking but does not provide an independently verified guarantee of a particular match-quality level.

You are comparing the wrong numbers
A Premier CS Rating and a FACEIT Elo are platform-specific measurements. A higher number on one service does not automatically mean a higher rank on the other. Compare improvement within the same queue and rating system.
What the official evidence does—and does not—show
The official documentation establishes how each ecosystem describes its rating, queue and requirements. It does not establish a universal winner for cheating prevalence, toxicity, moderation, waiting time or match quality. Steam’s Trust Factor explanation describes an attempted matching method and changing pool conditions; FACEIT’s pages describe platform features and vendor-reported scale.
That limitation is important when evaluating community claims. A personal streak of difficult matches, a forum anecdote or a marketing statement may explain why one player prefers a service, but it is not a controlled comparison across regions, skill levels and times of day. Choose based on the features and requirements you can verify.
Bottom line for different players
- New or returning player: Start with Premier after confirming Prime Status and Profile Level 10. It gives you the native CS Rating and avoids FACEIT-specific setup.
- Competitive solo player: Try FACEIT if its Elo progression or verification is a concrete reason, not simply because of an unsupported assumption about match quality.
- Fixed team: Evaluate FACEIT’s ESEA League separately from ordinary matchmaking and check current season terms before enrolling.
- PC with locked-down firmware: Premier is more practical if you cannot enable Secure Boot or TPM 2.0 for FACEIT Anti-Cheat.
- Player wanting both ecosystems: Keep the ratings conceptually separate and accept the extra account, software and troubleshooting work.
The best platform is the one whose rating, queue format and technical requirements match the way you actually play. Premier is the straightforward Valve-native choice; FACEIT is the deliberate choice for a separate Elo and organized competitive ecosystem.
