Contained Opolis is a quest-driven, space-themed skyblock modpack for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. You begin in a sealed room made from asteroid blocks, solve the opening escape challenge, build technology and power with Oritech, travel through custom space dimensions, and eventually return to the Overworld. This guide explains the current release, installation, early progression, multiplayer choices, and practical server administration.
What is Contained Opolis?
Contained Opolis (A Space Adventure) is a collaborative modpack presented by its project owner as “a space based skyblock style modpack.” Its design combines quests, exploration, technology, and multiplayer rather than treating space as a late-game cosmetic theme. The opening deliberately removes the normal Minecraft starting loop: instead of spawning in a conventional Overworld, you are contained in a small room with only asteroid blocks and must escape before the broader progression becomes available.

The pack’s owner describes the first objective as escaping the “sealed room with only asteroid blocks.” After that gate, the intended route is to head into space, explore several custom dimensions, and find a way back to the Overworld. Oritech is the central technology system, providing both multiblock structures and single-block machines for advanced items and processes. Just Dire Things contributes space suits and Goo recipes, which support survival and progression away from the starting enclosure.
This is not a conventional survival world with an optional space dimension. The contained opening, quest progression, technology infrastructure, and dimension travel are connected. Skipping the quests or rushing to exploration without a stable resource and power base can leave you unable to craft the next required component.

Current version, Minecraft edition, and loader
The latest file shown in the CurseForge files listing is Contained_Opolis-6.3.zip, uploaded September 8, 2026. That file targets Minecraft 1.21.1 and the NeoForge mod loader. A matching Contained_Opolis-6.3_server_pack.zip is listed for server use.
These details are time-sensitive. CurseForge also showed 185,729 total downloads on the page captured with the September 8 update, but download totals and the “latest” file can change. Check the project’s current files immediately before creating an instance or updating a server; do not assume that a newer upload remains compatible with an older world.

What you need before installing
- A Minecraft installation that can run Java modpacks and the 1.21.1 game version.
- A launcher with NeoForge support. GDLauncher documents a direct add-on workflow; other launchers can use the pack’s CurseForge project files.
- Enough disk space for the modpack, generated dimensions, logs, backups, and any server world. The project materials do not state a fixed storage or memory requirement, so leave practical headroom rather than treating an unlisted minimum as a guarantee.
- The same pack release, Minecraft version, and NeoForge loader on every multiplayer client.
Do not mix a 1.21.1 client with a different Minecraft version simply because the launcher offers it. A loader mismatch can prevent the instance from starting; a pack mismatch can allow a connection attempt but fail during registry or mod synchronization.
How to install Contained Opolis with GDLauncher
GDLauncher’s documented workflow uses the pack’s quick-install identifier. The following sequence creates a new instance rather than modifying an existing profile, which helps keep unrelated mods and configuration files from contaminating the pack.
- Open GDLauncher and choose Create a new instance.
- Select Minecraft 1.21.1 when the version selector appears.
- Choose NeoForge as the loader and select the NeoForge option offered for that Minecraft version.
- Open the instance’s Addons tab.
- Choose Add Addons.
- Paste the quick-install ID
#opolis-containedinto the add-on search or import field. - Select Contained Opolis from the result, confirm the installation, and allow GDLauncher to download the pack files.
- Start the instance once with no extra mods added. Wait for the title screen, then close the game so the launcher and configuration files finish generating.
The first launch can take longer than a lightly modded profile because the loader must discover and initialize many mods. If the launcher reports a missing dependency, record the exact mod name and version instead of downloading a random replacement. The pack’s files should supply the compatible dependency; adding a different build can create a second, harder-to-diagnose mismatch.

Installing with another launcher
Launchers that import CurseForge modpacks generally use the project’s current pack file. Create a new profile, select Minecraft 1.21.1, select NeoForge, and import the current Contained Opolis file from the project page. Keep the profile isolated until it reaches the main menu. If the launcher asks you to choose between multiple loader builds, use the build associated with the current pack metadata rather than the newest NeoForge build by date.

