You can connect Vapi to Currai without writing an integration route, using Currai’s built-in Vapi connector. Create a connector in Currai, save its one-time Bearer secret and webhook URL, add that secret as a custom Bearer Token credential in Vapi, assign the URL to the assistant’s Webhook Server, enable end-of-call-report, publish the assistant, and complete a real call. Currai then imports the finished call for conversation analysis. This is a post-call connection, not a live-call relay.

What this connection actually does

The built-in connector passes a completed Vapi call to Currai after Vapi emits an end-of-call-report. Currai reconstructs that report as a session, normalizes the conversation into call and turn events, and runs its existing User Stories, intent, violation, alert, and analytics workflows. The setup is performed in the two dashboards; you do not need a Vapi private API key, a Currai SDK, or an application capture endpoint for this route.

Currai’s connector documentation describes the workflow at Vapi | Currai, and its engineering walkthrough, dated Aug. 30, 2026, provides the same dashboard sequence at How to connect Vapi to Currai using Currai Connectors.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What it includes

  • Completed Vapi conversations imported into Currai as analyzable sessions.
  • Normalized call-boundary and conversation-turn events for Currai’s reporting pipeline.
  • Currai views for readable conversations, intents, violations, alerts, User Stories, and analytics.

What it does not include

  • Live relaying of assistant requests, tool calls, transfers, or call-control commands.
  • Backfilling of Vapi calls that happened before the connector was configured.
  • A second webhook destination running automatically in parallel with an existing Vapi destination.

If you need to control a call while it is in progress, or to archive historical calls, this connector is not the mechanism for that requirement.

Prerequisites and a safe setup plan

Have these items ready before opening either dashboard:

  • A Currai workspace in which you have owner or administrator access.
  • A Vapi assistant that can place and finish a call.
  • Permission in Vapi to edit the assistant’s server URL, webhook event selection, and credentials.
  • A secure place to save the Currai Bearer secret immediately when it is shown.

The connection follows this sequence:

  1. Create the Vapi connector in Currai.
  2. Copy Currai’s generated endpoint and one-time secret.
  3. Create a custom Bearer Token credential in Vapi.
  4. Attach the endpoint and credential to the assistant’s Webhook Server.
  5. Enable only the completed-call event where event selection is available.
  6. Save and publish the assistant.
  7. Complete a real call and verify the imported conversation in Currai.

Step 1: Create the connector in Currai

  1. Sign in to Currai and open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Select Connect Vapi.
  3. Complete the connector creation flow.
  4. Copy the generated webhook endpoint.
  5. Copy the generated Bearer secret and store it in your password manager or another protected secret store.

Currai displays the original secret only once. According to its connector documentation, Currai stores a hash of the secret and cannot reveal the original value again. If you lose it, rotate the connector secret, then replace the credential in Vapi. Rotation invalidates the previous secret immediately, so any Vapi credential still using the old value will return an authorization error. See the exact connector fields in Currai’s Vapi connector instructions.

Keep the endpoint and secret together during setup, but do not paste the secret into a URL, a public ticket, browser-side code, or a screen recording. The endpoint is the destination; the Bearer value is the authentication credential.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step 2: Add Currai’s Bearer credential in Vapi

  1. In Vapi, open Integrations → Server Configuration.
  2. Create a new custom credential with the type Bearer Token.
  3. Paste the Currai secret into the token-value field.
  4. Give the credential a descriptive name, such as Currai completed-call import, so it is easy to identify later.
  5. Save the credential.

Enter only the secret itself. Do not manually type the word Bearer before the value. Vapi adds the Authorization: Bearer ... prefix when it sends the request. Manually adding the prefix can produce a malformed authorization header and a 401 response. The credential procedure is documented in Currai’s Vapi connector guide.

Step 3: Point the assistant’s Webhook Server at Currai

  1. Open the Vapi assistant that will make the test call.
  2. Go to Advanced → Webhook Server.
  3. Paste the complete Currai-generated endpoint into Server URL.
  4. Select the custom Bearer Token credential you created in the previous step.
  5. If the dashboard exposes a serverMessages event selector, select only end-of-call-report for this connector.
  6. Save the assistant configuration.
  7. Publish the assistant so the endpoint and event settings are active on the version that handles calls.

The endpoint must be copied in full, including its path. Do not substitute a Currai home-page URL or reconstruct the path by hand. The connector expects the completed-call payload at the generated endpoint.

Check for an existing Vapi destination before saving

Vapi sends an event to one applicable Server URL according to its URL-priority rules. An assistant-level URL can therefore replace, or be replaced by, a destination configured at another applicable level, such as a phone-number or account-level URL. If another integration already receives Vapi webhooks, replacing that destination can interrupt it.

