Plan on 25–35 hours for CONTROL Resonant’s main story. Remedy Communications Director Thomas Puha gave that estimate in a PlayStation Blog post. Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov separately put the core experience at around 30 hours and completionist play in the 50-hour ballpark. These are estimates, not guaranteed finish times.

How long is CONTROL Resonant’s main story?

Remedy’s published estimate is 25–35 hours to complete the main story. In a September 15, 2026 PlayStation Blog feature, Remedy Communications Director Thomas Puha wrote that the main story takes “anywhere from 25 to 35 hours,” with additional play for completionists. Read Remedy’s PS5 feature overview on PlayStation Blog.

That range is the clearest planning figure if you mainly want to finish the campaign. Your actual time can vary with how much you explore, how quickly you progress through combat, and how often you retry challenging encounters.

How long does it take with exploration or completionist play?

Mohov told TechRadar that the “core experience” should take around 30 hours, with completionist play in the “50 hours” ballpark. A post-launch Beebom report offers a useful comparison, but describes its own playthrough and estimates rather than a standardized measure:

Play style Time estimate What the estimate represents
Main story 25–35 hours Remedy’s published estimate, provided by Thomas Puha.
Core experience Around 30 hours Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov’s estimate.
Main campaign 27–30 hours Beebom’s reported first playthrough.
Main campaign with mild exploration 30–35 hours Beebom’s category; it does not define a universal amount of side content.
Completionist Around 50 hours Mohov’s approximate estimate.
Completionist 40–50 hours Beebom’s estimate; it does not establish a universal 100% checklist.

TechRadar’s interview with Mohov and Beebom’s post-launch playtime report use approximate figures and may not define completion in the same way. The numbers are best used to set expectations, not as a promise that every activity will fit a precise hour count.

Do you need to play the first Control first?

No. Mohov told TechRadar, “I don’t think you have to play the first Control game to play Resonant,” and said a Control recap appears at the top of Resonant’s main menu. Playing the original may add context to the story, but it is not a prerequisite according to the game’s lead gameplay designer.

What these estimates can—and cannot—tell you

The available figures converge around a roughly 30-hour campaign, but they are not a cross-player average. Remedy’s figure is a developer estimate; Beebom’s numbers reflect one outlet’s reported run. PC Gamer described its own review playthrough as 30+ hours and commented on combat pacing, but that reviewer’s experience is not a general playtime benchmark. PC Gamer’s review.

No cited source establishes a consistent checklist for “completionist” play, so the 40–50-hour and around-50-hour figures should be treated as ballpark guidance rather than a guaranteed 100% completion time.