First launch: escaping the sealed asteroid room
The sealed room is an intentional progression gate, not a broken spawn or an indication that your world failed to generate. The opening inventory and surroundings are deliberately constrained to asteroid blocks. Treat the first quest objective as a puzzle and resource-management exercise: inspect every available block, read the quest text, and craft only what advances the escape path.
Use the quest book as the opening checklist
Follow the quest that explains the containment objective before experimenting with unrelated recipes. Quest rewards and unlocks are part of the pack’s progression logic, so a recipe that appears unavailable may be gated behind an earlier task. If a quest specifies a particular machine, item, or action, use that wording as the authoritative next step for the installed release.
Protect the starting resources
- Do not convert every asteroid block into a decorative build before you know which blocks are needed for crafting or the escape route.
- Keep a reserve of basic materials for tools, power components, and the first machine chain.
- Place any early machines where they can be expanded; replacing a cramped layout after multiblocks become available costs more resources than planning a small working area.
- Record unusual blocks or recipes that appear in the quest interface. A later dimension or machine may depend on an item that is not obvious from vanilla recipe browsing.
The exact escape recipe and room layout can change with pack updates, and the available project information does not publish a fixed block-by-block solution. That makes the in-game quest instructions more reliable than a static walkthrough written for an earlier release.

Progression after the escape
Once outside the contained rooms, progression shifts from solving the opening gate to building a sustainable industrial base. The natural organizing spine is the quest structure: each branch introduces the resources, machines, power, protective equipment, or travel conditions needed by the next branch.
1. Establish resource flow
Secure repeatable sources of the materials used by your current quest branch before spending them on optional blocks. In a skyblock-style environment, a resource that is common in ordinary terrain may be limited or obtainable only through a machine, a conversion recipe, or a dimension. Check the quest rewards and recipe views before committing scarce materials to decorative projects.
2. Build power before scaling machines
Oritech machines and multiblocks are the pack’s main route to advanced processing. A single machine that works during a short test is not necessarily enough for a sustained production chain. Plan power generation, storage, and distribution together, then add processing capacity as the quests demand it. The published materials do not provide a universal best generator, production rate, or energy-per-item figure, so any claim that one setup is definitively fastest would be speculation.
3. Move from single-block machines to multiblocks
Oritech includes both compact single-block machines and larger multiblock structures. Single-block machines are useful while you are validating a recipe or filling a short quest requirement; multiblocks become relevant when a recipe, throughput target, or quest explicitly calls for them. Leave clear space around the first factory floor and keep input, output, power, and maintenance access understandable. The pack does not publish a complete throughput chart, so choose the structure required by the current quest and measure your own bottleneck rather than assuming a community rule of thumb.

4. Prepare for space travel
Space exploration is the next major phase after the escape and initial technology work. Just Dire Things supplies space suits and Goo recipes used in this phase. Follow the relevant quest branch to determine which suit components, Goo items, and machines are required for your installed version. Travel should be treated as an expedition: finish the required crafting chain, carry replacement supplies, and return valuable items before attempting a deeper dimension.

