The XPPen Artist 16 3rd (model CD161FH) is a 15.4-inch, Full HD pen display for drawing on a connected computer or compatible device. Its advertised stylus specifications and included foldable stand make it a well-equipped option to consider for getting started, but it is not a standalone drawing computer: your host device must support the required connection.
What the Artist 16 3rd is—and what it is not
The Artist 16 3rd is both a drawing surface and a display. Connect it to a compatible host, and you can draw on its screen; it can also serve as a secondary display. It does not run drawing software independently, so your computer or other supported device remains essential. XPPen’s product page describes the model and its operating requirements: XPPen Artist 16 3rd specifications.
How good is the screen for drawing?
The 15.4-inch screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio, 1920 × 1080 resolution, and 60 Hz refresh rate. XPPen lists typical brightness at 270 nits, a 178-degree viewing angle, full lamination, and 16.7 million display colors. Full HD gives you a workable canvas, though it is less detailed than a higher-resolution display of the same size.

That is one reviewer’s subjective impression, not an independent panel test. His review describes it this way: “To be honest, 1080p on a 15.4-inch screen isn’t pixel-density royalty, but in actual use it’s plenty sharp – at a normal working distance, I can barely spot individual pixels, and line edges stay crisp.” Read Alex Su’s Gizmochina review.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Color claims need context
XPPen advertises coverage of 99% sRGB, 98% Adobe RGB, and 97% Display P3, plus Delta E below 1.5. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independently measured results established here. They may be useful when comparing stated specifications, but they do not substitute for independent testing if color-critical work is your priority.
What to expect from the stylus and controls
The included X4 Smart Chip Stylus uses EMR, according to XPPen. The company lists 16,384 pressure levels, 60-degree tilt support, a 2 g initial activation force, ±0.2 mm center accuracy, and 5080 LPI resolution. These are specifications, not a guarantee that every drawing app or host will interpret pen input identically.

Check that your preferred software and workflow make good use of the controls before treating them as a deciding advantage.

XPPen lists support for Windows 7 or later, macOS 10.13 or later, Android 10.0 or later, ChromeOS 88 or later, Linux, and Windows ARM. Android use specifically requires USB 3.1 DP1.2, and the host must support the necessary video connection. A USB-C connector by itself does not establish that a device can send video to the display, so verify the host’s video-output capability and the connection requirements before purchasing.

Because the Artist 16 3rd relies on a connected host, it is best suited to someone who already has a compatible computer or device and wants a screen-based drawing workflow. It is not the right fit if you need a self-contained tablet that runs apps without a host.
What comes in the box?

Who should consider the XPPen Artist 16 3rd?
- Consider it if you want a 15.4-inch drawing display, already own a compatible host, and value the included stand and cable options.
- Look elsewhere if you need a standalone drawing computer, require a higher-resolution canvas, or need independently verified color performance before committing to color-critical work.
- Verify first if you plan to connect by USB-C or use Android: confirm the host supports video output and, for Android, the specified USB 3.1 DP1.2 requirement.
XPPen’s listed specifications provide a clear picture of the hardware, while the available reviewer impressions are individual accounts rather than a substitute for lab testing. The strongest buying decision comes down to host compatibility, whether Full HD suits your working distance and canvas needs, and how much weight you place on manufacturer color claims.
