There is no confirmed Red Dead Redemption 3 release date, production announcement or trailer. The 2027–2028 window comes from a Citi analyst scenario reported by Stocktwits and The Fly—not from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. Citi said a Red Dead title arriving in that period “may not be unreasonable,” based partly on Take-Two’s development-cost accounting and the company’s comments about Grand Theft Auto VI.
What Citi actually said about a 2027 or 2028 Red Dead launch
Stocktwits reported on October 15, 2026 that Citi considered a Red Dead title releasing in 2027 or 2028 potentially reasonable. The Fly described the same idea as an inference from a Citi research note that could reassure investors worried about Take-Two’s earnings after Grand Theft Auto VI.

The wording matters. “May not be unreasonable” is a possibility assessment, not a forecast that Citi says will happen. It is also not a statement from Rockstar’s developers or publishing executives. The original Citi note was not directly available in the reports, so the quotation is being relayed through Stocktwits.

Why Take-Two’s accounting appeared in the argument
Take-Two reported $2.4 billion in capitalized software and development costs as of its second quarter. Citi treated that company-wide figure as one data point suggesting that another major release could exist somewhere in Take-Two’s pipeline after GTA VI.

That number does not identify a Red Dead project. Capitalized software and development costs can cover multiple games and development activities across the company. It therefore cannot establish that Red Dead Redemption 3 is in production, nearly finished or scheduled for either year.
The GTA VI cost discussion
The same reports say Rockstar head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe dismissed speculation that Grand Theft Auto VI cost more than $1.5 billion. Citi used that comment alongside the development-cost figure when considering Take-Two’s future release capacity. Neither point is evidence that Rockstar has approved or dated a new Red Dead game.

Rockstar has not disclosed the project
Without a title announcement, trailer, investor statement naming the game or platform details, there is no public production milestone that can be mapped to a launch year. A large balance of capitalized development costs is compatible with many projects and cannot be assigned to Red Dead.

GTA VI is the immediate schedule anchor
The reported November 19, 2026 GTA VI date is the only specific upcoming Rockstar timing in the cited material. A Red Dead launch in 2027 or 2028 would therefore be a post-GTA VI scenario, not a date supported by an announced marketing calendar. Delays to GTA VI or changes in Rockstar’s priorities would also make any inferred window less useful.
Sales show commercial potential, not a timetable

- Identify the speaker: Citi is offering analyst reasoning; Rockstar and Take-Two have not announced a 2027 or 2028 Red Dead game in the cited reports.
- Separate the evidence: The $2.4 billion figure is company-wide accounting, while the $1.5 billion GTA VI discussion concerns cost speculation. Neither names a Red Dead project.
- Check the language: “May not be unreasonable” signals uncertainty. It is materially different from “confirmed,” “scheduled” or “in development.”

Could it still happen?

Players who want the current entry can play Red Dead Redemption 2, the 2018 release that the cited report says has passed 87 million copies. Availability, edition, platform support and price vary by retailer and region, so those details should be checked at the time of purchase. Buying or replaying the existing game should not be interpreted as evidence that a sequel has been announced.
Verdict
The headline claim is too strong if it is read as a prediction.
