Schlage Connect can work with Alexa when it is paired with a compatible smart-home hub; an Echo speaker by itself is not the bridge. First identify whether your lock is Z-Wave or Zigbee, then confirm that the hub supports that exact version. With the connection in place, Alexa can lock the door and report its status. Voice unlocking is optional, requires a spoken four-digit PIN, and Schlage says it is currently available only in the United States.
What you need before connecting Schlage Connect to Alexa
- A Schlage Connect lock. Do not confuse Connect with Schlage Encode: Schlage says Encode has built-in Wi-Fi and does not need an additional hub, while Connect requires a compatible hub. See Schlage’s Connect information and Encode information.
- A hub compatible with the lock’s radio. Z-Wave and Zigbee Connect models do not necessarily use the same hubs.
- An Alexa setup that can access the hub-connected lock. Link or expose the lock through the hub’s current Alexa integration. The precise app steps vary by hub.
Schlage’s current Alexa guidance names Aeotec, Homey Pro, and Ring Alarm base station for Schlage Connect Z-Wave Plus. Compatibility is manufacturer’s guidance, not a guarantee for every hub model or lock revision, so verify the exact products before buying.
Identify whether your lock is Z-Wave or Zigbee
Schlage’s FAQ says the lock’s circuit board is a visual clue: green indicates Z-Wave and blue indicates Zigbee. Check the model number as well. Schlage says model BE468 does not include the built-in alarm, whereas BE469 does; that distinction does not itself identify which Alexa hub to choose. If you cannot inspect the circuit board, check the product documentation or contact Schlage with the exact model number rather than guessing. Select the hub only after confirming the radio type.

Choose a compatible hub
Z-Wave Plus
Schlage’s current Alexa guide lists an Aeotec hub, Homey Pro hub, or Ring Alarm base station for Schlage Connect Z-Wave Plus. Check the hub maker’s current compatibility information for your exact lock model and Alexa support before purchase. The list is specific to the Z-Wave Plus guidance; do not assume it applies to a Zigbee lock.
Zigbee
An older Schlage Connect Alexa FAQ named Samsung SmartThings, Key by Amazon App with Cloud Cam, and Amazon Echo Plus as Zigbee hub examples. Because that information is older and platform support can change, treat it as historical guidance, not a current buying list. Confirm that a candidate hub supports your precise Zigbee lock and can expose it to Alexa. Schlage’s older page is available at its Connect FAQ.

Why older hub recommendations may differ
Schlage’s older Z-Wave FAQ named SmartThings, Wink, Ring Alarm, Blue by ADT, and Honeywell Home. Its newer Alexa guidance for Z-Wave Plus names Aeotec, Homey Pro, and Ring Alarm base station. These lists refer to guidance from different periods; use current manufacturer compatibility information for the lock and hub you intend to use rather than treating every historically named platform as supported today.
Pair the lock with the hub, then make it available to Alexa
- Confirm the lock and radio. Verify that it is Schlage Connect and identify whether it is Z-Wave or Zigbee.
- Confirm hub compatibility. Match the hub to that radio and exact lock model. For Z-Wave Plus, consult Schlage’s current Alexa compatibility guide and the hub maker’s current instructions.
- Enroll the lock on the hub. Follow the hub maker’s enrollment procedure. Schlage’s official installation and user guide describes enrolling the lock on a Z-Wave network. It notes that remote control depends on network inclusion and that functionality is limited when the lock is included with a non-secure controller.
- Connect the hub to Alexa. Use the hub maker’s current Alexa integration instructions to link or expose the enrolled lock. Menus and steps vary by hub, so follow the labels shown in that hub’s app.
- Test basic control first. Try locking the door and asking Alexa for its status before deciding whether to enable voice unlocking.
Schlage describes Connect as battery-operated and not requiring hardwiring. Installation instructions and manuals are available from Schlage’s interactive manuals page.

What Alexa can do with the connected lock
Schlage describes Alexa support for locking the door and checking whether it is locked or unlocked. For example, Schlage gives commands such as “Alexa, lock the front door” and “Alexa, is the side door unlocked?” The device name and exact response depend on how the lock is named and exposed through your hub and Alexa setup. Alexa voice unlocking is disabled by default. To use it, enable the feature in Alexa’s lock settings, complete the app’s authentication, and set a four-digit PIN that must be spoken to unlock the door. Schlage says three incorrect PIN attempts disable voice unlocking; you can re-enable it in the app. Schlage also says voice unlocking is currently available only in the United States. App labels, security prompts, and regional availability can change, so check the current Alexa settings and Schlage guidance.

Locking and status checks do not require enabling voice unlocking. If you prefer not to speak a PIN or the feature is unavailable in your region, leave it disabled and use Alexa only for the supported locking and status functions.

Quick checks if setup does not work
- Alexa cannot find or control the lock: verify that the lock is enrolled with the hub and that the hub has exposed it to Alexa.
- The hub does not pair with the lock: recheck whether the lock is Z-Wave or Zigbee and whether the hub supports that exact radio version and model.
- Remote control is limited: Schlage notes that Z-Wave functionality can be limited when the lock is included with a non-secure controller. Follow the hub’s secure inclusion instructions and Schlage’s manual.
- Voice unlocking is unavailable: it is off by default, requires Alexa app setup and a spoken four-digit PIN, and Schlage identifies current availability as United States only.
