The Claude feature most closely matching this headline is Cowork, which Anthropic said became available within any conversation on September 16, 2026. That announcement describes a way to move between a quick question and a larger task without first switching modes; it does not prove that Cowork is better than ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity, or that it replaces them for everyone. The original title’s claim about canceling three subscriptions is personal experience, not something Anthropic’s release notes can verify.

What Claude feature does the headline point to?

The title does not name a feature. The closest match in Anthropic’s official announcement is the September 16, 2026 change bringing Claude Cowork capabilities into any conversation. This is an inference from the available announcement, not confirmation of what the headline’s author meant. Anthropic describes the workflow as letting someone start with a quick question or hand Claude a larger task, such as making a report, spreadsheet or presentation, without choosing a separate mode first. The company also says chats, Cowork tasks, projects, connectors and skills carry over. Anthropic’s Claude release notes describe the change.

The practical appeal is continuity: a user can develop an idea in conversation and then continue into a more involved task with relevant context. That may reduce friction for work that naturally grows from a question into a document or other deliverable. It is a workflow description, not evidence that every task succeeds without review or that the feature is available to every account, plan or region. Check the current Claude interface and account details to confirm access.

What Cowork does—and what the announcement does not establish

Moving from chat to a larger task

Anthropic’s announcement gives reports, spreadsheets and presentations as examples of larger tasks. Its central point is that users need not first select a separate mode to move from a quick question to that kind of work. The announcement does not provide a comparative test showing that Claude produces better results than another assistant on the same assignment.

Carrying context across work

Anthropic says chats, Cowork tasks, projects, connectors and skills carry over. That suggests continuity across elements of the Claude workflow, but the announcement does not specify every account’s exact feature access, usage limits, or how well a particular task will preserve all the context a user needs. Check the product’s current behavior for your account and verify important details in the output.

Connectors and external services

Connectors can link Claude with other services; Anthropic has described them as powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP). In a December 2025 announcement, the company reported a directory with more than 75 connectors. That is a dated company figure, not a current connector count. Consult Anthropic’s connector announcement for its description, and check the live product for what is currently available to you.

Can Claude replace ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity?

The available announcements do not establish that Claude replaces all three services. Whether one subscription can stand in for another depends on the work you actually do, the features and models included in your plans, your usage limits, and how much correction each tool’s output requires. A feature that makes long tasks more continuous could be valuable without covering every use that led you to subscribe elsewhere.

Claude itself has a broad range of potential uses. In its March 2023 introduction, Anthropic described the service as available through a chat interface and an API and listed summarization, search, writing, question answering and coding among possible uses. That is historical company framing, not a current feature-by-feature comparison with other products. See Anthropic’s Claude introduction.

Anthropic’s September 2026 release notes also list Claude Opus 5.5 and say it performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most work while costing 40% less to run than Opus 5. Those are Anthropic’s claims about its models, not an independent head-to-head assessment of Claude’s subscription products against ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. Model availability and subscription inclusion should be checked separately; see the release notes. In a June 2026 announcement, Anthropic characterized Fable 5 as generally available and made broad performance claims across software engineering, knowledge work, vision and scientific research; those claims likewise do not establish superiority over the other services. How to decide whether to cancel another AI subscription

Base the decision on your own recurring tasks rather than on a feature announcement or a model claim. Compare tools using the same representative assignments and the plan details you actually have.

  1. Choose real tasks. Pick several jobs you regularly do, including at least one that starts as a question and becomes a longer deliverable if that reflects your workflow.
  2. Use the same inputs. Give each service the same prompt, source material and constraints. Avoid comparing one service’s polished final output with another service’s first draft.
  3. Check the deliverable. Assess whether the result is accurate, complete and in the form you need, such as a report, spreadsheet or presentation. Record what you had to correct or redo.
  4. Test continuity and integrations. See whether each service carries useful context through the task and supports the connectors you depend on. Confirm current availability in your account rather than relying on dated connector counts.
  5. Compare your actual plan terms. Check the current price, usage limits, model choices and included features for the exact plans you would keep. These details can vary by plan and change over time.
  6. Apply your privacy requirements. Review each service’s current data-handling terms and decide whether they meet the needs of the material you work with.
  7. Cancel only what you no longer need. If one service handles your regular work adequately and another no longer earns its place for a task you value, cancellation may make sense for you. Keep a subscription if it still serves a distinct need.

What a credible cancellation story should disclose

To support a first-person claim that you canceled subscriptions because of Cowork, describe the experience behind it rather than presenting the headline as a universal verdict. State when you tested the tools, your region, the plan tiers and models used, and the tasks that influenced your decision. Explain what you stopped using each service for, where Claude did or did not fit, and any meaningful limits or correction work you encountered. A cancellation claim should reflect genuine account history; the feature announcement alone cannot substantiate it.

Anthropic has published figures about Claude.ai interactions—for example, its 2025 study reported that 2.9% were affective conversations and fewer than 0.5% were companionship and roleplay combined. These figures concern usage patterns, not comparative assistant quality, so they do not show whether Claude can replace another subscription. Anthropic’s study.
