Choose the Corsair HS80 Wireless if your priority is clear voice chat on a PC, USB-based wireless use and breathable cloth comfort. Choose the original SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 if you need substantially longer battery life or Bluetooth alongside 2.4GHz wireless for switching between gaming and phone audio. The Nova 7 is the more versatile all-rounder; the HS80 is the stronger microphone-focused choice.

This comparison covers the original HS80 RGB Wireless and original Arctis Nova 7. Do not confuse either with the HS80 MAX, special editions or the newer Arctis Nova 7 Gen 2.

Quick answer: which headset should you buy?

The two headsets are aimed at different priorities rather than offering an outright winner in every category. Corsair builds the HS80 Wireless around microphone clarity, PC wireless operation and a cloth-covered comfort design. SteelSeries gives the original Nova 7 a much larger battery and two wireless links: Bluetooth and 2.4GHz.

  • Pick the HS80 Wireless for frequent Discord, team-chat or streaming use on a PC, especially when microphone quality matters more than battery endurance.
  • Pick the Nova 7 for gaming plus phone audio, long sessions between charges, or a setup that moves among several devices.
  • Do not choose by product name alone: the HS80, HS80 MAX and special editions are different products, while the Nova 7 Gen 2 has a different battery claim from the original Nova 7.

Microphone quality: the HS80 has the clearer advantage

Corsair HS80 Wireless microphone

Corsair positions the HS80 around a “broadcast-grade omni-directional microphone for exceptional clarity.” SoundGuys also identifies the HS80 microphone as one of its key strengths. That makes it the safer choice when your headset is also your primary voice-chat microphone.

For a PC player who spends hours in Discord, multiplayer team chat or live sessions, this emphasis is meaningful. A microphone that preserves speech detail can reduce the need for aggressive input gain, noise gates and repeated “say that again” moments. The product positioning does not prove that every room, voice or software configuration will sound identical, but it does establish the HS80’s principal design priority.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 microphone

The Nova 7 uses an AI-powered noise-cancelling microphone. Noise processing can help in a keyboard-heavy room or near a fan, but the character of the result depends on the software settings and the particular generation. “AI-powered” is therefore not a guarantee that it will sound better than the HS80 in every conversation.

If your priority is natural speech detail and you are willing to tolerate a shorter battery, the HS80 is the better fit. If background-noise suppression is more important than an explicitly broadcast-oriented microphone design, the Nova 7 remains a credible option.

Battery life: Nova 7 wins by a wide margin

SteelSeries lists the original Arctis Nova 7 at 38 hours. Corsair lists the HS80 RGB Wireless at up to 20 hours. That 18-hour gap is large enough to change how you manage charging: the Nova 7 can cover several long gaming sessions before you need to connect a cable, while the HS80 is more likely to need regular charging in a daily-use routine.

Both numbers are qualified maximums. High volume, microphone transmission, RGB lighting and wireless conditions can reduce runtime. Treat them as planning figures rather than a promise of a fixed number of hours.

Do not use the Nova 7 Gen 2 figure for the original Nova 7

SteelSeries separately documents the Nova 7 Gen 2. Current 2026 coverage from Tom’s Guide reports up to 54 hours for that newer model. The 54-hour figure does not apply to the original Nova 7 named in this comparison. Check the generation printed on the box and the exact retailer SKU before using a battery claim to make a purchase decision.

Connectivity: Bluetooth makes the Nova 7 more flexible

Nova 7: 2.4GHz and Bluetooth together

The original Nova 7 page documents both 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth. That combination suits a common mixed-device pattern: use the low-latency 2.4GHz link for game audio, then keep a phone connected over Bluetooth for calls, notifications or music. It also avoids buying a second headset solely for mobile listening.

The practical benefit is flexibility, not just a second specification. A console or PC can remain on the gaming link while your phone remains available for audio. How simultaneous mixing and switching behave depends on the device, operating system and SteelSeries software configuration, so confirm the behavior you need before relying on it for a particular workflow.

HS80: USB and wireless operation, without an established Bluetooth claim

Corsair’s HS80 information documents USB and wireless operation. It does not establish Bluetooth for the base HS80. Do not infer Bluetooth support from an HS80 MAX listing or from a special-edition product page; those are separate SKUs.

This makes the HS80 a more PC-centered choice. It is well suited to a desktop with a USB port and a wireless receiver, but it is not the safer purchase if your main requirement is direct phone pairing.

Comfort and fit: different approaches, no universal winner

HS80 materials and headband

The HS80 uses a floating headband, memory-foam ear pads and breathable cloth fabric. Corsair specifically says the cloth lets you listen in comfort. Cloth can feel less warm than sealed synthetic surfaces during long sessions, and memory foam can distribute side pressure smoothly, but those are tendencies rather than guarantees.

Nova 7 ComfortMAX system

SteelSeries specifies its ComfortMAX system for the Nova 7. The name describes the intended fit system, not a universal measurement of comfort. Head width, glasses, hair, clamping preference and ear shape all affect whether a headset feels comfortable after several hours.