5. Explore custom dimensions and return to the Overworld
The pack’s stated route is to explore different custom space dimensions and get back to the Overworld. Each dimension should be approached as a progression destination rather than a sightseeing detour. Read the quest requirements before entering, identify the items needed to leave, and keep a safe return plan. The project description does not enumerate every dimension, coordinate, or completion condition, so use the in-game quest entries for the current release instead of relying on a list made for an older file.
Choosing a progression strategy
There is no published benchmark comparing every generator, machine layout, or route through the quest tree. You can still make a sound choice by evaluating each option against the four factors that control advancement: resource efficiency, power generation, machine throughput, and exploration unlock speed.
| Decision factor | What to ask | Practical choice |
|---|---|---|
| Resource efficiency | How many scarce inputs does this route consume per quest objective? | Prefer the route that preserves limited materials for gated recipes, unless the quest rewards replace them. |
| Power generation | Can the generator support the next machine or multiblock without constant outages? | Build capacity ahead of the immediate requirement and provide storage where the pack allows it. |
| Machine throughput | Is processing, power, or input supply the actual bottleneck? | Upgrade the constrained stage first; adding parallel machines does little if the generator or input farm is slower. |
| Exploration unlock speed | Which quest branch unlocks suits, Goo, or travel prerequisites sooner? | Advance the branch that opens the next dimension while keeping enough infrastructure to replace expedition supplies. |
Use this framework to compare your own available recipes and quest rewards. The pack’s owner and project listing do not state a universally optimal route, completion time, difficulty rating, or performance benchmark.
Multiplayer options
Join the official public server
The project page says an official public server is accessible through Minecraft’s multiplayer menu. Open Multiplayer, look for the server entry supplied by the pack or project, and read its current description before connecting. Public-server addresses, rules, uptime, and world state can change; if the entry is absent, consult the current project page rather than entering an address copied from an old post.
Run a private Contained Opolis server
Players who want control over access, backups, and configuration can use the matching server archive, currently listed as Contained_Opolis-6.3_server_pack.zip. A private Contained Opolis server hosting plan from a compatible provider can reduce the work of keeping a machine online, but provider availability, regions, pricing, and supported versions are time-sensitive and should be checked at purchase. The project information specifically identifies Bisect Hosting as an option for obtaining a private server; verify its current Contained Opolis support before ordering.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Self-hosting with the server pack
The server archive is preferable to assembling a server by copying client mods one at a time because it is intended to carry the server-side files for the release. The exact startup command, Java requirement, memory recommendation, port, and configuration values are not stated in the project information, so use the instructions included in the current archive and the launcher or NeoForge guidance for that release rather than copying a command from another Minecraft version.
- Download the server archive whose release number matches every client, such as
Contained_Opolis-6.3_server_pack.zipfor the 6.3 listing. - Extract it into a new, dedicated server directory. Do not mix it with another modpack’s world, mods, or configuration folder.
- Read the included setup and license files, install the Java version required by the archive, and run the supplied server start procedure once to generate configuration files.
- Accept the Minecraft server EULA only if you agree to its terms, then start the server again and wait for the console to report that it is ready.
- Connect locally first. Confirm that the client has the identical Minecraft version, NeoForge loader, pack release, and mod list before inviting other players.
- Set a whitelist, operator permissions, backup schedule, and restart policy before opening the server to the internet.
Back up the world and configuration before changing the pack version. A downgrade or unplanned mod removal can make a world unloadable, especially after players visit custom dimensions.

The launcher crashes before the title screen
- Confirm that the profile uses Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge, not Fabric, Forge, or a different Minecraft release.
- Remove extra mods, shader loaders, and client tweaks added after installation; first reproduce the problem with an unmodified pack.
- Read the crash report for the first missing dependency or version conflict. The final line often describes the symptom, while the earliest dependency error identifies the cause.
The pack starts but recipes or quests are missing
This usually indicates an incomplete import or a configuration mismatch. Reinstall into a clean instance from the complete current pack file. Do not copy only the mods folder from another profile; quests, scripts, and configuration can be outside it.
A friend cannot join
- Compare the exact pack release, Minecraft version, NeoForge loader, and client-side mod list on both machines.
- Check that the server is running the matching server pack rather than a vanilla or differently updated installation.
- Verify the server address, firewall, whitelist, and hosting status. An authentication or network error is different from a registry mismatch, so keep the full disconnect message.
A dimension trip appears to lose progress
Stop and restore the most recent backup before making further changes. Check whether the server and clients were updated between visits, and confirm that the custom-dimension files remain in the same world directory. Do not delete dimension folders as a first troubleshooting step; that can permanently remove player builds and stored items.
Updating safely
Before updating, note the current pack release, copy the entire world and server configuration, and record any manual changes. Install the new client profile separately when possible, then test a copy of the world. Only replace the live instance after the title screen, quest book, machines, and dimensions load correctly. Because the latest file and download count can change, recheck the CurseForge listing immediately before an update and ensure all players receive the same release.
Who should play Contained Opolis?
This pack fits players who enjoy a constrained opening, quest-led objectives, factory planning, and exploration that must be earned through technology. It is a good match for a small group that wants a shared progression path and enough infrastructure work to make each new dimension feel consequential. Players looking for an immediate vanilla survival start, a published speedrun route, or fixed performance guarantees should set expectations carefully: the available project information does not provide completion times, independent reviews, difficulty scores, or hardware benchmarks.
