Coolpad is preparing a wide-screen Android phone for China at a reported CNY 999 (about $150), roughly one-sixth the reported price of Huawei’s CNY 5,999 Pura X View. The hardware is deliberately modest; the bigger experiment is DroiClaw 3, an AI-oriented system intended to carry out multi-step tasks across apps rather than merely answer questions.
Reports from MemeBurn and Gizmochina describe an October 2026 China launch plan. Coolpad has not confirmed a global release, an Amazon listing, or final specifications for every component.
What the Coolpad wide-screen phone is
The reported phone combines a 6.3-inch, 720p LCD with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a MediaTek Helio G99 processor. The Helio G99 is a 6nm budget chip first appearing in 2022. Coolpad has not published a complete specification sheet, so details such as memory, storage, cameras, battery capacity, charging, connectivity bands and water resistance remain unconfirmed.
The shape is the defining hardware choice. A 16:10 panel is much wider than the tall screens used by most current Android phones. That creates a small-tablet-like canvas without making the device as large as a conventional tablet, but it also changes how apps, keyboards and pockets work.

- Product Type - CELLULAR PHONE
- Connectivity Technology -Wi-Fi
- Memory - 128. GB
- Components Included - USB
Shanghai-based Droi Technology supplies the software, called DroiClaw 3. Droi’s FreemeOS software is reported to run on more than 200 million devices, although that figure does not establish how many devices use DroiClaw 3 or how mature its agent functions are.
Coolpad versus Huawei Pura X View
| Category | Coolpad wide-screen Android phone | Huawei Pura X View |
|---|---|---|
| Reported China price | CNY 999 (about $150), expected October 2026 launch pricing | CNY 5,999 (about $895–$900), as reported in 2026 |
| Availability | China launch plan reported; global availability not confirmed | Huawei product reported in China; regional availability depends on Huawei’s sales plans |
| Display | 6.3-inch, 720p LCD | 6.39-inch, 120Hz OLED reported by MemeBurn |
| Aspect ratio | 16:10 | Not stated in the supplied reports |
| Processor | MediaTek Helio G99, identified from leaked hands-on footage | Exact Kirin model not specified in the reports |
| Operating software | Android-based DroiClaw 3 | HarmonyOS |
| Agent features | Planned cross-app actions, local/cloud task splitting, MCP and AppFunctions concepts | No equivalent feature set described in the reports |
MemeBurn also reported that Huawei sold more than 180,000 Pura X View units on its first day. That is a sales figure, not evidence that Huawei’s hardware or software is six times better; the price gap mainly reflects different positioning and specifications.

Why a 16:10 screen could be useful—or awkward
Where the wide format helps
- Video and reading: the broader canvas can reduce unused space around landscape video and show more text per line in documents, comics and web pages.
- Photos: image previews and editing controls have more horizontal room.
- Split-screen work: two apps can be placed side by side with less extreme shrinking than on a tall phone.
- Agent supervision: a wider view may make it easier to watch an AI agent move between controls and confirm a step.
Where it may hurt
- One-handed typing: the keyboard can extend farther across the device, especially for users with smaller hands.
- Pocketability: a wide body may feel bulky even if its diagonal measurement resembles a normal phone.
- Android compatibility: apps designed around tall screens may letterbox, stretch, misplace controls or leave large unused areas.
- Portrait use: messaging and scrolling apps may feel less natural when the phone is held vertically.
What DroiClaw 3 is trying to change
From chatbot to task executor
Droi positions DroiClaw 3 as an AI-native system that can coordinate a sequence of actions across applications. Instead of stopping after generating instructions, an agent could, in principle, interpret a request, open the relevant apps, pass information between them and ask for confirmation at sensitive points. The reports describe this as a product direction, not as an independently verified demonstration of reliable completion.

Local and cloud processing
The design reportedly splits work between the phone and cloud services. Local execution can reduce latency and keep some data on the device; cloud processing can provide more capable models for complex tasks. The reports do not specify which tasks stay local, which data leaves the phone, where cloud processing occurs, or how users can force a task to remain offline.

MCP and AppFunctions
DroiClaw 3 is described as using MCP and AppFunctions concepts to connect the agent with tools and app actions. In practical terms, these mechanisms are intended to give the agent structured operations instead of relying only on screen tapping. The quality of that experience will depend on how many apps expose dependable functions and how the system handles apps that do not.
Privacy and security claims are still unverified
Droi describes several safeguards:
- core services written in Rust;
- isolated containers for agent tasks;
- anonymization of information;
- permission controls for access to apps and data; and
- SHA-256 checks intended to verify the integrity of installed skills.
Those are architectural claims, not proof of security. MemeBurn and Gizmochina both note that no independent audit or testing has verified DroiClaw 3’s privacy, isolation or skill-check mechanisms. Buyers should therefore treat the agent as unproven when it can read messages, handle files, use accounts or submit actions on a user’s behalf. Until third-party testing is available, avoid granting broad permissions to financial, health, workplace or password-management apps.

Performance and software risks
The Helio G99 should be adequate for ordinary communication, browsing, video playback and lightweight multitasking, but it is not a new high-end platform. Combined with a 720p LCD, it signals a low-cost design rather than a performance showcase. The processor identification itself comes from leaked footage, and Coolpad has not confirmed every specification.
The larger uncertainty is software compatibility. Android apps commonly assume tall displays, fixed portrait layouts or conventional split-screen behavior. DroiClaw 3 will need robust layout handling and reliable app integrations for the wide format and agent model to feel intentional rather than experimental.
Who should consider it
- Potential fit: China-based buyers who value a broad reading or video display, want to experiment with AI automation and accept unfinished integrations.
- Wait-and-see buyers: anyone who needs dependable banking, enterprise or accessibility workflows, because independent testing and app-compatibility results are not yet available.
- Poor fit: users seeking a compact one-handed phone, a high-refresh display, confirmed international bands or a fully documented camera and battery package.
What to verify before buying
- Confirm the final retail specification, including RAM, storage, battery, charging, cameras and cellular bands.
- Check whether the October China launch actually occurred and whether the CNY 999 price is regular pricing or limited launch pricing.
- Ask whether DroiClaw 3 supports the specific apps you rely on and what permissions each integration requires.
- Review where agent tasks are processed, what information is uploaded and whether cloud use can be disabled.
- Test key apps in both portrait and landscape orientations before moving accounts or sensitive data to the phone.
The Coolpad phone is therefore best understood as a low-cost hardware platform for testing an ambitious software idea. Its value will be determined less by the 16:10 screen or Helio G99 than by whether DroiClaw 3 can perform useful, reversible actions across real apps while earning trust that has not yet been independently established.