No controlled head-to-head comfort test establishes that one model fits every user better. If possible, buy from a seller with a practical return policy and test the clamping force, ear clearance and heat buildup during a normal session.

Audio, EQ and software features

HS80 with iCUE and Dolby Atmos claims

The HS80 product information lists Corsair iCUE support and Dolby Atmos claims. iCUE is the relevant desktop control layer for headset settings, while spatial-audio behavior depends on the game, operating system and the selected processing mode. Spatial audio can improve positional cues for some games, but it is not automatically superior to stereo in every title.

Nova 7 software and wireless controls

The Nova 7 uses SteelSeries software for headset controls and EQ adjustment. Its software environment matters most when you want to tune the sound for footsteps, music or voice, or manage the relationship between its Bluetooth and 2.4GHz links.

There is no evidence here for a universal sound-quality winner. Headphone tuning is subjective, and EQ can alter the result substantially. Compare the features you will actually use on your platform instead of treating a brand’s spatial-audio label as a complete verdict.

PC, phone and console use

PC gaming

Both headsets are natural fits for PC gaming, but the reasons differ. The HS80’s documented USB and wireless operation, iCUE integration and microphone emphasis suit a desktop voice-chat setup. The Nova 7 adds Bluetooth and a longer battery, which is useful if your PC is only one of several connected devices.

Phone audio

The Nova 7 is the straightforward choice when phone compatibility means Bluetooth pairing. The original HS80’s cited product information does not document Bluetooth, so do not buy it expecting the phone workflow associated with the Nova 7.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Console use

Console compatibility depends on the console, the connection method and the exact headset variant. The information used here establishes USB and wireless operation for the HS80 and 2.4GHz/Bluetooth for the Nova 7, but it does not provide a complete compatibility matrix for every PlayStation, Xbox, Switch or mobile configuration. Check the exact platform listing and included receiver before purchase.

How to choose between them

  1. Start with your microphone requirement. If teammates, clients or viewers must hear you clearly and consistently, favor the HS80’s broadcast-oriented microphone design.
  2. Count the devices you need to connect. A PC-only setup can work well with the HS80. Add a phone, tablet or second audio source and the Nova 7’s Bluetooth link becomes substantially more valuable.
  3. Estimate your charging tolerance. Choose the Nova 7 if 38 hours of stated battery life will prevent frequent charging. Choose the HS80 only if its microphone and comfort advantages outweigh the 20-hour maximum.
  4. Check the exact model name. Confirm that a listing says HS80 RGB Wireless rather than HS80 MAX or a special edition, and that it says Arctis Nova 7 rather than Nova 7 Gen 2.
  5. Match software to your platform. Verify that iCUE or SteelSeries software supports the operating system and controls you intend to use. EQ and spatial-audio options are useful only if they are available in your setup.
  6. Confirm the connection you actually need. Do not assume Bluetooth on the base HS80, and do not assume every console supports every wireless mode without a platform-specific listing.

Setup guidance for a reliable first session

HS80 on a PC

  1. Install Corsair iCUE on the computer you will use for configuration.
  2. Connect the HS80’s USB wireless hardware and power on the headset.
  3. Select the HS80 as the operating system’s input and output device, then set the microphone level before joining a call.
  4. Configure EQ and any Dolby Atmos or spatial-audio option in the software and game. Test stereo and spatial modes separately rather than assuming one is best.
  5. Charge the headset after setup and monitor the battery indicator, since the stated maximum is up to 20 hours.

Nova 7 across a gaming device and phone

  1. Install the applicable SteelSeries software for firmware, EQ and headset controls.
  2. Connect the 2.4GHz wireless receiver to the gaming device and select the Nova 7 for game audio and chat.
  3. Pair the headset with the phone over Bluetooth using the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
  4. Test which source is active and how calls, notifications and game audio are mixed before relying on the arrangement during a match.
  5. Keep the headset charged with the 38-hour manufacturer claim as your planning ceiling, not a guaranteed runtime.

Common buying and setup mistakes

  • Mixing generations: Applying the Nova 7 Gen 2’s reported 54-hour figure to the original Nova 7 produces an incorrect comparison.
  • Assuming all HS80 listings are equivalent: HS80, HS80 MAX and special editions can have different connectivity and specifications.
  • Reading “wireless” as “Bluetooth”: The HS80’s documented wireless operation does not establish Bluetooth support.
  • Comparing microphone labels instead of use cases: “Broadcast-grade” and “AI-powered noise cancelling” describe different priorities. Room noise, voice, distance and software settings still affect the result.
  • Ignoring charging habits: A headset that sounds excellent can become frustrating if its runtime does not fit your routine.
  • Relying on a generic console claim: Verify the platform, receiver and exact SKU rather than assuming every wireless mode works identically on every console.
  • Using the wrong software profile: EQ, spatial audio and microphone processing can change the experience. Save a voice-chat profile and a game profile if your software permits it.

Current retailer prices and stock are not included because they change by country, promotion, platform suffix and generation. If two listings appear close in price, compare the exact SKU, included receiver, warranty region and return policy before treating the discount as a meaningful advantage.