Record the current URL and event behavior before changing anything. If both systems must receive the final report, retain the existing destination and have that service forward the unchanged end-of-call-report to Currai with Currai’s Bearer authorization. The built-in connector does not create fan-out behavior by itself. Currai discusses this constraint in its connector instructions and the Aug. 30, 2026 engineering article at currai.app/blog/how-to-integrate-currai-with-vapi.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step 4: Verify the connection with a real call

A webhook test can confirm that an endpoint accepts an authenticated request, but it cannot prove that Vapi produced the expected call artifact or that Currai normalized the transcript and ran analysis. Use a completed call as the end-to-end test.

  1. Confirm that the assistant configuration is published.
  2. Place a call that uses that published assistant.
  3. Conduct enough conversation to create a normal transcript, then end the call normally.
  4. In Currai, return to Settings → Connectors.
  5. Check that the connector status changes from Waiting for first call to Receiving data.
  6. Open Analyse → User Stories and look for the imported, readable conversation.
  7. Open Observe → Events to inspect the imported call-boundary and turn events.
  8. If your workspace uses them, inspect the resulting intents and violations.

Do not treat a successful dashboard webhook test as the final verification. Currai’s procedure specifically recommends checking a completed call and the resulting normalized conversation.

How the imported data is represented

Currai treats a completed provider conversation as a session. It creates one call-boundary event and then creates an event for each normalized conversation turn. This allows the same User Story, intent, violation, alert, and analytics pipeline to process the Vapi conversation alongside other supported sources.

The connector expects the final Vapi report to contain artifact.messages. A report that contains only a plain transcript may authenticate successfully yet produce no conversation turns in Currai. If the session appears without turns, inspect the payload generated by Vapi and verify that the artifact.messages collection is present before troubleshooting the Currai workspace.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Event allowance and operational limits

Connector imports consume Currai’s normal workspace event allowance. Currai’s connector overview describes the metering as one event for the call boundary plus one event for each normalized conversation turn; its publication date is not stated in that overview. A long conversation therefore consumes more events than a short one. This figure describes product usage accounting, not a performance or quality benchmark.

For example, a call normalized into 12 turns uses 13 events under that model: one boundary event and 12 turn events. This arithmetic is useful for planning, but the actual number of turns depends on the completed report. When the workspace allowance is exhausted, delivery can fail with an event_limit_exceeded error. Check the workspace allowance before using a high-volume assistant, and monitor the event view after the first few calls so you can distinguish quota failures from authentication or payload problems. The event model is described in Currai’s Connectors overview.

Understanding URL priority and coexistence

The important Vapi behavior is not a particular dashboard label but the one-destination rule: Vapi selects one applicable Server URL according to its URL-priority rules. A URL configured for an assistant, phone number, or account can affect which destination receives the report. Before editing, write down the effective destination, the events it receives, and which workflow depends on it.

If Currai is the only consumer, assigning its endpoint to the applicable assistant is straightforward. If an existing endpoint collects logs, triggers a CRM update, or performs other post-call work, do not assume Vapi will send a duplicate request merely because both configurations exist. Keep the existing receiving service and add forwarding there, preserving the completed report and adding Currai’s Bearer authorization on the forwarded request. Test both consumers after the change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Design a useful first test

Make the first call deliberately boring and observable. Use the exact published assistant you edited, speak several user and assistant turns, and end the call normally so Vapi can emit its final report. A call that ends abruptly, uses a different assistant, or never generates a normal artifact can make a correct connector appear broken.

After the call, check the connector status first, then the session, then the event list. This order separates transport problems from payload problems: no status change points to URL, credential, publication, or event-selection issues; a session without turns points toward the report structure; visible turns with missing analysis points toward the workspace’s configured analysis features. Repeat with a second short call only after recording what the first test showed.

Security and data-handling considerations

The Bearer secret grants access to the connector endpoint, so treat it like a password. Store it in a secret manager, restrict who can view or rotate it, and avoid committing it to source control. If exposure is suspected, rotate it in Currai and update Vapi; the old value stops working when rotation occurs.

Currai states that connector secrets are stored in non-readable form and that the connector does not retain recording URLs or raw phone numbers. Those are Currai’s published product statements, not an independent security audit. Review your organization’s privacy, retention, and call-recording requirements separately before enabling production traffic. Limit dashboard access to people who need to inspect conversations, and remove obsolete Vapi credentials after a rotation so operators do not accidentally select an invalid token.

