Reviews consistently praise its comfort and customization, while fit, control reach, cable stiffness, software complexity, and inconsistent sensor results make it a poor match for every player. What the Corsair Nightsword RGB is
The NIGHTSWORD RGB is a large, contoured, right-handed gaming mouse with a wired USB connection. Corsair positions it for palm grip and large hands. Its defining hardware feature is a weight-and-balance system: removable weights let you change the mouse’s mass and alter where that mass sits.
The original model should not be confused with the separately named NIGHTSWORD V2 Wireless. The mouse discussed here is wired and uses a 1.8 m cable, as noted in Laptop Mag’s 2019 review. Availability and current pricing vary by region, and no current stock or price is established here.

The 18,000-DPI and 119–141 g figures come from Corsair’s product information. The alternative 119–144 g range appears in a review, so it should not be treated as a universally settled specification.

How the adjustable-weight system works
The Nightsword includes multiple weight bays in the underside. Corsair’s quick-start documentation describes six mounting locations. After you insert or remove the supplied weights, iCUE detects them and reports the mouse’s total mass and center of gravity. That lets you tune not only how heavy the mouse feels, but also whether it feels more balanced toward the front, rear, left, or right.
Why weight tuning matters
- A heavier setup can feel steadier for slow, deliberate pointer movement and large desktop gestures.
- A lighter setup reduces the effort required for repeated swipes, but the listed minimum is still substantial compared with lightweight esports mice.
- Changing the position of the weights can correct a balance preference that cannot be changed through software.
Laptop Mag’s reviewer removed the weights because the mouse already felt heavy. That experience is important context: adjustability gives you options, but it does not turn the Nightsword into a lightweight design. If you normally choose mice under roughly 100 g, the 119 g starting point may still feel excessive.
Shape, hand size, and grip fit
The shell is broad and strongly contoured for a right hand. RTINGS concluded, “It’s a great mouse for palm or claw grip, but smaller hands might find it too big.” Laptop Mag likewise praised the chassis and grips as comfortable. These are review outcomes, not a guarantee that the shape will fit every palm or claw user.

Large-hand palm and claw users
The design gives the palm substantial support and leaves room for a relaxed claw posture. Users with larger hands are the most plausible audience, especially if they prefer a mouse that fills the hand instead of a compact shell that encourages fingertip control.
Smaller hands and fingertip grip
Smaller hands may struggle to reach the front controls without shifting the whole hand. The mouse is also a questionable choice for fingertip-grip players who want a short, low-mass body. Try to confirm the shell’s length and button reach in person before buying if your hands are small or you use a fingertip grip.
Control placement
Laptop Mag found the scroll wheel outside a comfortable reach for its reviewer. Tom’s Hardware said the sniper button sits far forward. Those observations do not mean every user will have the same problem, but they show why button count alone is not enough: a control is useful only if your grip can reach it without breaking aim.

Customization through iCUE
iCUE handles button assignments, sensitivity stages, macros, RGB zones, and profile management. The software also reads the inserted weights and displays the resulting mass and center of gravity, which is unusual among gaming mice.

Start with one profile, assign only the controls you actually use, and add lighting effects after the basic layout feels right.
A practical first-time setup
- Connect the mouse directly to a USB port and install the current iCUE release compatible with your operating system.
- Open the mouse device page and create a profile for your game or desktop use.
- Set one or two DPI stages; avoid assigning many stages unless you have a reason to switch frequently.
- Assign secondary buttons to commands you can reach without changing your grip. Leave the forward sniper button unused if it causes your hand to stretch.
- Insert the weights in the positions you prefer, then verify that iCUE reports the expected mass and center of gravity.
- Save the profile and test it in a low-stakes application before using it in a competitive match.
Tracking and button feel: what reviews found
On paper, the PMW3391’s 18,000-DPI ceiling and 1-DPI increments provide a wide sensitivity range. RTINGS nevertheless reported inconsistent sensor behavior in its testing. That is a finding from that review’s test unit, not proof that every Nightsword has a defective sensor. DPI resolution should therefore be treated as a specification, not as evidence of superior real-world accuracy.

Button feel also varies by reviewer. Laptop Mag described the buttons as somewhat stiff, and Tom’s Hardware observed some wobble. If you prefer a very light, crisp click, try the mouse before committing. Corsair’s 50-million-click Omron rating indicates a rated endurance target, but it does not predict the exact service life of an individual unit.

Consider it if you:
- Have a larger hand and use palm or claw grip.
- Want to tune both weight and balance instead of accepting a fixed mass.

- Like a substantial ergonomic shell and customizable RGB.
Look elsewhere if you:
- Prioritize a lightweight mouse for rapid, repeated swipes.
- Need wireless connectivity or a tidy cable-free desk.
- Have small hands, use fingertip grip, or need every side control close to the thumb.
- Want a soft, low-effort click and a highly flexible cable.
- Prefer minimal configuration rather than a feature-rich software suite.

- Hand fit: Match the shell to your hand size and grip; measure reach to the wheel, side buttons, and any sniper control.
- Connection: Decide whether wired reliability or wireless freedom matters more for your setup.
- Controls: Count usable, reachable buttons rather than total buttons listed on the box.
- Cable behavior: A long cable is not automatically convenient if its jacket resists movement.
- Software and profiles: Confirm that the configuration app supports your operating system and that profiles behave as you expect.
- Surface maintenance: Textured recesses can improve grip but may require more frequent cleaning.
Cleaning and troubleshooting
Keeping the shell clean
Tom’s Hardware reported that the surface’s indentation pattern can collect grime. Disconnect the mouse, remove the weights, and wipe the shell with a dry or lightly damp microfiber cloth. Keep liquid away from openings and allow the surface to dry fully before reconnecting it.

If iCUE does not show the weights
- Confirm each weight is seated in a mounting bay and that the underside cover is closed.
- Disconnect and reconnect the mouse directly to the computer rather than through an unpowered hub.
- Restart iCUE and check for an available software update.
- If the reported mass still does not change, test another USB port and contact Corsair support for unit-specific help.
If tracking feels inconsistent
Verify that the sensor lens and mouse surface are clean, then test at a moderate DPI rather than the maximum. If inconsistent behavior persists across surfaces and applications, document the conditions and consult the retailer or manufacturer; RTINGS’ result should not be assumed to diagnose every unit.
Final verdict
The Corsair NIGHTSWORD RGB is a specialist ergonomic mouse, not a universal recommendation. Its combination of adjustable weight, balance sensing, ten buttons, and four-zone RGB is unusually configurable, and independent reviewers found the shell comfortable for many palm and claw users. The trade-offs are equally concrete: high minimum weight, wired operation, a potentially stiff cable, reach issues for some hands, software complexity, grime-prone texture, and a sensor assessment that was not uniformly positive. Choose it when those customization features match your hand and play style; skip it when low weight, wireless freedom, compact dimensions, or effortless controls matter more.