Troubleshooting by symptom

Symptom Likely cause What to do
401 Unauthorized Vapi is sending an old, malformed, or incorrectly selected credential. In Vapi, confirm that the assistant selects the custom Bearer Token credential and that its value is exactly the current Currai secret. Do not prepend Bearer. If you rotated the Currai secret, update the Vapi credential immediately because the previous value is invalid.
Currai remains “Waiting for first call” The assistant was not published, the call used a different assistant, or end-of-call-report is not enabled. Republish the intended assistant, complete a new call with that published version, and verify the event selection in Advanced → Webhook Server.
Call appears but has no conversation turns The final Vapi report may lack artifact.messages. Inspect the completed report and confirm that artifact.messages contains the normalized message records. A plain transcript alone is not sufficient for the connector’s turn reconstruction.
Another webhook stopped receiving events The Currai URL replaced the only applicable Vapi Server URL. Restore the previous destination where required. Keep that service as the receiving endpoint and forward the unchanged completed-call report to Currai with Currai Bearer authorization.
event_limit_exceeded The Currai workspace allowance has been consumed. Review event usage in the workspace, account for one boundary event plus one event per normalized turn, and resolve the allowance issue before retesting.
Webhook works on a laptop but not from Vapi The endpoint is on localhost or another non-public address. Expose the local service through an HTTPS tunnel with a publicly reachable URL. Vapi’s CLI forwarder is not itself a tunnel and does not provide a public URL. See Vapi’s local webhook testing guidance.

Built-in connector versus custom browser-call capture

Currai documents a second route for teams that own a Vapi browser-call application and need server-side capture details. That code-based example requires an application server route and server-side credential handling; it is not required for the ordinary dashboard connector.

Route Best fit Trade-off
Built-in Vapi connector A team that wants completed Vapi calls imported into Currai without adding capture code to the live application. Post-call only; uses the applicable Vapi Server URL and Currai workspace event allowance; no historical backfill.
Custom browser-call capture A team instrumenting an application that owns a Vapi browser call and needs server-side capture details. Requires application and server implementation plus credential handling.

For a standard Vapi assistant, choose the built-in connector. Consider the custom route only when your browser application’s own lifecycle or server-side capture requirements cannot be met by a completed-call webhook. The documented example is at Currai’s Integrate Currai with Vapi page.

Production checklist

  • Currai workspace access is owner or administrator level.
  • The connector endpoint was copied exactly from Settings → Connectors.
  • The one-time Bearer secret was saved securely.
  • Vapi contains a custom Bearer Token credential with only the Currai secret as its value.
  • The assistant’s Advanced → Webhook Server uses the Currai endpoint and that credential.
  • end-of-call-report is enabled where Vapi offers event selection.
  • Any existing assistant-, phone-number-, or account-level destination was documented and preserved when necessary.
  • The assistant was saved and published after the webhook changes.
  • A real call changed Currai from Waiting for first call to Receiving data.
  • The imported session contains readable conversation turns in Analyse → User Stories.
  • Observe → Events shows the boundary event and normalized turn events.
  • The workspace event allowance is sufficient for the expected call volume and conversation length.

Practical verdict

For dashboard-only setup, Currai’s built-in Vapi connector is the shortest path: generate the endpoint and one-time secret in Currai, add the secret as a Vapi Bearer credential, assign the endpoint to the published assistant, and verify with a finished call. Plan around its boundaries—post-call processing, one applicable Vapi destination, no historical import, and event-based Currai usage. If those boundaries fit your workflow, no integration code is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Vapi private API key for the Currai connector?

No. The documented dashboard connector uses Currai’s generated endpoint and Bearer secret in a Vapi custom Bearer Token credential. A Vapi private API key and Currai SDK are not required for this workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can Currai receive a call while it is still in progress?

No. The connector processes the completed end-of-call-report. It is not a live relay for tool calls, transfers, assistant requests, or call-control commands.

What happens if I lose the Currai secret?

Currai shows the original secret once and stores only its hash. Rotate the connector secret, then replace the Vapi credential. Rotation immediately invalidates the old value.

Why does Currai show a session but no turns?

The final Vapi report may contain only a plain transcript. Currai’s connector guide says to verify that the report includes artifact.messages, which it uses to reconstruct normalized conversation turns.

Will configuring Currai preserve my existing Vapi webhook?

Not automatically. Vapi selects one applicable Server URL according to its priority rules. If another service already receives reports, keep it as the receiving endpoint and forward the unchanged completed report to Currai with Currai authorization.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I import Vapi calls made before setup?

No. The built-in connector does not backfill historical calls; only completed calls delivered after the connector is configured and published are part of this workflow.

How many Currai events does a call consume?

Currai describes one event for the call boundary plus one event for each normalized conversation turn. A longer conversation therefore uses more events and can encounter event_limit_exceeded when the workspace allowance is exhausted.

Can Vapi post to a localhost endpoint during testing?

No. Vapi needs a publicly reachable URL. Use an HTTPS tunnel for a local service; Vapi’s CLI forwarder alone does not create a public tunnel.

The Bottom Line

Use Currai’s built-in connector when completed-call analysis is enough: create the connector, save its one-time secret, configure Vapi’s Bearer credential and Webhook Server, publish, and verify with a real call. Protect existing webhook destinations, account for event usage, and remember that this route does not provide live control or historical backfill.
